skateboarding

Forever I always wanted to learn to skateboard but non of my friends did, so for some retarded reason I never learned. Then I finally thought, 'this sucks. I'm gonna learn to skateboard.' so I went out and bought a skateboard and I've had it for a week and I pretty much suck. I can ollie onto and off of curbs, and I can roll around and thats it. I was just wondering who here skateboards and how long it took you to not suck? I don't know what this thread is for but we can talk about skateboarding. Its the second kickass-est thing ever, behind skiing.

it will take you a year to get decent, probably 2 , to get good? depends on how often you skate... and depends on what moves you try and where you skate, if you skate park everyday then you will get good fast, count on a year or two

the second kick-ass thing is biking

then sex

then in-line skating

then skateboarding.

ollieing is HARD!!! well kinda. it looks so easy but the timing is so tight. I practised like a million ollies and I can only do it descent some times. After I can ollie alway are kickflips hard? I can half kickflip sometimes and land on the wrong side of the board sometimes but thats not very usefull. what about 50-50ing small rails? is that very hard, assuming I can ollie?

i've learned to ollie by just watching my friends when they rip the park with their boards. i don't skate though.

HERWUUD GHETTO ASS PARK REPRESENTS!

i skateboard... and it is hard... lots of my friends skate and most are better than me even tho i skate constantly... its fun and i do it for my own sake... putting in time and effort will get you that kickflip... i just landed my first and my first varial flip yesterday... keep at it and try and work on your footing... no one can teach you skateboarding and it makes it a beautiful sport once you learn and continue... just keep at it! hahaha tho dont get me wrong... skiing comes before it at all costs!

i got into skating last year and got a good deck but then i just sucked ass so i broke it and pulled out my bike..

i didnt take me a while to get decent..just go out lots....its take a while to learn the basic but once you have those your learn really quick

give up before you waste anymore time, skateboarding is too damn hard. just kidding, stick with it and try to find people to skate with.

it depends if you skate often. i've had a deck for 3 years but i didn't skate every day so i still suck. but i now a 10 year old kid who rocks because he skates everyday. practice makes perfect.

one time, at band camp i saw spongebob and it was funny

^^ Jibmaster_J, you have a cool name. I use that lots of other places that aren't here. now when I try a new sign in name as JibmasterJ or something and it says that name is taken i know who it was.

it's been 3 years and now i'm decent enough to 'not suck' even though i still kinda suck...i can hold my own in a park

I was from a small town where everyone was in groups. Like there were the jocks and the skaters and the nerds and whatever else, and me and my friends weren't skaters. and it sucked because I just couldn't get a skateboard. I always wanted to, but I couldn't or I would be a poser. So then I left high school and went to university and said fuck it. I wear skater clothes any way and I'm always looking for clothes in skate shops and i don't skate?? I suck. so I said fuck everyone I'm doing what i want to do, which i think is pretty un-posery, and I got a skateboard. I've been a happier person since. I love it. I suck balls but oh well its fun to learn something. I'll be okish by the end of the summer. is anyone else like this or do you do it because your friends got you into it?

i still to this day don't support skate clothes....i have like 2 shirts...i'm not paying 35 canadian for a t-shirt....i just find something cool at frenchy's

but yea, this summer i have a bunch of tricks down, and a lot of confidence in my control now. i'll be kickflipping stairs and shit in 1 week the way i'm progressing now

yes longboard represent!

i skate a bit to, i just started going to the park everyday, and i think before everyone learns ollies and kickflips they should learn transitions. riding snakeruns, banks, quarters, just get a good feel of the board under your feet

it wll take yhou a long long time, you just ogtta get some park tricks down, don't worry yourself too much about kickflips, get ollies and then start ollieing onto stuff before you learn kickflips, and learn all your tricks moving, its no help to do them standing still

'Keep on rocking in the free world'

^ good points, and don't get too far ahead of urself...i ahve people in my town trying nollies before they can ollie etc. ollie is key, and everything moving is especially key. Good practice for starting, is to get a pile of something, i use firewood. put down 1 little log, ollie it, a second ollie etc..just get a nice stack going. soon u can 180 and kickflip it

yup everything should be done rolling. and make shure to master your olli for it is the base of most tricks.

i rollerblade when i cant ski. thats why ill progress in the summer while you guys learn how to do.. kickflips? very useful in the skiing world.

i'm a cold heart breaker.

im fit to burn.

ill rip your heart in two.

and i'll leave you lying on the bed.

i'll be out the door.

before you wake.

its nothing new to you.

yes i think we've seen that movie too.

Your skating so you don't look like a poser and you can wear your clothes without being a faggot? You will never get good at skating because you are a fucking poser and are doing it for the image and the clothes. I don't meant to be an asshole but skateboarding is about alot more than that. You have to love it which means you could be rocking some velcroe relays and a old navy shirt and still be comfortable. Brands own you sluts. Stop stealing our culture. Just play tony hawk you'll get your instant gratification there.

Yea kickflips are tricky, I was probably skating about 3 months before I could do them. Yea keep working on your ollie and get that solid. You need to have that down so you go skate various places and be comfortable on your bored and be able to skate more versatile spots. Another thing I see people failing to do is learn to skate with speed. Even when people finally learn stuff they don't work on doing it faster. Being able to do tricks with speed makes you become smoother. Yea I've been skating seriously about 2 and a half years, I mean I could kickflip and stuff back in middle school, but i rode bmx for a long time until I got tired of repairing it all the time. Nollie flips still elude me though, I'm so close to them though.

dewd!! eye m so board!11

i skated for 3 years-ish now. i think. it really doesn't matter how long you skate. same thing for skiing. some people get it right away and it just clicks for them. some people go forever and will never be good. thing is don't get frustrated, don't compare yourself to others, and don't try to be the best. ollie on and off curbs in a week is good. i say in about 2 months you'll have a pretty good ollie and a few other tricks too. keep it up.

clo has it right. I sport used circas and salomon or old navy shirts....i have a independant shirt i was underneath my button-up collered shirts....other than that i just wear what is comfortable. It's bad enough i have to pay 85 canadian for my deck alone. i'm not supporting the brands in the clothing department
