You know how they never tell you what state they are in, but they like always try to make you guess what state they are in? Well I finally figured it out! They live in Utah. Here's my reasoning, you know how Jebediah Springfield led all the pioneers to Springfield? It's just like Brigham Young/Joseph Smith leading the mormons to Utah. Also there was a halloween episode where all the dead people came back, and one was Butch Cassidy, and I'm pretty sure his hideout was in Utah, and he died here.

Also remeber that episode where they are casting fallout boy for that radioactive man movie? When they are looking for a place to film there's a huge ad that says FILM UTAH, and they say something like "Thats it!" then point right next to it and it says film springfield. Also there's another halloween episode where those 2 alien guys come to the simpson's house, and homer says "great.. mormons". And there is a town Utah actually called springfield (it might be springville actually I'm not quite sure), also the town next to springfield in the simpsons is called ogdenville, and there's a city here called ogden. Yeah, this is just my specualtion, what do you think?

Oh yeah, 2 more things. They also go skiing, which is in utah, and the olympics came to their city in an epsiode. The olympics came to utah in 2002. sooo......

I think that was meant to be like a joke, that they were sitcom actors from kentucky playing a family on TV.

the idea is nice, but i think the whole idea of having springfield as the town is becuase its such a common name. i can think of at least a dozen springfields, so my speculation is that its not meant to be one specific place in the U.S. but rather a common city to show how the simpsons somehow relates to normal people. in regards to the 2 aliens coming, mormons are all over the united states. they come to my door all the time and i get scared shitless.

abut the ogdenville thing, remember the monorail episode?

lyle

langley said he built monorails in ogdenville, north haverbrook and

some other town, and "boy it sur put them on the map" and he whips out

a map with ogdenville located close to arizona. also, she drives to north haverbrook, witch loks like its in the nabraska area. wether this is a clue or not who knows.

i think it might be springfield, oregon. Cause one of the guys who wrote it lived in Eugene at one point, which is right next to springfield. Eugene represents shelbyville, the nicer city right next door. But the guy who wrote it was also asked if springfield represented any town and he said no town in particular so it may just be made up.

the most conclusive evidence about where springfield is, is that in one episode (the spelling bee one i believe) they show a map of the US and over Illinios is a three eyed fish.

Actually.... Its springfield Oregon... the reason i know this is because Matty G the creator of the simpsons went to Lincoln Highschool in Down Town Portland Oregon... and in springfield their is a powerplant... its probibly a vary of different areas throughout the united states but im probibly 90% sure its oregon.

There is a whole web site devoted to this. The truth is that Springfield is any small town in the US no geography matches springfield or any of the names. It could really be in any state anywhere.

Their background artist, lance wilder went to my high school, and a bunch of places from my town are the inspiration for the simpsons like the school, town hall, moes tavern and library.

what about either west or east springfeild thats like 2 times the size of texas? how do you explain that... you knwo how i explain it.. ITS A FUCKING CARTOON! thats how i explain it

there is not a single city in the unitedstates that is next to the ocean and mountains, has a nuclear power plant, and has a damn. LE is right ITS A FUCKING CARTOON

the whole point of it was to make a generic town that could essentially be anywhere.

And think about it, everything had to be accessible, cause they didn't wanna make episodes like "the simpsons drive for 5 hrs to go skiing" so of course there's mountains. same with the ocean. It might be based on a certain area, but it's not meant to be that area.

but in one episode there was legal weed and they had a concert, and weed is only legal in california

its not legal anywhere dumbass and they were smoking medicinal weed, like i havnt seen that episode on like 2 years and i remeber that

wow. thats pretty sly of you and smart thinking

i think though that its just like a commonplace, generic town that has coincidences

here is the real answer

"The short answer is that Springfield does not exist. It doesn't have a real state, and the fact that it has no state is nothing more than a running gag. Springfield is more like "Anytown, USA". It's as if all of America was compressed into a single town, or a single state. Springfield is everywhere and nowhere."

Groening has said that the reason he chose the name because it is the one of the most common names for town's in the US. There are something like 71 Springfields in the US. Groening has also said that Springfield is a lot like Portland.

the comentators on one of the dvds said that the whole joke is that the real springfeild doesnt exist. there is no one city that they are hinting towards. matt groening did grow up in eugene and portland, or. in eugene there is a statue in the middle of the u of o campus that was the inspiration of the jebidiah springfeild statue. next to eugene is springfeild. the high school in eugene is called sheldon. (sheldon - shelbyville). matt went on to go to high school in portland and he had a science teacher who held his hands together and said "excellent". this was the inspiration of mr. burns. reverend lovejoy and mr flanders are named after the streets "lovejoy" and "flanders", two streets in downtown portland. the real springfeild dosent exist, but the inspiration came from oregon.

arite man calm down, no need to get angry...and medicinal weed is very much legal in california, u can look it up if u want

ok try this then. in the episode where the bushes move in across the street, lisa says "actually dad this is one of the 9 states George Bush claims residency"

is Utah one of these states?

Yes, but Springfield is is also by the ocean. I'm pretty sure the whole point is that it isn't really a place.

I have another thing that I just watched..

Homer stole cable and Bart was watching it late at night. The TV said, "Adult programming all day, everyday, except in Florida and Utah."

And then the TV started playing stuff that wasn't adult programming and Bart was like, "D'oh!"

Sooo.. if it wasn't playing adult programming it must have been Florida or Utah!

Wooh
