Simon dumont park at sundayriver

ice rink

that is why snowler blades are so popular on the ice coast

it's more ice skating than skiing sometimes...

I don't know if this will be good or bad for sunday river....

and please don't wish you lived on the east coast.

god it sucks right now

This is ABSOLUTELY good for the East Coast!
Jeez, Sometimes I wonder how many of you kids actually ski out here!
Building better parks on the EAST is ALWAYS a good thing.

i ski on the west coast, that i prefer, but this, is obviously a good thing for the east coast scene, specially sunday river..

i was beginning to think that there would be no one in new england to even attempt to keep up with loon!
ne pass is gonna have two great parks now, cant wait!

.

as i said in the other thread..

I dont understand how you can claim sunday river as your home mountain and grassroots.. but then a few years ago at like X games 2006 he got paid by mount abram's (nearby to sunday river) to promote them as his home mountain.

fuck. that.

Really now? You sure? Mt. Abram doesn't make enough money to operate year to year, let alone pay Simon to rep their mtn.

I'm not a fan of Simon really, but this is good news for all who ski at Sunday River. A better park is never something to complain about.

positive.. this was a few years ago, i think the first time he got gold at winter X in 2005.. and i'm also not sure exactly how much he got payed either.

A few things to address:
1) Bluntz4life - change your icon. Seriously. 2) This park is great for the East Coast. While most people forget where they come from, Simon doesn't. Say what you want, that he's getting paid by Sunday River, sell out, etc, Simon's going to bring another cool event to the East Coast. That's a good thing because I bet with that event will come media coverage, sponsors, and money - all things the East Coast ski community desperately needs3) They're BUILDING A BETTER PARK! Are you guys really that dumb? Stop complaining about people trying to make parks better because when they see thread comments like the ones in here (and they do read these threads, TRUST ME), how could they not get turned off.

Some of you guys are complete idiots and can not see the bright side of any situation. Quit being retarded and maybe try and be proactive about this.
Ex) Sunday River could use some better jumps and a park that flows a little better.

^^ Ya'll need to listen to that man. Another sick park in NE is better for EVERYONE. Another international comp on the east coast is good for EVERYONE. Stoked that Dumont is doing this, am I a fan of his? Nah, he's not one of my favorites. But this is a classy act by the man, and I applaud his efforts to bring some sick riding back to the EC. Well done Simon.

oh no i am definitely stoked to check it out.. but I have a feeling that it will just be a "re-designed" rocking chair park with some ridic features but with zero flow whatsoever, with EMPIRE banners and tags everywhere..

sunday river probably has the biggest budget for park of the whole east coast.. but i would not even put them top 3.. why? because although they have some real dope rail features, they set them up so shitty.. or atleast in rocking chair. to be honest, rocking chair pretty much sucks until late february.. it's usually sheer ice, with no flow at all.. and then you ski down and wait in line at barker for 10 minutes..

if they really want to have a dope park.. they have to sacrifice one of their dozens of amazing long and flowing trails.. if they put a park on dream maker then I would guarantee you it COULD be the best park in the east coast hands down.. a long flowing green trail with a top to bottom park that could easily be lapped by the north peak chair and gets sun all day? = unreal..

but instead they find it more important to use that trail for that perfect turn shit, when theres dozens of other trails for that.. but only a few that would make the perfect park..

I will admit that last year was a definite step in the right direction. the south ridge jib park was real fun and i'm sure it will be again this year.. but besides that, rocking chair certainly does not cut it for their premiere park.. so I will look forward with anticipation to the dumont park in hopes that it will fulfill this hype that sunday river creates every year for their park going into the season.

Its hard to build a great park in maine just cause of the wether and there snow. Ice froms fast and way to often. So it will be interesting to see what they are able to build. However, having skied there late feb last year i dont think there budget is the biggest on the east coast. My vote would be for Mountain Creek, NJ. They have a huge snow making budget and have devoted a entire peak and lodge to terrain park. They even let some kids loose in the lodge with spray paint so the entire place is tagged up it pretty sick. And they build some of the best features. The only problem i have is they are a little to boarder oriented with there stuff. But for sure with some skier in their design program and having so ski comps they would win best east coast park

i really liked their jump line two years. They were smaller ( i think) jumps but it was a killer line, and you could go past the lift to the lower little jib park. That was closer to flowey. And this year they really stepped up with south ridge jib park. There is no way this could be a bad thing, except maybe about there being a shitload of empire logos. Than again, the redbull and the oakley (i think) wallride were sick additions to the park this year. So would a well done empire feature really be that bad?
dude, a lollapaloza park would be the sickest shit ever. Think about it....

yeah lollapalooza would be sick but you could only have the bottom half or so be park, the top would be too steep and its also really windy.. but since its over at jordan it would open last and close first.. hence north peak being a sick place.

not so much because of the bigger and better resort it leads to more assholes who think they run the mt witch is very lame so in ways its good for the shops and resorts and stuff but for like locals its shitty

yeah i dont know.

i don't know if it's going to be totally open to public?

hopefully it is. i just feel like theres something weird sounding about it but idk.

nice new jumps would be awwesome.

and yes a nice warm hut off lazy river would be supreme

Definitely a sick step in the park direction. Dumont's homemountain claim-controversy is still annoying tho. I've definitely heard that rumour around the block for the past few years. Just as long as the park doesn't head in the same direction as Empire, I'll stay stoked.

I don't mean to sound cynical, but is he actually designing the park, or is his name just going to be on the park? Also, park on dreammaker would be epic. I'm pissed about the chondolla thing though because north peak is my favorite place to ski because it is usually pretty empty and the chondolla will make it crowded and less awesome. South Ridge Jib Park is sweet, but it would be nice if it wasn't on South Ridge, just because that lift is slow and a lot of times has really long lines.

it's cool, i'm stoked that mount snow is throwing down big time, that they refurbished the lodge and built a new shop, i'm just not too stoked thinking about how many people are gunna be there this season... no riding on weekends for me this year. hopefully this signature park along side mount snow and loon will bring some serious attention to the resorts in the north east that need some serious help and some more cash flow, however, i think it's just sunday river's attempt to compete with mount snow.

it can really only do good for sunday river's parks, and hopefully it will add a new park and not take rocking chair and redesign it... again

3 years from now when everyone on here is all over Dumonts nuts someone will bump this and you will all look like clowns.

They've already got a park dedicated to rails. So I honestly wouldn't care. Sunday River's rail features are the least of their worries. They've got a sick Red Bull One Hit Wonder and plenty of other features that they could set up nicely (if they're smart enough to do so this year.) And even then, I'm sure Dumont isn't completely ignorant. If he's smart, he'd know the demographic and he'd know that there should be some sort of rail feature. But thats just my two cents.

mount snows gonna take gthe lead in best park, who can compete with a park system like this,
