Ski boots as carry on?

Going out to Jackson on saturday.Flying from Boston to Denver to Jackson
Wondering whether to check my boots or bring them on as carry on (there's nothing worse than skiing in rental boots).
What have you guys done in the past?

i have a bag that u put boots in and i dont carry it on with me... and i think it would be more of a haul to bring ur boots on a plane w/ u

My boot bag is pretty roomy so i just use that as my carry on, pack my boots and everything I need on the plane in there. It works out pretty well. Definitely don't want to lose my boots.

just use a backpack and throw them over the back. the one thing you dont want to lose is boots. and with nowadays airlines, I wouldn't risk it.

my boot bag is massive and i also use it for like helmet goggles snowpants jacket its way to big to not put in the bottom but i also havent been out west in a year

What airline? With Northwest, your ski bag and boot bag only count as one checked bag as long as their combined weight is under 50 lbs. (I don't think you're allowed other stuff in the bag, either.)

flying with skis for newbs

backpack with laptop, camera, GOGGLES, ect (i keep my goggles in my carry-on, i dont need them getting crushed)

boots, carried over shoulder

duffel bag with snow pants, helmet, street cloths, gloves, everything you would pack...

ski bag (i like my sport tube) with the skis...

so your total is one ski bag (or box) one duffel bag. (these are checked bags)

then one carry-on (backpack) and one pair of boots... you're set!

oh yeah when i went to hood in summer, i just took em on wit me, i got all sorts o wierd looks, but hey isnt that what skiing is aboot?

Fly with southwest, you won't get raped with ski bag charges, I've brought my back pack and loose ski boots on no problem.

Always always always carry on your boots, You can loose all your other gear but you boots are the one thing that you need

this is what i was thinking. im flying american i think so i wasnt sure on the policy, i'll give them a call today to see.

I use a Dakine boot locker for my carry on.

Boots, pants, gloves, goggles, helmet, socks, baselayer, etc goes inside. If they lose my skis and all my luggage I can still go skiing with what I've got in my carry on. Skis can be rented and clothes can be replaced but I'd never want to rent boots.

checking your boots is the dumbest thing ever. I used to just carry on my boots, with out a bag or anything. now I use one of those rolling carry on bags, and they fit really well in there, along with a bunch of clothes and other essentials. airlines always fuck stuff up. if your gonna lose your bags, you at least have your own boots to use.

the only thing that the airline would lose is your skis, so anything you think is important (like ski boots), don't put those with your skis... let the skis travel by themselves and keep everything else separate. Lastly, pray to the snow gods ur powder sticks make it... ive traveled out west 3 times and the airline temporarily lost my skis 2 of those times...

Flew to jackson in january and the airline lost everything but out skis, Had my boots as a carry on and just bummed clothes off the people I went with. So i would suggest carrying on your boots

This is how it's done! Except my ski bag will have 2 pair of skis. And on the way home, i'll just throw my boots in the ski bag.
Never had a problem doing it like this!

things i bring as carryon: boots, helmet (clipped to my backpack), goggles in backpack.

imagine how much it would suck having your boots lost by the airlines...having to use rental boots could put a damper on your vacation. its definitely worth the minor pain of bringing your boots on the plane with you.

yeah always carry your boots, because you never want to have to rent boots or borrow since they are so custom to your own foot.

Carry them on. If the airlines are going to lose something, don't let it be your boots. Skis are pretty easy to rent/demo. Boots that are molded/broken in to your feet, not so much.

great thread!

im goin out to UT over spring break, and have been wonderin whether or not it would

be legit to bring boots just slung over my shoulder w/ my backpack

carried them on the plane in a little bag, no problems at all. to the guy above me i saw someone else who just slung them over his shoulder, so thats not a problem

You dont want to risk your boots not showing up. thats way worse than any other problem. bring them on as carry on. It happens far too often

hang them over your pack and bring them
when the securtiy FUCKS give you shit, just give them dirty smirks like "are you really wasting your time on this" and you will be fine.
FUCK rental boots, and FUCK rental skis too
