Six Flags Park agrees to $1.3 million settlement

The Great Escape, a Six Flags resort in Lake George, New York about 50 minutes from where I live recently agreed to settle a class action lawsuit over a 2008 virus caused by their water park. I went to that same water park in the hotel for a weekend back in 2007. Guess I missed out on making some bank! If you live in the surrounding New York areas there's a good chance you've been here before too. Thought it was a good read check it out!

Because I'm sure it's the water park's fault that people got sick, and not the already infected people who brought the virus to a place where it could spread easily. Just like when someone gets hurt in a terrain park, it's obviously the resort's fault and not the idiot who launched off the kicker going way too fast (or too slow).

This is what is wrong with America. Even though Six Flags probably would have won the suit, it was more expensive to fight these scum lawyers in court than to pay out a sum for them to shut the fuck up. This is the kind of shit that causes parks like this to close shop, and then people like you will complain that there's "nothing to do". You should reevaluate.

Now pardon me while I go to go sue Mexico for giving me Montezuma's revenge.

Chemicals should kill bacteria and germs, but people are fucking gross and carry god knows what on their bodies. But yeah, I agree. People need to start owning up to their mistakes/actions instead of petty blame game lawsuits.

I'm glad you're friends with yourself.

Greedy fuckers tryina make a buck by suing. It's such shit that this stuff even happens because it puts companies like Six Flags in such a bad place: fight and win in court -> bad name, or settle and pay out -> less bad name.

oh damn. I can only see four flags from mine. but one is the Peace Tower flag so I guess that makes up for it.

I agree with what your saying about people suing about stupid shit and ruining other people's and company's lives.

But in that article they quoted “We maintain the illness did not originate on our property,” and I'm sure it didn't. Some gross ass country bumpkin probably had the flu or some sort of illness and decided it would be socially acceptable and polite to still use the water park while being ill. But also... It's a water park. It has to stayed maintained, and if the chemicals they were using can't eliminate the bacteria carrying the virus that was in their water, and about 650 people who were there during the same time get really sick from it then it is definitely their fault these people got sick. They failed to maintain their water park to a standard that could eliminate a virus in the water. Don't you think they owe these people an apology/reparations?

There is a reason you aren't supposed to go into public pools/waterparks when you're having a herp outbreak. Open sores are no good in places like that!

thats a great law system we got here isnt it.. havent been to great escape in years.. guess i wont be going back anytime soon to wait in line for boring rides and get sick.

it's water for swimming in, not a fucking concentration camp. would you rather get the flu or have your skin burned off

Alright well I'd rather not go to a water park where the pools aren't sanitized enough to the point where 650 people get sick. So I'd rather go to a water park that's actually clean.

These people aren't really making much of a profit off this anyways considering a weekend at this hotel plus a ticket for the hotel's water park, plus I'm assuming most of the people went to the amusement park also, not to mention gas money and any spending they did on the trip, they're basically getting a refund for their whole trip that made them sick in the end.

Yeah, You gotta admit it was really up to the park to maintain the PH levels in the pool. Which sounds like they really didn't do that good of a job of.

The lodge sucks anyways, but I guess thats not the point. America, home of the free, land of the bitch ass niggas

this one doesnt either.

i dont think they've done anything different to this park since i was a kid except add "Six Flags" to the name and make people pay for parking.

obviously there was a maintenance issue. otherwise every swimming pool operators would be sued once in a while.

if there are more than 100 people in a pool, its almost safe to say that at least ONE of them has some kind of flu, open wound or other unhygienic thing going on.

thats what chlorine is for. nothing to do with having your skin burned off.

Well I actually work with industrial-scale high pressure water filtration systems as a career, and I actually produced some of the custom filter housings that went into the Six Flags NE waterpark. The amount of water running through those places is mind blowing, but yes I would have to agree that there is massive potential for it to just become a mega-sized petri dish if there's no UV/other sterilization precautions taken in the filtration line regardless of what kind of mechanical filters you may have. If they failed to do that, they're basically just giving every person there's germs a chance to multiply ad putting everyone at risk. I'm honestly really surprised that they wouldn't have had that though, and 1.6 Mil is a drop in the bucket for them. Slap on the wrist, then they'll make the upgrades they should have anyways. I wouldn't get too fired up over this.

Well they did a shitload of stuff to Riverside after they bought it, but thank God they still have all the old coasters like the thunderbolt and black widow. I'm more scared on the old coasters simply because I know I'm safe on the newer ones no matter what crazy shit they're doing.

You can always tell the locals because they still call it Riverside haha... Without fail.

hahaha I was just telling ashley the other day that when I was younger we were always at Riverside....and then they installed metal detectors and my parents were like hell to the nah

I accidentally went on "Latino Day" once, I shit you not. I was suddenly stoked on the metal detectors. You ARE just across the river from El Ciudad Enojada, y'know.

Yeah I never dated a hot latina again either. Holy fuck if looks could kill I would have died a thousand deaths that day. Latino men hate on you so hard if you're with a good looking spanish chica. It didn't help I was one of like 6 white people stupid enough to go that day. Did I mention I hate reggaeton?

I hit a 15 foot jump this winter in Vermont and almost died so it's going to have to be a lot smaller than that. Hey after my lawsuit goes through with Mount Snow I'll be able to buy my own private island and put a Newschoolers ski mountain on it.

A lot of you guys are missing the point. It's not people bringing in illness, its the park not maintaining their pools/chlorine levels. Of course they are gonna get sued.
