SKI BUM FUTURE

after college i plan to bum in on my skis for a minute, what state or area is welcoming to bums and has a good ski culture, breck sucks so don't even go there.
 
I think Vermont would be sick but you would have to go north by like Stowe and Jay Peak, Killington gets destroyed by tourists. Have only been to Breck once but curious as to what sucks about it?

Never really run into Gaper problems at Jay other than at the lifts occasionally, and runs between lifts. RFID keeps the lines moving, and terrain variety keeps plenty of fresh snow untracked
 
I'm enlisting in the Marines for 4 years, going to save up as much money as I can while I don't have many expenses (not joining just for money), then I am going to be the master ski bum.

I'm planning on just road tripping it out west for several months at as many resorts as possible, maybe chase powder.

I'm guessing you aren't an English major?
 
Wanting to do the same after college, however how will potential employers look at holes in your resume? By holes, I mean working ski bum jobs not related to your field of study.

Some like it, if you explain yourself saying that you wanted to live your dream before "Growing up" they'll take it as you have drive. My father does the hiring for the company he works for and says he likes to see that.
 
Sun valley is expensive so unless you got dough don't come but its fun, great pitch, best snow making in northern America, and no lift lines

Yeah, curious as well? Why is Breck getting called out? Summit County in general is tough to really bum it due to how expensive it is though.

Don't be that guy who lives like a king the day after the 1st and the 15th, then is broke as fuck the rest of the month. I knew wayyyyyy too many of those.

I saved about 500 a month living in the bricks and eating at the chow hall on Cpl pay. It's very possible to save money, espaecially with combat deployments. You may not get that opportunity though.

If you end up at Lejeune, it's really not all that bad if you have a car and like the outdoors. Croatan National Forest is pretty close and I loved just going out there for the day.
 
I'm either gonna open a hostel near a mountain or work at a hospital near one to fund my bumming future.

I wouldn't worry about it. Tons of people take a year off after college. Some travel, some do other things, but getting back in should be no problem. I know plenty of people who did the ski bum thing for a year and did not have an issue.
 
Anyone have any experience working at one of the hotels near Alta like the Peruvian or Goldminer's Daughter?

Thinking that might be a good plan since you get housing, some food, a job, and closest access to a hill (unless you are car bumming it)
