Ski and Snowboard Big Air added to 2018 Winter Olympics

New title in skiing? The double? Winning X Games Slope and Olympic Slope or winning X Games Big Air and Olympic Big Air?

Sorry to blow this up, but I don't see any freestyle skiing in there :http://www.olympic.org/news/new-eve...tion-youth-appeal-for-pyeongchang-2018/246262

Hmmmm yep looks like it was just Snowboard Big Air that was added for 2018. The article in OP is the only one I can find claiming that ski big air was added..

From a the CBC article: "Big Air events in freestyle skiing had also been proposed for Olympic inclusion but did not win IOC approval"

Bummer! Sorry for the incorrect info, OP is a big 'ol idiot

Wow didnt realize IOC was that out of touch.

I went to X games this past January and the crowd at the snowboard big air final was all but entirely absent. The ski big air final however was PACKED!

I could see it being added, it just might take another year to get approved. I doubt they'd do only snowboarding after slopestyle was added for both.

inb4 some aerial dude competes and lands a sextuple corcked helicopter and wins despite having less style than someone wearing crocks with white socks and zip-off capri pants.

maybe we have to do quads to unlock big air in the olympics

I think its cool that its jam format though, removes a bit of stress while also being a bit more interesting for spectators too

if they had skiing I feel like a lot of countries would just see this as an opportunity to snag some more medals by training their aerialists to compete in both. if you can do that I dunno

i thought slope judging was good, and very strict about being in control and stomping landings. i will bet any of you lots of money that the winner will not be some aerial transplant dude. someone a bit robotic? maybe, but even that's not a given at all

Doubt that, big difference flying straight up in the air with short skis to fly a long ass jump with park skis.

Skiing already has a big air event at the olympics though, it's just called aerials instead.

Thats not necessarily true. USSA has both big air and aerials contests. The difference is that aerials you have to call your trick and its a combined score of two jumps, big air is just best one jump and you can do whatever.

Ski big air will most likely never become an Olympic event. FIS only allows so many skiers into the Olympics. With so many skiing disciplines already, they would have to cut one out in order to make room for big air.

I think its more that FIS just doesn't give a shit about freestyle.

i feel like 90% of the people competing in big air are also going to be competing in other events, so the number of people probably wont be a big deal
