Sizing it up, backcountry powder Mojo riders

Been debating how short i can go on the Head Mad Trix Mojo.

6' tall and weight 175, but with mountaineering pack and gear plan on ringing in at 190ish.

166 too small for typical backcountry, or do i need to step it up to the 176? Heard with the 186 that one needs to concentrate more to placing the skis..

Really appreciate some insight guys.

thanks - by the way, here is a sick vid, sure you have all seen it, but a little treat

def. 186. thats not even a choice.

They're both dumber than bricks... I don't care how hot they are, I wouldn't bone them even if they kept their damn mouths shut. I'd probably get a nasty case of sexually transmitted stupidity.

I have been acustomed to riding 170's, so i am somewhat hindered at stepping it up to 186, probably be a bit more to handle wouldnt you think? Why are you guys adament about the 186, really make that much of a difference from a 176?

dude your 6 feet tall????!!!!! I am 5' 10' and I rock 180's in the park, so pimp the 186's like it aint no thang...

This will not be in the park... this is backcountry most of the way, and occosional goomers, so being in some fairly deep powder, im am worried about the longer lengths when getting in the trees. just having a confunked time trying to figure this out...

if your in pow yuo gotta get the 186, you will float so much better and stick landings easier too, don't think that you won't be able to handle them. you will get used to it in one day

well see ussally in bc people go long bec then you have more surface area and float more... i would say 186 i mean its not that much of a jump if your a compitant skier at most i dont see it taking longer that a 1/2 day to get used to that lenght difference

i rock 185 b3's through trees and they get through alright and they have a longer running edge so the 186 should be fine, you just have to get used to them. go with the bigger ones, by the way im the same height as you

Ya, you'll have no problems. I jumped to 193's this year and got used to them after 2 runs. You'll notice it in the trees though. You're style of skiing in the trees will adjust though, depending on how much you ski. You'll get used to it though. Sometimes you can't go as fast but that's only if the trees are really tight.

Go big or go home

186 should be your choice, if you want to enjoy your skiing.

Man I'm 5'5, live in Steamboat, and my bc skis(nordica beast 12's) are the 177's and I would not go shorter.

i know that it's not the mojo's, but if you're really worried about the extra length, get something with a swallowtail.

Ya if your 6 feet tall the 186 seems like the best idea but whatever you feel comfortable skiing on should be your choice.

Dude go with what you think is best, I bet the 176 would be fine, its a good ski. Most of the guys on this site strut their whole 'don't be a pussy! I'm 5'3 and I ride a 195' shit. A. Most of the time I doubt it. B. They would be a better skier if they skied the right length for them and not 10cm longer to be cool.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

have you considered anyother skis?

like 179 madiens or pistols?

182 motherships?

182 scratch bc's

4frnt msp's 180

there alot of skis out there. i'll agree that the 186 mojo ae a big stiff ski. maybe if you get something softer you can go 180 cause it be easyier to handle, the longer length will give you more float, and better stability espically at higher speeds. and are nessary if you want to do any drops or anything like that. Unless for some reason your stuck on atomic, i tihnk that there a whole bunch of sweet backcountry sticks out there that will fit you alot better for what you want to do. 179-185 range and a softer flex overall.

do you even want a twin?

Me & my friend rode 175 all year last year. I felt it was a bit short on really deep snow so now I'm on 186s that're more center mounted than the 175. Not really ideal for powder but I'll be using them all over the mountain so I wanted something that can do everything.

I say the 176 would be soooo much better in the trees... but it all depends. Open power 186 for sure.

ive ridden my bros 185 pocket rockets in the trees, in some pretty tight trees i might add, and had absolutley no problem maneuvering them. 10 cm is nothing in terms of length and trying to work your way through the woods. that shouldnt be an issue for the woods.

i'd say that if you actually ski more pow than groomer, go longer. the 176 would be decent for all round, but would lack a little float in the deep stuff.

I have the 176's. I'm hoping for them to be the best all around ski I've ever had. It seems most of you talk out of your ass. Have any of you actually spent a season on them? If so, what do you have to say about them.

I'm 5'9' and riding 182 motherships this season up from 169 1080's last year. Are you kidding me? if your going BC never go shorter, the extra 20 cm will not hender your skiing it can only make it better. and if your worried about trees, i don't know what to tell you but i ride with friends that have 180+cm skis and they never seemed to have to many problems.

186. I don't know why you'd even consider 166s.

exact same idea as jd may, why you would ever consider 166;s is beyond me, 176 is he low end of where you should be thinking

Her's all yo uneed to look at. If you want a ski that is more stable especially at high speeds go with the 186. if you want somethin ghta's a little more manuverable got with the 176. I really like my 185 PRs.
