Skateboarding to skiing crossover

would skating help develop your style for skiing in the winter? I think it's gunna have a huge impact on my skiing this year. my skatings progressed a lot this summer for the first time in years. i think skating can change the way you look at skiing in the park, how you put lines together, ur flow kinda thing. any similar situations or thoughts out there?

I just picked up skateboarding this summer too, still not very good at it. I think it will really help improve my balance though, as for other aspects I'm not so sure.

rollerblading feels almost identical to skiing... i practice my style all summer and it makes me a much more stylish rider if i do say so myself...

helps alot with rails too...

it even taught me to be able to look over either shoulder going switch...

just saying...

buy some skates...

i mean like ive been skating for about 7 or 8 years now. The last 2 years i skated lots, just i never really learnt any new stuff, i kinda hit a plateau for learning.

but this year ive improved so much, doing individual shit, thinking of new stuff to do at my park no ones dones before. i have a style when i skate now. My creative mindset has been completely renewed to something different for skating. The way I look at certain tricks, or objects im tricking on. And i've gotten 400% better this summer, which is weird cause i havent really improved a huge amount in the past couple of years.

i wonder how much of an effect this will have in the park when im on my skis this season

Every outside thing you do impacts your skiing and your style. Soccer, skateboarding, baseball, work, etc. These are all experiences that shape your style, and you will adapt that style to whatever you do, skiing included.

So yes, skating will have an influence on your skiing this winter.

longboarding makes my skiing either super chill and laid back or really intense depending on where i am on mellower stuff and park i kinda relate my skiing of the chill side of longboarding, its all about having flow

there are so many similarities between sking and skateboarding. more so than i think blading even tho position wise its identical. think about it. to turn a 360 on skis is way harder than on a board the same way basic tricks on a skateboard are ten time more difficult than basic blading tricks. and also there are way more hot girls who blade than skate in the same way there are way more hunies who board than ski. for me skatng definatly helps.

Anything you do outside of skiing will give you a new perspective on how to look at things when you do get on the snow. Skateboarding would definitely help with park skiing, and I'm sure it'll even make you see new things on the mountain too. I mountain bike in the summer, and I know my skiing is affected by it just as my biking feeds off skiing.

GL you been skating around the EL at all?  We have a crew of very medicore skaters that sesh all the time.

Ya a little bit, i'm still pretty bad tho haha I just started skating when I came up to school this year. My roomie BMX's alot tho, he's really sick.

You know, I've never really thought about it, but there's some great truth behind that statement.

i think it would depend on how you skateboard. i dont skate, but in a lot of videos that i watch of my friends who arent very good but are decent at skating, they always have their hands up in the air and constantly flail, making them look pretty goofy.

Maybe the rails part. My friend has been skating forever and he started skiing last year and he slays rails. Maybe because he's used to that metal or something. He said he's to scared to ski switch and hit jumps but he eats shit everyday skateboarding. His arms are always scabbed

i started skiing with a long history of skateboarding, i think it really helped me with balance, also a lot more. it also helped me with snowboarding, and generally everything else to do with balance....

I'd say good for balance and makes you fell at home in a park. plus it would hone your reflexes and you use alot of the same kind of movements for skiing park

I've always found this funny about people who try to compare the logistics of skateboarding with skiing. I just don't see it... aside from the fact that you skate in the same position you'd jib on. Other than that, rollerblading seems to be the most commesurate summer alternative. Anyway, as the guy above stated, any time of physical sport will enhance one's skiing ability due to physical training but in terms of cross training, I still vouch for rollerblading over skateboarding. Just my .02.

Sure, but skating is way more based on balance, just like skiing than those other sports. Skating will help you much more than soccer, for example.

i don't know bro i guess its subjective. but all the kids at my mountain who rip on both board and skis agree. i think a ski 3 takes more commitment.

skateboarding is funnn. its a lot harder to do anything than in skiing and i think it really helps with balance. i find a lot of it has the same vibe to it

Everyone I know feels the other way.

Based purely on physics it is harder to do snowboarding. Based on personal experience it is harder to do snowboarding. I guess that is subjective but I would still say that it is harder on a snowboard. Committing to a FS 3 is hard to do on a snowboard. It really doesn't matter I guess, never heard someone say spinning skis was harder then a board before though.

You misunderstand the point of my statement then.

Everything you do contributes to everything else you do. Skating will help your skiing in one particular manner (balance per say) while soccer helps your skiing in another way (cardio and leg strength).

surfing helps my skiing a lot.. it really helps gain control over your core and center of balance and knowing where that pivot point is

Ryno is dead on.

any sport be it skate, bmx, surf, longboard, and even soccer contributes to your ability and style.

the way you throw tricks, visualize, your timing(specially with rollers, bmx is good for that, I used to do it alot when I was younger), balance etc. all of those sports are good, keeps you active too.

skating will definetly help your style, and overall skiing ability, keep it up and you will see improvements in both.
