Ski boot dye guy?

pretty sure the logo's will stay on there.

I left mine in for 2+ hours and the logos stayed on mine.

you could probly scratch the logos off then wipe them clean then you'll be fully murdered out bruhda.

shoe size =/= boot size. depending on how you wear shoes, you should go down at least one, sometimes 2 sizes down. I wear a size 10 shoe (about 28 mondo) and a size 26 boot (about size 8 shoe) fits me perfectly for the most part, toes touching the end, easing off as i flex. If you wear size 13 shoes, that equates to about a 30, so i'd bet for ski boots you'd fit pretty well in a 28, 28.5. granted, full tilt sizing is a little bit funky, so you might need to go up to a 29, but that's still a pretty big boot. this is pretty general, and without seeing your foot there's a solid amount of speculation here, but a 31.5 is one hell of a big boot, like a size 14 or 15 shoe, reserved for basketball players and pornstars. i'm sure they're comfy, but i find it very hard to believe they'll hold your foot properly.

That's exactly it...I wear a 13.5 Vans, which fits big. I got all the fitting done at a reputable bootfitter. Toes touch when standing straight, when flexed, they are off the end. Heat molded. Trust me, it took me a long time to find a boot that fit, and since I am currently jobless, I didn't want to spend my money where it wouldn't fit well. I also have a tall/thick vertically foot, so the FTs had a nice bit of room up top for that bulk. I ski 70% of my time either sidecountry or inbounds freeride, and I used to race and do mogul freestyle, so I know how a boot is supposed to fit.

Kinda wanting to murder out my FT classics... is the back part of the boot removable with just the screws visible, or is it harder than that? and do the buckles dye well?

The way I've done it with lacrosse heads, which I am assuming can be done the exact same way, is with a glue gun or stickers.

Either leave the original color, or first dye the boot a lighter color. Put hot glue or melt (hair dryer) stickers in a design on your boot. Let it set, then dye the boot the darker color. Let it sit for 24 hours, then take a knife and pluck off all the glue or stickers. The lighter color will show up in the design you covered up.

I have similar questions.

I'm working on dying my boots right now. I used a 5 gallon bucket and 3.5-4 gallons of hot water + 1 packet of Black RIT. I left everything in for about 20 hours while I slept and went to class, the backs got a lot darker, but I hardly got any change in the buckles. I'm going to get a few more packs and make a more concentrated solution (I didn't realize how bulky it would be to try and fit 2 boot backs into a 5 gallon bucket).

Does anyone have special tips for dying plastic FT buckles?

It looks like acetone in a 4:1 ratio helps the dye soak in. It also looks like this can harm the plastic if not done correctly?

Ok. I just dyed the tongues. They took die super well, I used about a 3rd cup of salt to drive dye out of the water and into the plastic. The buckles wouldn't take any dye though. The tongues are a nice green/turquoise and the buckles are a very pale green at that.

So that makes two failed attempts to dye buckles. The back and tongues worked pretty well though.

Any tips? Please?

Here is the current state of my boots. As you can see, the tongue took die well (it's scratched and beat up, but better than the off white it used to be). But the white buckle didn't take die very well at all.

The backs got way darker, but they are still faintly purple. I'm probably going to try to dye the backs a little bit darker. I might not since you won't really see it from far away, and it looks better than the chipped spraypaint from before.

I'm considering using hobby paint, like for models, to paint my buckles. I'm thinking that gold or silver might look pretty cool. The dye just isn't working well, and I'm not sure why.

When I get this all done, I'll post a writeup of what worked/didn't work/ and how I'm managing to do all my work in my dorm room/res hall kitchen.

Has anybody had luck in dyeing the back part of the Full Tilt boots?? Seems like its a more 'shiny' plastic that doesnt look as though it will dye as well.....

I'm trying to dye the Hot Doggers 09/10 (the all red ones)

wondering how my technica agents (white boot, neon green buckles) would work and what color you guys think would look good, i was thinking all black with the neon green buckles

Err you're not going to be able to do much with them. Black is black you cant dye that a lighter colour and the red is pretty dark on the classics so best you could do would be to dye them like black or dark purple. White/light colours like turquoisereally are the only colours which dye well

Technically yes. It may be a more bluey or reddy purple depending on how well it penetrates the plastic. I would advise dying white ones if you are fairly set on a specific tone of purple.

I know this is an old thread, But I've got a question for y'all.I'm about to get a pair of the clear booters; Do you think the dye will work on the clear shell?

I'm planning to die the white parts black and the clear part blue.

I know this is an old thread, but this is the first result that Google search shows when you search for "dye ski boots." Just wanted to share a how to video I made in hopes that it'll help others.
