Ski Boarding, i didint realize people still did it.

im a skier never skiboarded, but i know that xgames had skiboarding before skiing. eric pollard was in the competition.

ski boardin is terrible.... i did it once and that shit sucks... i broke them cuz i got too much air and landed hard and that shit is so easy to do.... so if u can do a 5 on skiboards then u can barely even 3 on skis

yes. There are a lot of Freeskiing icons that got a start or at least participated in Skiboarding. Examples:

Eric Pollard

Mike Nick

Iannick B

Mike Wilson

back in 2001 Line actually had more skiboard models than twin tip ski models. And they had their own skiboard specific boots and bindings. They even had this really cool skiboard called the Weapon and it had a section of edge missing under the boot and a slide/grind plate. Then I do remember the production of a "soul plate" that was attached to the side of the boot or binding (i can't remember) to allow skiboarders to do soul grinds like fruitbooters. Kind of gimmicks, but it was kinda cool to see some variation with tricks.

problems with ski boarding....

1. no poles

2. horrible style

3.anything you can do in shoes you can do on the gay sticks

4.line makes them...so you know theyre gay

everytime i see some on ski boards go off a jump it looks like they are going to break their neck.

yeah i've actually met ben wannamaker, he's on ns and his name is Mikael420. he's on right now you can talk to him i'm sure he'll be happy to give some insight into snowblading. i'm suprised he hasn't posted yet(but i haven't read the second page so idk). He's a really cool guy i met him at the belleayre rail jam last november after he called me out for making fun of snowbladers. He came in second place and had the support of pretty much the whole crowd at the end. he trew down some legit tricks, 270's all over and a 360 switch up gap the top part of a battleship and he made it look decent. Before that i had no respect for any snowblader. But no i don't snowblade.

what a fucked up thread...

I pose this question -

What is the difference between skiboarding and skiing with "no-poles' (which is the new pink this season)//

Al you haters are clueless as to the orgins of you beloved newschool skiing and spewing intolerant hate towards this group of misguided snowlovers speaks volumes to your own worthyness.

1. Skiboarding WAS in the x-games before freestyle skiing was (there was a skier-cross back then)

2. Most of those orginal x-game skiboard athletes went on the pioneer newschool skiing

I repeat, and I would love a debate on this subject, how the fuck is skiboarding ANY different than skiing without poles - Oh the length? I See morns who are 5'10" skiing 140cm skis without poles all the time.

Don't hate, appreciate -

Peace - Waynewong - x-games class of 99,00, 01 skiboarding and skiing

Amen!

Thanks for that. That needed saying. Excellent post. If people understood the history of their sport they wouldnt be hating...

Btw my avatar is from the best ski graphic ever - the Mike Nick Pro skiboard - one of the first top end twin tips...

Skiboarding was one of the influences that molded twin tip skis and freestyle skiing into what it is today. Mick Nick got his start on skiboards. It eventually got to the point where the progression stopped due to them being so short, you can't hit anything big because you have nothing to land on. So most pros switched over to twin tips and incorperated technology into full size skis because they have the most potential.

i like how pro skiboarders from 1999 are better than any other "pro skiboarder' ive seen a video of lately. at least skiing is progressing.

btw i spend all of my nightskiing activities playing on snowblades but only because its fun, i couldnt imagine myself dropping skis for them. I find it hard thinking of them as a real sport with culture and proression when most people start on snowblades then switch to real skis. but if you have a video of someone killing it on snowblades post it.

=related

he kills it.

oh yeah, reason for all the skiboarders at mt creek cause there was a meet up from www.skiboardsonline.com

Parkerhouse! thanks for stepping to the plate with some respect!

So yea, I like to shred... i dont ski, or skiboard, or snowboard, or tobbogan, or fat ski in the pow, or jib ski in the park, or rock 210s on plake day... when the snow falls, I shred. Im a shredbum. I have been travelling around the world looking for good snow since i was 16 and I will do it until the day that I die. I am currently in Japan and was shredding throat deep pow yesterday on my libertys (libertyskis.ca) when I saw 2 dudes ripping on snowbikes. They were stoked! So I didnt hate. I then saw 2 kids on snowboards who couldnt carve at all and were eating shit in the pow... but they were stoked, so i didnt hate. I didnt think they gave my sport a bad name because I was to busy jumping around off pillows and getting what was mine. Pow pow pow pow pow. At the bottom of my run I saw a dude with his family skiing 215cm sticks with jeans and aviators in ZERO visibility intense pow conditions... looking like a true gaper. After TALKING with him, he has skied jackson hole and squaw in the same gear... and he was passing on shred stoke to his son... so i didnt hate. Again to busy getting what was mine.

