Skateboarding vs. Rollerblading/ Skiing/ Bmx ect.

ythen why dont you go watch a rollerblader do some tech stuff...

540 kindgrind, switchup, 450 out? i would call that tech...

and 98% of the skateboard world does not do tech tricks on hand rails...

the coolest thing i saw lately, was a kiid, dont remember his name, do a front board 2 off...down a handrail... i will admit that is sick... along with a guy doing a frontboard down a 10 set, on a longboard

exactly... with skateboarding, if i realize im not going to land the kickflip, i just bail the board...

On rollerblades, if i realize im not gettin that 5 around, i cringe and wait for death

Yep, thats the truth.

I've seen urbanjib bail on a board, and i've seen him hit the concrete on rollerblades.

Personally, I suck at all of it, but if I had to choose one I'd skateboard.

It's because although skateboarding evolved from surfing, all said sports evolved from how skateboarding from surfing (modern street skating.) Also, because someone can put on rollerblades and jump around, but someone can't just step on a skateboard and ollie (without previous instruction.) Skateboarders generally hold a bias against "fruitbooters" because when people first started doing tricks on rollerblades, it can probably only be related to how someone like myself views a ripsticker coming to a skatpark or spot. The concept of skateboarding is really stupid, rolling around on a plank of wood. Yet, it's also my favorite thing in the world to do.I have no idea why I love it so much. You can't really understand unless you've been skateboarding for a while. Landing bolts and rolling away from a trick is so satisfying. Also, the act of cruising around is incredible. The fact that people quit skateboarding who have been skateboarding for years astonishes me, I just can't grasp quitting skateboarding. It pretty much consumes me. Even in the winter, it influences the way I snowboard in every aspect.

i knew asian alien would help me out on this argument. sooooo, why IS skateboarding at the fore front of xgames advertising and loved by more teens than just about anything else sports wise? is it really because its cheap? i don't think so, because i have hear that one of the most popular sporting events even is nascar and the f1. so if the accessibility to just go out and try what the pros do isn't there (like in nascar/f1) then why do so many of us watch it? i'm pretty sure its a guy thing (load noise and speed), not being sexist, but it kinda is. so what makes skating the "manly" or "guy" thing to do, if thats what makes a sport so popular? why else would someone like nascar over golf to watch, and find the same appealing aspects of skating to be over rollerblading aspects?

I longboard around campus and i dont find it any more extreme than riding a bike, it just feels more like carving and is more fun.

However taking rails and jibs on a board can cause some massive injury so in that way it is extreme

But When compared to lollerblading its just puss, you can easily bail a skateboard but on blades you cant....

Skiing however looks more extrem because you can go way bigger on skis and you can acces terrain where regular people would shit their pants while on skates youre restricted to the skatepark...

now do a nollie tre flip down that 5 set. Hell show me a switch ollie down it and I would be impressed. Skating is one of the hardest things to get good at than almost anything and it takes years to get amazing at unless you are a natural.

Also tech dosen't mean good or stylish it means technical.

In ohio there is no such thing as soft snow. Regardless i skate and i can tre and stuff like that. skating is difficult, but for not as much reward. doing a frontflip over a 30 foot gap is more rewarding than doing a kickflip down a 4 stair. skiing can be really dangerous if you case or overshoot a jump, spin corked or inverted, or get off you axis while in the air. handrails have the same danger as skateboarding except you usually have a softer landing skiing, but usually try bigger more dangerous rails, not forgetting switch-ups which a skateboarder could never do. In skateboarding the landing is usually not on your side, but unless you are pro, you have only a small chance of serious injury.

ok while a nollie tre may be cool in skateboarding, the rollerblade equivalent would be wat? a switch 7? or has anyone seen the video of sizemore throwin a backflip?

GTFO

sorry for the double post

My OPINION on why its so popular

Media culture selected it, and an executive decided it should be "cool"

Therefore why there a skateboarders in Music videos, movies about them, why its so popular

If you see lil wayne skating, even if its staged, and your a fan, more than likely you will start doing it too

They removed rollerblading from the mainstream...It was removed from X-games because they believed it wasnt the "cool" thing anymore, therefore there should be no reason to have a comp for it

Go watch Black Market,or another one of Dougs videos, and learn something

Its all controlled by executives of companies, and they will decide whats cool. As soon as they find another cash cow, they will go milk it, and skateboarding will go back underground again, like it has in the past

Sorry if this isnt comprehensive... ill clean up my later posts

one reason skating is bigger than blading is one simple fact... its more convenient. i mean most people look at as a convience issue cus who wants to take the time to put on there roller blades whn you can just walk out the door and grab your board and go skate? (me) in some aspects, rollerblading might be sicker than skating but once again its also not the "cool" thing to do

i longboard too man. i don't find it to be a sport were you don't have to push yourself to try things and get hurt, and its a whole different ball game than skateboarding. its super fun just to carver around like you said, and its also a good way to commute.

skateboarding is one of the hardest extreme sports to be actually GOOD at. I cant believe the level it has gotten to.

and to the thread creator saying its not dangerous. fuck that. its soo easy to hurt yourself on the simplest shit.

I think your trying to compare skateboarding to rollerblading which can't really be done to that extent. Also, I think you get the impression that skateboarders think that nothing rollerbladers do is gnarly. I've been impressed with rollerblading many times. It's just like I said before to some kids especially older dudes being impressed with rollerblading is like being impressed with some kid throwing down on a scooter. Which I think everyone would admit is somewhat lame despite how hard the kid is throwing down.

nicely put

falling on cement sucks, your get scraped up everytime, and a lot of skateboarders do handrails which i think is pretty risky on a skateboard

in my opinion skateboarding takes equal talent to skiing, the technicality (spelling) is ridiculous
