To the older NSers who have actually done the ski bum deal, how did you make the finances work out? How much do you pay for rent? What was your monthly income and what was your monthly burn rate?

depends on where you are i would say about 700 800 a month with rent at the most but you could do alot better than that .

In my 20's I lived in a snow cave that I carved our of the snow shed off the roof of one of the old lodges at Stevens Pass. Luxurious? hell no. Warm and dry, tho. Lasted 2 months and showered in the employees change room since I was working 2 shifts a week in the rental shop for eats and a seasons ticket. I doubt you could do that anymore. In my 30's i took one winter and worked as a programmer for cash in switzerland and skied 80% of the day times for four months. lived in my bosses house in the basement for free. Cash was king. When I was 47, I took a winter off and lived in Switzerland agaikn, this tkime on about $1k a month and lived in small one room apt in a large lodge. I paid $500 a month for rent, and waited tables 4x a week for food.

30$ maximum for a week of food, and the rent is discutable depending what you plan to do and what condition you are ready to live in... the thing that would cost you the most is probably lift ticket... they are a bitch!

Never done it before.... Going to give it a try in Revelstoke this year. I'm hoping to spend between $500-600 on rent a month and buy a pass for $650. I'm working full-time all summer and hope to have about 8k saved for the move. Hope it works.

i was living with some friends and working at a ski mountain so my pass was paid for and working 40 hours a week at the resort paid for all the essentals rent, food, beer, the occasional power bill. i did work two jobs most of the year though to pay for new skis and boots.

That's funny. Didn't intend to come in here as a hip old man, just looking for good ski intel and the other forums on skiing are full of bitchy old men arguing about George W and gay marriage. I got no time for that crap.

i saved up money in my 4 years at college so that when i got out i didnt have to work i could just ski...rented a place for the season and had the time of my life!

my first ski bum year will be this next one. except im going to college at the same time. but skiing will be up there. prolly gonna be spendin 500 a month on rent prolly a bit more for shit like groceries.
