Single speed mtb?

Haha. I got you good, yes I did.

No, just wondering if anyone else rides a single speed mountain bike here. A lot ride bmx, fixies, downhill, etc.

yes, i have a single, it's a crappy kona unit with a psylo fork but i wanted something just to keep in shape so i invested 400 bucks in it and it's greatwhat gear do you ride?i ride a 32-19

I'm running 32x18. I like mine a lot. I ride a Gary Fisher Rig from a few years back. Just switched out the Reba Air to a rigid fork. It's a lot of fun.

Nope. I do ride a lot of MTB though. I just don't like single speed. Some of my friends however, have single speed DJ bikes.

sick, i ran a 32x17 for a little but then fucked up my leg really bad so i went 2 easier to relieve a little pressurei really want a carver which is 29" front and 26" rear, insanely sick bike

I rode the Trek 69er for a bit and ended up going back to a full 29er. They are really fun for tight single track but I find that I can move the 29er just fine and like the feel of the big wheel in the back better than the 26.

The 69ers are sweet bikes though.

I understand single speed DH bikes and jumpers but what's the point of having a single speed trail/XC bike?

i hate the 69'er but the frame design on the carver sets you up so you get the 29er ability to roll over anything but you get the more efficient 26er in the rear so it's easier to get your bike going. i find with full 29 it's slower to gain momentum and the 96'er gets rid of thati found i mostly rode my geared xc bike last year but i took the single out a little just to grind and build up my fitnessoverall i don't like the unit at all, i hate steel frames, but it's good for getting in shape

Well first of all it's a lot of fun.

You know that free feeling you get when you ski? It's like that while riding a bike. No gears to shift, nothing to worry about. Maintenance is low because there is no derailleur to adjust. You have to get in a groove in order to ride one. You obviously can't shift gears on hills so you have to either always put the hammer down or take it easy.

Ya i ride a single speed Norco 4hun with a pike 454 for dirt jumping. Shit is so much more solid then riding with derailer and you break way less shit.

dude

i would never do that

that would be so harsh

for like up hill or downhill

it would only be anygood for flat surfices i think

single speed is for street riding

i personaly dont own one but my uncle and my freinds dad do have them and they are very fun. personally i ride a specailized rockhopper from about 2-3 years back, im not tooo big into biking but i love it and want to do more of it.

Aren't you the kid with the $6000 Giant road bike that uses it to ride around town for fun?

I'm not a weight wienie at all, in fact the bike weighs around 25.8 pounds while the full suspension, 26inch race bike that i used to use weighs in at 24.5

To the kids who say its useless for anything but street: You can't hate until you've tried.

Also, uphill is hard yes. Thats kind of the point of the singlespeed, to make you work. In my mind it's a pay off though. Downhill is a lot of fun. The 29inch tires are almost like having some suspension on the kid. They role over everything and I have the wheels mounted with 2.55 tires which add some cushion on rocks and such.

Flat surfaces actually suck on single speed. You can only go so fast before you're legs start pumping out crazy fast revolutions.

fail, singles suck on flat or slight downhill because you can't go fast, your legs start spinning wildly once you get past the gear capacity

i ride singlespeed. for djing and urban stuff. i love seeing a singlespeed dual suspension, shits so whack but so clean.
