Ska8/ski: harder to be good at?

apples and oarnges, if your starting at scratch though(no skiing ever), you would be a good skateboarder way before a good park skier

i think with skiing you need bigger balls and you need to be better at acrobatic stuff, and with skateboarding you need to be good at doing stuff really precise and stuff, so overall i think skiing might be a little harder cause youve got to get over the fear of those huge jumps and then do the tricks and stuff. while with skateboarding you dont do as big of stuff.

 
i'm a pretty good athlete it'd take me a day or two to nail a new trick at the park (skiing) but some of the shit the skateboard pros are doing these days like that primo shit is impossible. the flat ground those guys can do deserves the maddest of props. I think a good skateboarder who can pimp urban shit well is more disciplined than a ski pro. Technicality is obviously essential to skateboarding and the amount of time a pro spends on his board is a testament to their patience.

 
yeah some of the stairs those skaters do is really crazy but with the stuff people are doing on chads gap and all of the backcountry shit you need to be alot braver for skiing. like if you fall down a 15 stair you could mabye brake something but with the stuff seth and those guys do you could get seriously messed up or die. but yeah you have to do your tricks alot more precise than skiing.

 
im gonna say skateboarding is harder. my buddy justin started skking this year, and could 180 to fakie his 3rd day, and is doin the small sides in the park now regularly after 9 or 10 days. skateboarding...to be good at it you've gotta do some crazy stuff

skating, think about kickflipin a like 20 stair or bluntin a 15 or somthing, or airing like 10 ft out of a half pipe, and never beign attached, skating would be way harder

skating is more like golf while skiing is like rally racing, golf is a little harder than racing but when you add the danger of racing to it racing would be about the same or a little harder.

 
Im sick and tired of these "What's harder?" and "What's Better?" posts. Are you so dependent on other people's opinions that you cant even make up your own damn mind about a question that is idiotic in the first place. If skiing or skateboarding isnt hard enough for you, then make it harder, throw bigger harder tricks off bigger jumps. Don't go running off saying that one of two totally different sports is harder than the other, and at the same time saying that some athletes are superior to others. Stop getting absorbed in the opinion of the popular people and go ski dammit.

I find this post to be ignorant and insane. I will give it to the tech aspects of skating are tougher than skiing. But u said u can do any skiing trick in 2 days.

Sure maybe a 3 or a striaght rail Lets see the switch rodeo 630 to rail then chief or a switch 9 over chads!!

If our sport is so easy for u athletic type..but u said the pros in skate boarding are doin some insane shit. U need to watch a ski video dude. Ski pros are goin off the chains as of late!! Dont discount the skill involved in many many skierS!! It can be just as much as an art form as skating!!

ya well hes the only one who actually does that. i guess you need different sort of balls skiing than skateing; skiing u need big speed and large height balls, in skateing (street skateing atleast) you need ill fuck my self up on that there ledge balls

i think its harder to do a cork 5 over a 110 foot table then it is to double kickflip a 10 stair.

In skiing its way easier to get good so you can impress everyone except people who actually ski park because there are so many other good kids. In skatebaording if you skate alot you'll get better and there aren't as many really good kids

skateboarding is so much harder to get good at. I could skate everyday and I guarentee I still wouldnt become a pro skater. Now, if i could ski everyday in the perfect park conditions and never hurt myself its possible. So many good kids in boston throwin shit like switch 3flips down huge sets, blunts to shuv it outs, kickflip-nosemaual-nollie 3flip out.... but there still probably not gona go pro.

Yeah the DC video is so crazy. Danny Way does like a perfect cork 7 and 5 over a like 60 foot gap. But he is so far ahead of everyone in skateboarding. They had a big air thing like that and the best someone did was a 3 over like a 30 foot gap. Thats still insane, but Danny Way is like dominating skateboarding

take a random skater, throw them on ski and tell them to do a cork 9 true tail in the pipe and take a random skier and tell them to go do a kickflip to nose manual to heelflip out and i bet neither will get that trick for a long damn time.

it can depend on a lot of things. for example i can barely stand on a skateboard but im a pretty good skier and ill try some scary stuff.

plus the bug factor is alot different. like a 20 stair in skating is pretty damn big but on skis your could do all kinds of tech shit on it or instead go do the rail with like 15 kinks.

and a 120 foot gap on skis is trickable but like 5 guys have done stuff over a 60 footer on skateboards

pro rollerbladers take the most risks though. theyre fucking insane. sure rollerblading is easy, but they stuff that they do on rollerblades is NOT. its discustingly grossly hard.

 
i tried skating a couple of times that shit is actually hard as hell.. but if u have never done either then i would def. say skiing would b harder to learn, for the simpole risk factor

skiing is way easier. ive only been skiing for 3 or 4 years and im getting pretty ok. skateboarding for waaay longer and still suck

skiers go much bigger...but it takes a millionX more guts to do big shit off of 20 stair sets because if you fuck up..it hurts so bad...most people try crazy stuff on skis whenever theres a good pow day where the ground is forgiving...like many have said ^^^^, skating is more technical. skating is fun but its so frustrating how long it takes to learn stuff and get consistent at it...its so much easier to get consistent at skiing. Skating gives you more options though..especially if you live somewhere with a lot of stuff to skate
