hey theres an area up either near lake placid that used to be a ski area but everyone went to whiteface or gore so no one went there.

now from reading that other post on june mountain where they are building a huge park on it, i realized the east coast doesnt have jack like that. the biggest thing i know of is mountain creek in NJ has about 1/3 of their terrain to parks and pipes... not to bad.. but

i say we buy this place in upstate new york and string some lifts on it and build it all into a huge park for the east coast and blow everything else away

sounds like a plan to me

by the way does anyone know the name of that hill thats abandoned up there? i cant remember

for $100 000 you would be able to buy about half of a groomer. Now raise another 7 or 8 million and then we'll talk.

it's only gonna be in the millions guys if it comes with working lifts and lodge. Donner ski ranch next to sugar bowl I think was on the market for about $10 mil. That's with like 6 lifts and lodge and snowcats and snowmaking and all that good stuff. Plus I don't think it'd be unreasonable to say that that property on donner summit would be worth a hell of a lot more than a little backwoods hill in upstate NY.

haha- I dig it.

Everyone on the site puts in $1000, more or less depending on how much they can afford. We call up all the big ski companies and tell them that we are building something bigger than Superpark, Parkasaurus, Mt. Hood, and Whistler combined. Then we turn it into a giant media frenzy, make millions of dollars off of sponsors, and spend a shitload to make snow production all summer long so we can all jib with the pros year-round. Oh, and since we will run the resort, Harvey gets to choose who can ski there or not. We'll limit it to newschoolers.com members, pro skiers, filmers, and babes.

YEAH!

what if we all mow a real lot of lawns tho? now we're talkin cash

ha... now if I had more than $100 to invest... (yeah, that's canadian money). BAH!

Matt

almost half of a groomer. Not quite. Unless you got an old peice of shit. One good gun would run you 20,000, and you would need more than one

yeah man, I'm down for it, let's do it man, our own newschoolers park, that's be the sickest thing ever!!

uhhh... ski resorts cost more than one or 2 million. i'd say, if someone here was rich, to buy the land, put in some t-bars and make a park

ok well they would probrably sell the land pretty cheap if it is on the middle of nowhere. its still a lot of money. then you could buy the biggest piece of shit t-bar or something like that for cheap to. then you would have to have a little base area. pretty inexpensive but i dont think it would happen unless we find a couple extremely rich people on this site. that would be sooo sick if an acutal company bought a hill like that and made the whole thing into a huge park and get a pimped out base area and shit. that would rule

how about we dont buy it, but poach it instead and handbuild our own park. and a handmade halfpipe, like in the 80s. my cousin has an ill snowblower, thats a start

'let me tell ya'll what its like...to be a male, middle class and white'

this place wont be more than a couple mil as its a total piece of shit, what we should do is approach companys to sponsor and sell add space throughout the park, billboardy type stuff, and give that spots to open stores in the base if they pay for the operational costs, and we would hold contests there and get lots of pros and then ud get tons of advertising money

This place has everything. Snowmakers, Groomers, rental skis, lifts there are double chairs for cheap.

You really do need a TON of cash to go into a business like this. Investors won't even talk to you if you don't have some of your own cash invested in the business.

I think if anyone's interested in starting a hill like this, it'd be better to go find a piece of land somewhere off in the boonies for really cheap... maybe you can even lease it from the owner (I'm sure you could find some farmer who'd be glad to let you use his/her land (that (s)he isn't using anyway) for a couple years)... then start small with a tow-rope, a tiny lodge (the size of a small house maybe) just so people can warm up/get into their ski stuff, etc... then get a realllllllllllly shitty used groomer... the chances of affording snowmaking the first year are pretty slim... you can do what a hill around here did and shovel snow off the street onto their hill! haha..

but yeah, if you start from scratch, REALLY small, then slowly build it up every year, I think that'd be more feasible then buying an old piece of crap with HUGE maintenance costs..

Even the cheap way would cost a fortune..

Matt

It's the return of the alien, it did not liked my story....

