Skate/surf shops hating skiers?

i was in "BC surf n' sport" Boulder, a skateboard and snowboard apparel shop talking with my buddy (who works there) and his female manager as i fill out a job application. somewhere in the conversation the word "skiing" leaves my mouth and from there they both take turns bitching me out and insulting skiing (and skiers) as completely unworthy in a shop like theirs. after that they sorta both just turned around an ignored me and the rest of my questions regarding the application. (my friend's a bit of a douche sometimes but this sorta surprised me). does this ever happen to any skiers out there?

in the eyes of a hippie surfer skiers are the man. The man being the bad person they think of racers and 1980 hollywood ski movies and south park, if your going to pizza when you should have french fried your going to have a bad time.

I was in the Santa Cruz Boardroom last summer and on the rack with all the new surf boards for sale was a pair of beater Chronics. Not for sale, no reason for them to be there, but I thought it was neat.

i woulda smacked my friend like a bitch and told the bitch to shut her fuckin mouth

but thats just me

I would like it if the one in boulder or any other bc's added skiing to there products and stuff, I think it would attract a lot more skiers.

My local surf/board shop posts shit on FB all the time nonchalantly dissing skiing.

I can't help but laugh at anyone who thinks their sport is superior, whether its skating vs blading or skiing vs boarding. Anyone who actually cares what you slide down the hill on is a prick and probably isn't fun to be around.

you were at a skate shop CHAIN and you were filling out an application. there are a few things wrong with this, im fairly certain that no one working at that store had to put in an application. those kinds of stores usually dont hire some mall rat looking for a cool job at a "skate shop", no offense, but you were in the wrong place. they carry snowboards, they all skateboard, what did you expect?

1st. there is absolutely an application containing their logo with questions, references, experience etc. i was there when my buddy filled his out in december2nd. the girl (before this had even hapaned) told me that i was one of the 3 out of 17 applicants who skated at all, and was wearing ANY skate/snow/surf apparel when they came in. (i had a "creature" shirt)

3rd. i'm not a mall rat. not even close

4th. i didn't "expect" any response to the word "skiing" simply leaving my mouth, but i got one and it was fairly rude.

PS. i am THE primary filmer for like half of the skateboarders who work there. I aint some "mall rat looking for a cool job"

I thought they were purple afterbangs?

Either way the fucking douchebags who hate on skiers can hate all they want, just proves their jealousy. Next time someone does that ask them how fun it is to tour on split board vs dynafits. I like my snowboard friends a lot and typically ride with 4 people total (2 of each) and we all get along good.

Also wtf did you expect in boulder?

My friend that I skate with hates on skiing pretty hard. But lightheartedly for the most part. He just thinks that skiiers have no steeze and that we are the equivalent of rollerblading in the world of snowsports.

This kind of attitude from people really sucks. We have indirectly dealt with it here and there trying to work with shops that are more "board sport" shops. But the rift is dying off and more and more people are coming around to realize everyone is out doing the same thing for the same reason regardless of whats attached or not attached to their feet.

Yah my friends who are snowboarders have done this. They only really do it badly when we are in snowboard shops just so they can seem "cooler" in front of the shop owner or worker. So fucking annoying cause i never see skiers doin that to boarders.

All my classmates at my school think they are the shit when it comes to snowboarding. They have dissed skiers many times. We went on a class trip to my mountain about 3 months ago. There was this really annoying kid who was talking alotta shit. This is the same kid who's brothers own a local skate shop. He told my one friend that he was a lying load of bullshit. When we got to the mountain, the kid was being annoying and everything. He questioned why we were in the park. He told my friend he couldn't do shit. After that my friend started throwing down backflips, pretz 270s, 900 mutes, blind 4s out etc. Even I had never seen him kill it like he was. The kid then proceeded to try a backflip. Landed on his tailbone and broke the binding on his board. He didn't hurt himself, but his ego was crushed.

This bitch at Zumiez tried to convince me to buy a snowboard because they were on sale, then I told her I skied. So she was like oh you should just quit skiing and buy a snowboard, you can actually do tricks on a snowboard, it's like skateboarding. Obviously she's never been to a ski area before...

Aha yeah, I love this vibe. Almost got creepy this winter though. Was loading up to go jibbing one day and some guys in a car with a few sets of XC skis strapped to the roof kinda slowed down on the street, looked at me, and shot me the point, wink, and smile, drove off. You know, kind of like this:

Ha, no idea what I was even supposed to think of it though. XC skiing is pretty fun to do in some down time though, so I can respect that. So I am sort of stoked that the feeling is mostly mutual in the area.