And as for todays pros... maybe instead of judging an entire community by what you saw on maybe a halfassed earlyseason day at killington, you should actually buy a video? Brett Connors is doing 60ft + cliff and cornice drops on 105cm boards and is riding away in chest deep in the colorado back country... berthoud pass. Featured in Buggard Mouse.. THE KOOKS A CHARGIN. Shinji Osada won the Skiboard World Cup 2007 doing cab 10s and got an invite to the Jon Olsson Invitational... also featured in BM available at skiboardsonline.com.... I am sponsored by libertyskis and have a signature line of clothes with blindfive clothing and am also featured in BM. Along with a slew of other people who like to play in the snow.

instead of saying that we gapers hollering and hooting with so much stoke and passion down the mountain are giving skiing a bad name, maybe consider how many people dont even post on the forums beacuse of the haters who just love to hate. NS is famous for the haters in the ski community and that is a big and unfortunate stain on this websites otherwise incomperable reputation. Think about who is giving skiing a bad name...

Shred the gnar!!! i`ll still slap five with any of you guys

ben

p.s look for my throat deep pow pics/blog on the liberty skis blog soon to come

Skiboards are the father of twin-tips. Big industry sucked in people from skiboards to twin tip skis just to make more money. It's so easy to brainwash ppl into - bigger is better - and charge 2 or 3 times the price plus the ski rack on the car. It's all about money.

Whoever didn't like skiboards probably didn't even try real skiboards but low end blades ... big difference, it's like riding the park on X-country skis .

Here's a lineup of top American & Japanese real skiboards:

that is the queerest shit i've ever seen. that kids "butters" were him just spinning around on the ground on those little shit sticks. by far the most illegitimate sport currently being practiced.

take away the snow and its a fruit booter.

not a fan at all. Zero Steezey on all levels. Cant believe they are still around.

Even if you pulled a Corked 1080 on those things off the gnariest kicker, I wouldnt give a fuck. I saw the married couple that first promoted this product up in NY.. dancing down the montain.,,a long time ago. Like mid-1990's or somethin.

The guy was a total pitchman for the blades or whatever you want to call them.. He and his wife would either split up on the chair and ride single or double team some young dude with a sales pitch.

I got stuck on the lift with both of them.. and dude tried to infomercial me on the lift the entire ride up...

would not shut up... was telling me how my skis will always be clumsy.. and are dated!

our arguement got heated when I said " sorry dude, only fags would buy those things."

I was skiing on 200's at the time in the mid 1990's... so feel me?

those guys have got nothing on n.i.g., someone pull up that vid from okemo cause it was ridic

haha thats so gay, like i dont know if you can get any further away from having any style at all.
ill admit that using snowlerblades on gaper day is fun, but thats the only way it will be fun, when your goofing around. but those guys looked like such tools taking it all serious.

thats the common name but there is truly a difference between "snow-blades" and "skiboards" skiboards are alot wider and are higher quality

i used to skiboard, there i admited it!(this was when i was a gaper who didnt know shit about twintips)

So we just had the ski board world cup in Dubai, and in all honesty it was sick, those guys can throw some good shit down, ill just leave you with afew pictures.

And, this picture could just hold the truth, maybe they really are gay? (sorry kirk!)

fakedown_kirk_shu1.jpg

But all in all they did throw dowsome amazing stuff and it was super interesting to watch.

105 cm? I belive those excede the 99cm skiboard length maximum. You friend did that drop on skis.

you're a little bitch dude, in one thread you talk shit calling it gayblading, and now you're in here sucking short ski dick.

Yeah, i called it gayblading but also said they were sick. What does it matter what its called, it has more than 1 name already.
