Sitting on the back off you skis for speed and aerodynamic purposes

I used to race and the racing tuck (if you do it right) is the fastest tuck where you have any control at all. Sitting down on the skis gives you no control.

Baggy clothes shouldn't make a difference if you wear them for both tucks.

i think the only way it is faster then a racer tuck is if it is slushy/ heavier snow in which you have to lean bak a lil bit in order too keep up ur speed

when skiing on warm day, like ~40 degrees, the snow is more water saturated. A good LF or HF wax will help, but just sit on your tails and you can feel that there is less friction between your skis and the slush.

and to the guy who ahsnt tucked all year: go find bigger jumps. sometimes it is necessary

the reason those guys who straight line it down the hill in a tuck is because ure more forward and ull accelerate faster down the hill then on the back of ure skis but for short distances like to a jump sitting on ure skis is faster because ull be less wind resistant then a tuck and its better to be arodynamic then forward that short of time

surface area guys, the more you spread out your weight the faster you go. Why do bigger guys use bigger skis? racers on 215's? sitting back your weight is back, not evenly distributed across the surface area of you skis. If you want to go faster, buy longer skis and learn how to ski.

This just in your a fucktard...

a tuck forward is more aerodynamic than sitting on your tails because the air moves over you smoothly and consistantly vs. on your tails air is hitting you all at once so in conclusion shut the fuck up

having your weight further back is not going to give you more speed, its kinda like boat hull, if the back is dragging its very in efficient. if you load up the front of you boots and skis you can obtane much better speeds, kinda like a boat after it planes off

ure a fuckin retard i used to race and body miller and some of the worlds best have done that threw the finishline of a world cup race u fagget ure the one who doesnt kow what hes tlaking about

and ure right the wind hits u harder when ure on the backs of ure skis but only half the wind hits you

you're the dumfuck.

Bode still has his weight forward. I used to race, too. He may have been out of control when he did that. No good racer does that. Look at every single one.

so basiccly while leaning on the back of his ski boots sitting on the tails of his skis hes forward?and he wasnt out of control, u oviously sucked fuck face

who cares. you dont need to be in complete absolute control when youre riding to a booter, and if you are a decent skiier, you should be able to maintain control on your tails. its not hard or bad or anything like whoever made this thread makes it out to be

no.

I said bode may do it a couple of times. READ MY POST!!!

He may not have been forward that time, but he tries to be.

And I do wax my skis every weekend. Not everyone's a park rat.

is this not common sense? You can usually get better pop when you're sitting on the back of your skis, but you've got a waaaay bigger chance of hurting your knees and it's a lot less aerodynamic.

I can actually turn and butter a 180 whilst sitting on my tails..and go backwards while sitting on them.. kinda scary but you can do it... racing is gay

Right on. Since i didn't really grow up skiing or racing, I never waxed my skis, thinking it didn't do much. I finally got them waxed this spring, and holy shit was I wrong. Freshly waxed skis with the right wax fucking fly.

he's talking about being on a flat ski, not skidding out. Yes, you have to be on edge when turning or you'll skid through the turn and lose speed. Obviously a flat ski is going to move faster than an edged ski when not turning.

what bode does is to take advantage of the turn shape and overall lay out of the course to gain speed, but what does bode do half the time, dnf. so its a gamble that can pay off.

as for the original post. very well said. especialy about how leaning foward gains more speed. ie more areodynamic, and more control/speed retainment while turning, although you may not need to turn in a drop in. being foward elimnates the need to pull your self up and set up your balance for your jump, which while in the process of getting up you do shave off speed.

sit directly on your tails or don't sit back at all. Im telling you, that back-seat skiing is nothing but bad.

Cheap wax is better than nothing, you can speed check if it gets to fast, eliminates alot of the need for all this tucking conversation.

" flat bases will go faster than on edge...its the pressure thing again"

Nope... Tomba came to a hill around here a few years ago and raced the Nastar coarse. He set the hill record. The top local guy went back up and tucked the same run and was still slower than Tomba. A good skier will generate speed exiting each carve, thus going faster than just tucking. All this is under 'normal' skiing conditions (no speed skiing).

when i do it, i lean back and forward to stretch before i hit a jump, call me crazy, but it helps you reach alot better for a grab.

i wouldnt say you necessarily go faster, but ive never had speed problems doing it

id rather sit on the back of my skis and lose a fraction of a second when comming into a jump or whatever then doing a racer tuck and looking like im mentally retarded.

I wouldn't really care, except that I've already torn my ACL once, so I avoid sitting back on my skis.

you realy dont turn when sitting on your tails so thats kinda unimportant. but the idea of doing a racer tuck to cork 9 is appealing so i think i may start doing it.
