Ski bum food and nutrition

i think you are my hero.

but yea pbj, CANNED veggies cuz u dont hav to worry bout em going bad, pasta always necessity- DUH its so cheap, bread, bread, bread lots of bread and lunchmeat for the bread. only go chicken or beef if its on sale.

Peanut butter is key.

Pasta is very reasonable too.

Frozen veggies are a decent price as well.

I work at trader joes. I don't pay for food while i'm at work, and get a discount on stuff to eat away from work, and they don't care if I'm a dirtbag!

Now that I think about it. I could live for a week off of about $20. (not including beer)

for the last year or so ive pretty much been on a strick carb only diet (rice, pasta, bagels, and cheese quesidillas)...for seasoning on the rice and pasta just use butter and (fresh ground) black pepper...every now and then you kick it up a notch with salad dressing on he pasta...the dressing can also double then when you buy a on sale bag of lettuce at the grocery store and you can eat some fresh veggies. to go along with the rice and toritllas you can also buy cans of veggies or beans(about 60-70 centst a piece) combine that with the rice and roll it up in a tortilla and you have yourself a tasty burrito.....then cholula is a mandatory item of course...shits pretty cheap that way and leaves room for spending on other things

brown rice cooked in veggie stock (stock cubes are hell cheap) and chuck in some frozen peas at the last minute. Pretty cheap and tasty . Mix it up adding whatever veggies you have lying around or whatevers cheap.

Make sure your cupboard is stocked with the usual Rice, Pasta, Baked Beans, Tinned Kidney beans (chilli, any kind of mexican shit), Tinned tomatoes are extremely useful and so cheap. Frozen veggies usually taste better than tinned eg; peas, carrots, broccoli (sp?). You gotta have the soy sauce too and tinned tuna if you like that shit.

As long as your not buying a shitload of meat. its pretty easy even in the most expensive resort towns. Just dont by branded produce.

true, I bought a turnip, a sweet potato and a clove of garlic the other day and it was $2.31, and that would feed ya for a day. Also if you can, a restaurant job dish washing or as a sous chef usually means free food.

Yeah that would feed you.. But if you are skiing all day and then going to work in the evening you would want much more food than that and also food that tastes good.

Learn to cook your own food. Don't worry about buying the highest quality foods, such as vegetables, so long as they're decent to good quality. If you can cook properly, with seasoning and whatnot, you can add your own flavors and textures to food/meals that will distract you from the fact that you aren't actually eating a $40.00 steak, or something like that. Also, don't be afraid to drink water. It's better for you anyway, and it's free. Buy less drinks, and save your beverage money for beer and the likes. Drink water at meals, aside from a little milk in your fridge for cereal or for cooking etc.

That's what I'd do. Cooking is how you're going to save your money. Also, if you're creative with your cooking, you can eat good meals for little to no money. Try buying a bunch of KD, but add seasoning and flavors to it, as well as actual cheddar cheese. That's a great way to make a real tasty dish of pasta, for like 3 bucks. There's so much you can do with a little creative modification.

so true..ramen is still after all ramen.. no matter how you spice it up.

And the tastiest steaks are usually more expensive. But definitely cooking will help save money. I am just saying its always good to mooch off other peeps too. Like come over their house and do their dishes and eat a bunch of their food too.

PB&J, Ramen, Italians(the sandwiches not the people), dasani, fruit snacks, Gas station bean burritos and pizza slices, beer, cereal

dont buy prepared shit. everyone keeps listing all that sutff. It costs a fortune compared to veggies and what not. pasta. make it in bulk, make your own sauces. actual good sauces dont cost shit if you make them yourself.

You need meat if you are active. Or at least most people do. For steaks go with marinating steaks. By far the cheapest. You can marinade it for an hour and tenderize it and you almost cant tell the difference.

If you eat good quality balanced shit, you can eat less.

Living off KD isn't actually cheaper if you actually eat enough that may sustain you. And by that amount, it will probably kill you.

yea take pastas, put tomato suce in it ground beef and your all set. you can do all sorts of variations with ground beef.

oh and another good one is buy chicken and vegitables and add them to ramen and mke chicken noodle soup

I just buy a shitload of cheerios when they are on sale, can eat them any time of the day. Supplement them with powdered milk(=cheap!) and bananas(a must). Also eat a ton of microwave nachos, tortilla chips and shredded cheese=heaven. Also forget spending like $13 on a six pack of redbull, buy a 36 pack of emergen-c for like 8 bucks. You get 1,667% of your daily value of vitamin C from one packet!!

Make friends with the chef at a restaurant. Free, yummy meals. On the hill, my favorite is two packets of ketchup, two creamers mixed in a cup of hot water. Also, some mountains have wonderful condiment stations with crackers, cheese, onions, peppers and so on. Use the crackers as chips and make nachos! And, stock up on free granola bars. At most mountains I frequent, some company is giving away granola bars.

boxes of cereal are good can eat them anytime of day, get like a powerade bottle or something and fill it with snow, voila instant free classy natural ice water...have to say i liek the ramen idea mmmmmmmmmmmm

fruits and veggies are essentials, go for apples and carrots, easiest to eat and good for you

buy tea or coffee in bulk, coffee keeps you awake (same as tea) and you can chew on the bags while you ski...though it might not be the best taste, it's less expensive then gum :D

ramen, easy mac, and thats about it
thats my meals as soon as i get home from skiing and before i go then i starve throughout the day with an occasional mooch off some friends

ha ha. So true, that guy was trying to give tips on how to survive if you fall into a fast moving river, and you could see his life jacket under his coat. what a bouche dag.

are vitamins and supplements a waste of money or a good way to stay healthy on a poor dirt of salty noodles, bread, PB, and water?
