last year i rode the 177 volkl walls, which was a step up from the 169 karma's i had the year prior. i am currently around 160lbs just shy of 6'0. i am keeping my ghettos from last season which are at a 181, but i dont know if i should get the 09 walls in the 177 or 185..185 just seems tooo tall. i was debating on those and the alpha 1's by armada, or just buy the armadas in a 182 and get the walls for my brithday next month in either a 177 or a 185, or does anyone prefer that i'd like the alpha's more?? (might wait to get them at end of season or next year altogether..dontknow)

i just moved to CO and looking to progress in keystone/breck/copper's infamous parks.

other than that i am basically 60/40 park/allmountain

thanks.

I think you could handle the bigger ski, but i think it's a lot about personal preferance. i would wait until next year for the new armadas, give them a year to see how they work(maybe demo them this year to see if you like them.)

forsure that's what i was thinking..i might go with the 177, who knows. i have a 181 and i feel thats a perfect length just the 185...SHIT VOLKL

Personal preference is the most important thing. I don't think the 177s will be too small for you, but they will feel a bit shorter than your Ghettos especially if you don't have them mounted true center. Unless you plan on gaining 15lbs in the next couple of months, I think you'll find the 177s to be more versatile in the park.

Hope this helps.

yeah, i have my ghettos on addicted which is like -2 from true center i believe, and my walls are true since they sym.

if you have 181 ghettos at -2 then a 185 wall will look exactly the same to you.. essentially you will just be adding 4cm to the tail.. the nose on the ghetto and a 185 wall will be the same.. obviously you will be fine on either ski.. one is a little short and the other a little long.. i have 169 walls (short) and 181 reno rockers (longer).. so 177 and 181 might be ok.. but if you will be skiing the huge jump lines then i would go longer..

wellim not sure on the -/+ for the binding placement...they are just mounted at 'addicted.' (not sure if this changes anything)

obviously i would mount the walls at true cent. so would this mean im only adding 2cm tip and 2cm tail compared to the ghettos, *i'm thinking if i decide to use the walls for more all mountain / soe park days and the ghettos for park i should get the 185 and if i go vice versa (mind you i will be hitting park for with both skis, only i like softnes more on ghettos) maybe i should get the 177 walls for more maneuverability in the park...?

karma to helpers with helpful answers, thanks guys.

do u hit jumps alot? i would rock the 185s if i was you meng. unless u just hit rails. i ride 181's for park and im 5'9" but i can do almost everytrick i can on my ar6's as my 188 jj's. you can probably handle it but it's deff prefference. if you hit jumps alot the bigger size will help you alot, if you're good enough and comfterable enough i would go with the bigger ones not to mention they're steezier bigger.

i hit decent sized jumps but im not really spinning off tem or flipping or anthing, mostly 180s with some grabs. 360's off the smaller jumps - im talking like the 10ft tables at my park at home, but i looking ot progress, 185s still?

if you are thinking about getting the alpha's, (or any other rockered ski) i would recommend reading shane mcconkey's article in powder magazine's september issue. the pioneer of rockered skis explains how to size them for yourself. basically it says that you start with your all mtn. park ski and generally you would go a little smaller with a fat ski. but he explains that with rockered skis this is not so, because of the shape it helps for them to be longer. he classifies rockered skis as either full rocker, medium rocker (alpha would be in this category) or mini rocker and gives examples of each. he says that from your standard fat ski size (shorter than your normal ski) you should at 10 cm for a full rocker, 5 cm for a medium rocker and ski a mini rocker at exactly the same as your standard fat ski. he also explains why, which is basically because rockered skis have a shorter running surface and thus are already nimble (so it isn't necessary to buy them shorter )and so what you are looking for is "balance platform" in the ski and this comes with a longer length.

tough call dude, if you're going to be ripping all mt. alot then i would go for the bigger ones. but do you still have the 177's?? if you're just getting into park you probably want to go with the 177's, but if you already got a pair you might wanna look into them new armadas they look pretty fun. and if they fuck up armadas warrenty policy is really good. but if the walls you have now are really messed up then you're in a pickle. but i dont think you're going to be disapointed anyway you go. but cuz you're a 160 lbs you probably wanna go with the 177's untill you get better.

yeah, 160lbs @ 5'11-6'0 i sol my 177 walls from last season and jst have the 181 ghettos now mtd. at addicted, ill do some rails maybe but like 5-10% of the time, more all mtn and jump skier.. what do you guys think still, i know im in a pickle and what has been said has helped me but i feel since 181 ghettos and 185 walls may feel the same, maybe i should get the 177s again to start up the park with...but like i said, more into jumps over rails...i do some boxes though but seldomly.

if ur jumping the bigger skis will be nicer, but harder to throw big spins/flips...if i were u i would go for the 182 alpha ones...they will feel more like your ghettos as far as size goes. cant comment on the performance of the alpha one though havnt done much research on em. i think they would be a really fun ski to play around on and shred.

i think u will still be happy with either one though man. how old are you? if you are 17 or even 16 i would probs go with the longer size since you will (hopefully) get stonger and heavier in the future to handle the bigger size.

and if you are jumpin keep in mind you want a stable ski that you can still throw around and be able to make corrections in mid air if you are in a squirly position and need to save yourself.

e heard that the 185's really measure out to 181. but 4cm isnt that much of a difference just go with the bigger ones.
