Ski brakes suck

I continue to go through ski brakes, and ruin bindings. When I wipe on switch landings it just bends to shit evey ski brake I have ever used. I used to have a pair of Marker Comp-Free 14s and the ski brakes were always a problem, the toe and heel pieces ended up breaking too. So on my new set up I went with some LOOK P12's and I am still going through ski brakes as the brake bends forward it is starting to bend and break parts of the heel piece. I know this problem happens to all of us what are you all doing to prevent it. Is there a binding out there that has solved the switch landing ski brake problem? Is turning my DIN even higher my only way to prevent this? I'd appreciate anyone's constructive feedback. I can't keep buying new bindings/brakes.
 
you must be landing really shitty like... i broke a lot of markers one season but they are shit. looks work pretty good, i donno, keep your weight more even when you are skiing/ landing.

you can just take the breaks off and ski w/o them... be ready for a lawsuit tho
 
ski brakes still have yet to be able to withstand awkward switch landings. something better needs to be developed for us newschoolers. ski brakes suck as it is.
 
Ski brakes rule... Have you ever lost a ski on a steep line, and it travels about 3/4 of the way down the hill... That sucks. How come you are coming out of your skis so much? I wouldn't recommend turning the DIN up too much unless you don't care what happens to your knees and hips.
 
My ski brake broke first day out this year. it didn't just bend, it broke out of place. Solomon has been taking their time. ITS BEEN 3 WEEKS! I still don't have it back yet.
 
salomon brakes are the worst- all last season, whenever my ski popped off, you would just see it shouting down the park. It sucked. It would go off into the trees and i would have to go try and find it. HILARIOUS to every but me..... :)
 
ski brakes are like the rear derailleurs of mountain biking. All the other technology continues to advance extremely quickly with some amazing innovation, except ski brakes.
 
the reason solomon breaks suck so bad are becuase they arent made for the wider skies yet(thats wut the ppl at my shop told me) they said that all they do is bend them out for u but sometimes they bend bak in so wen they are supposed to go down they stop on the ski....happened to me a few times last year...really sux to watch ur ski go down the hill w/ out u
 
just take them off, and use a leg strap(liesh) like boarders have. my friend broke his brakes in a competition last year so he took them off and put some leg straps on instead (because judges wanted their to be a leish or a brake on the skis)
 
word. when i eject, my skis go down the hill more often than not, because of my bloody salomon brakes. not wide enough for a ski with an 80 mm waist...thats bs.
 
yeah mine got bent so that when i pop out of the bindings the brakes dont come down, it whent halfway down a bowl in whistler last year before it stopped
 
I always break bindings and brakes. I think it is because my ace is too fat. Twice I pulled out the heel binding on a pair of rossignols. Maybe you need to lose weight. Thats my problem.
 
second time out riding.. my bindings bent.. last year i had the same problem very often, and it was super annoying, i think i might get another pair, if they have already bent i really dont feel like going through it the rest of the season
 
yea the first day out with my new skis fuckin brakes were a giant cluster fuck and i thre it against a tree (the whoel ski) and it ended up getting hit by a car
 
YEs someone knows what i mean..... a derailure on a mtb while downhilling is liek putting a nutsack on ur face during a bar fight.
 
i dont know how you people always wreck yor stuff. maybe im just not good enough to break my skiis
 
All they need to do is make a brake that can bend the other way when they it releases switch. Something NEEDS to be done.
 
if you dont want to break them by accident break them on purpose. if you cut the break support short enough it wont touch the snow but will have the same pop out drop down motion.i have never had a problem with my brakes though
 
bend ur brakes up about 45 degrees, they can still go down and hit the snow to stop your skis and wont catch as easily, other than that theres not a whole lot u can do
 
HAHAHAHA are you serious!!!??? what would be worse than having your ski shoot down the mountain because you dont have brakes?? maybe having them attached to you as you're tumbling down the mountain. have fun getting smacked in the face with that one
 
Leashes are actually used a lot in the backcountry, and as long as you give yourself a long enough tether between the ski and you, it's VERY rare.

My advice? Work on your switch landings. The only other option is to turn your DINs up, which is a bad idea in the long run. Work on landing more centered so you dont release.
 
i have a friend and every tuesday he breaks his bindings... hahaha its marker.. they are shit... forst time his toe piece shattered, so then he went and bought titainium bindings, then his brakes like, bent in half then exploded off his skis... it was intense.. so now he just cranks the din up and rides them..
 
only time I've had problems with my look/rossi breaks have been on my urban skis, that sucks. if you really cant get over this problem you might have to put some really small risers or somethin on them, not sure if that'd help but it seems like it would.
 
yeah they need to think of a better way to slow down twin tips because brakes werent made for skiing backwards

 
Stopping falling is the only way you'll prevent it completely. Brakes just are always going to bend on a heavy switch release. Get your technique sorted, and only turn your DIN up if you think you'd ski away if your skis stayed on.
 
I run leashes on my Prophet 130s cause I hooked up and tore a break out while riding switch. I've taken a few good tumbles and my skis stayed on, so I can't say if it'll suck to have them attached if I come out, but they don't hook up riding switch anymore.
 
Well, I think we're stuck with the current brake design until one of you guys quits complaining and decides to actually solve the problem. Saying something sucks and offering no input as to how the problem should be fixed will get you nowhere. I've never broken a ski brake before, but I have watched my skis go a couple hundred yards down the mountain after a crash before. I say the best solution is to tighten your bindings and cross your fingers for now.
 
I hear 4frnt has a "double hinge" design that they say prevents the brakes from breaking when you eject switch. only problem is that they run around $300
