Ski Brake

I really want to hash this issue out for myself. I’m getting Marker Griffon 13 bindings with a 90 or 110 option. Along with new bindings I’m getting QST 99s with a waist of (you guessed it) 99. I’m wondering which option for brake I should go with. If it matters I try to stay away from groomers and just look for fresh snow so I’m wondering if hitting the brake while carving is really a concern either. Thank you

I am 16 and I am still pretty new to the world of ski buying. I’ve always just done season rentals and haven’t cared much about what I ski on, but decided last season I was going to go for gear that would be tailored to my ski style and just wanted some help.

i think 110 is your pick, since that is only 5mm on either side which is great. the 90s could probably fit too though, perhaps with a little bending

I asked the same question in the other thread you bumped with the same question. Why griffons? Are you getting a really good deal on them? I see the qst 99 is your ski choice, are these being sold together as a package?

I’ve read they’re good alpine bindings, but I am also completely open to suggestions. I’m am sticking with the 99s and I’m getting QST Pro 120s for boots, both at 30% off, but the markers aren’t on sale and I have not done much research on other options. I’d love to hear your pick

Okay thank you very much, just out of curiosity what is wrong with markers?

markers design ejects laterally through the toe... a little less safe than other lateral ejections through the heel

theyre okay but i and plenty of others have had less than stellar experiences with them. i just think there are higher quality bindings for similar prices, like the Attacks i suggested.

plenty will disagree and you'd be fine on them, but they dont have the greatest reputation

I've had griffon's crack off toe mount. That being said, the attack 13's are basically the same design... I doubt the extra 20 ounces to the attacks will make them that much more durable.

I would pick whichever looked the best.

I had it in my head that the griffon were more expensive and having just looked it up they aren't really. Ebay at ~$170ish.

The attack 13 is great at the pricepoint. Also a few grams lighter than griffons. I've only skied griffon demos so not 100% even comparison but they're harder to click into, have taller stack height, are heavier and slightly more costly than the attack 13s, so I was just wondering why you choose them, especially if they didn't have a perfect brake fit.

Most here would either recommend pivots or attacks at an appropriate din range.

The attack 13 B95 should fit your QST 99, I have them mounted on ARV 96 and there are a few mm to spare. Blister has the actual waist measurement on their test pair as 98mm.

You can buy brakes and put them on your bindings if the ones that come with the bindings arnt your size. Somone correct me if I’m wrong

You can generally, but in this case the choice of brake size is 90, 100, or 120mm. Also the brake sets cost like $70 so when they break you're out the cost of half a set of bindings basically.