I think a guy like moseley should do it. Imagine the publicity.... If he would do it, he would really take the sport to another level.

true it would take alot of money

i say newschoolers actually bought a hill from a farmer in the east out somewhere and started just like that. the cool thing is that it would be a place where no families and ppl like that would be, just skiers and snowboarders ripping up a halfpipe and stuff what would we need maintenence for? a lodge acan be like a shack or something.. just something with a fire and warmth. wouldnt that kick ass

There is a place in Ottawa actually that tried to do that, but it was soooooooooo crappy. No one ever went as far as I know... oh, and they didn't let skiers in. They were smart. Their snow was nasty (in a bad way.. what's with nasty being good now?) too because they took it off the street... but one day, I'd like to do something like this (when I have some cash to invest!).

Matt

'Now even YOU can run your own 5 star ski resort! With Ski Resort Tycoon, anything is possible!'

Yep, Ski Resort Tycoon lets you build your own resort.. it was fun for a bit... CKO is a pro at it... my computer gets all choppy though and I can't play it anymore.. hehe... but yeah, that game's pretty fun.

Matt

Hey Harvey, you should make that game, I reckons you could make a heap of dosh if you did, heck, I'd buy 10 copies.

'When people say you have a one track mind, tell them they're only half right...skiing leaves TWO tracks!!' - Seth Morrison.

guys, we need a whole ski resort devoted for newschool skiiers and snowboarders that are harecore tricksters!

we could have rail land, table top land, quarter pipe land

could you image rail land, a hundred rails spread out everywhere, everywhere you go there is a rail!

that would get sponsers crawling all over our park...

hahah dynopark tycooon? i used to love that game its pretty old though

i think that if we got a side of a hill in a snowy region like up in northern vermont or somewhere we could take snow from parking lots and stuff right after storms before it gets crappy and take like heavy machines like backhoes and bulldozers and stuff... you can groom with a bulldozer..sortof

Yeah actually that's what the hill around here did.. they use a bull-dozer as a groomer.

Matt

haha, that'd be great. Or you could just push snow around an urban rail like we do already??

'When people say you have a one track mind, tell them they're only half right...skiing leaves TWO tracks!!' - Seth Morrison.

i think you could get funding for that if you were serious...just check out bank loans and get investers...but this would be like you whole life in one thing man

The thing with investors is that you have to have some of your money in the business as well! There's no way you will start a business with 100% of the money from investors. If you manage that, you have some dumb investors on your hands.

The reason for this is that if you have your own money in your business, you will think really hard about what to do with it... if it's all investors money, and you go bankrupt, you really haven't lost anything.. also, if you don't have any of your own cash in, how are you supposed to prove to your investors that you have confidence in your business? If an investor saw someone looking for investments, and the owner had 90% of the costs covered by his/her own cash, then that investor is probably very likely to look into it..

k, I'm rambling.. but you get the point.

Matt

i think a good idea is to get some (2-3) big sponsors along with some of your own money and have each of the investors sponsor each of the sections of the park, like maybe freeze sponsor the qp, and salomon sponsor the jib area, stuff like that... of course it wouldnt be that big at first, but i'd definately grow over time

i think it would also help a lot if you showed that a lot of people were into this and would help out with upkeep and growth

yeah, clarke's onto it

yep, me too

Yeah guys. Some of your own money does not mean a grand. It doesn't even mean 100g we're talking big money here. You need some capital and a damn good business plan before any bank will even think about giving you a loan. Keep dreamin' though.

Peace.

huh- since a lot of you guys are Canadian, when we collect money all the U.S. guys pay $5,000 apiece, and the Canadians dish out..... 4,000,000,000,000,000 canadian dollars apiece. That should be about even......

Actually there are two mountains that used to be ski areas in the general Lake Placid area. There is Pale Face which is Wilmington about 5minutes from whiteface, and there is Mount Whitney which is in Lake Placid. My uncle used to start up the lifts at Pale face once a year, and it was pretty sick. I beleave that both of these mountains are privately owned, but am unsure if they are selling them. Mount Whitney would be the better of the two mountains to buy because of it's smaller size and location (It would probably be cheaper and more successfull as a park and pipe exclusive mountain).

this is like ns island...only a mountain...ns mountain...
