I see. Well, Volkl tends to make a stiffer ski than most company overall. I can't speak for any models in particular, but check around, I would bet money they have a comparable model to what you are looking for.
If looking at twins, the Karma is pretty stiff with an 87 mm waist, Scratch BCs are pretty stiff with a 98 waist... and that's all I got
Yep, volkl seems like a good option. I've skied Explosives for the last few years and grew out of them. I'd really like a ski that's not a twin and has NO park influences, which is why I'm having a hard time; because most of the skis I know about/have ridden are twins or park skis. thanks for the responses strum!
my explosives were 165, so they were softer. The prophets for next year are pretty damn stiff (they ahve extra titanium in them) so maybe I'm mistaken by saying prophets if they've been stiffened up for this upcoming season. Stiffness level, I'd like something around a Volkl 5 star.
Alright. Well I hope your a strong skier if you plan to use anything big and as stiff as a 5 star on the east coast, but heres a list of some skis you can begin with. Some may be way too much though. They're all fairly stiff to very stiff. Just wondering how big you are.
yep, it'll be my only ski (hopefully) and I ski bowls, trees, and groomers so It'll be my everything, every day ski. Smuggs will be the mountain of choice this year too.
The 1st and second row are going to be WORK in the trees.
BROs, Karmas, Titan 9s, and Mantras all do fairly well to very well. They performed in that order. The Titan 9s and BROs are fairly similar in the way they ski. Its just whether you was 99mm or 92mm waists. Mantras were my least favorite but some people love them. Karmas are fun, but I wouldnt consider them very good for ripping down bowls at speed.
beauty dude, thanks alot for the info. The Prophet 90's are my first choice, but I just wanted to see what else was out there to check out and the Bros and t9's definitly sound check out-able. Thanks again.
I cannot imagine that you are going to be skiing many bowls in the east coast...but the mantra's were by far the ski of the year...I would not trade mine for anything
So are you focusing on skis around 90mm in the waist then? If you liked the Prophet 90's and like stiff skis you would love Head Mojo 90's or the Extra Flex Kingswood Skinnies.
If you don't mind a bit narrower check out the Mordica Jet Fuels they're rediculous.
If you are considering mid 90 waists Look into some 4FRNT SuperModels, they aren't making them again next year but you can find some online for pretty cheap and they're stiff. The 180 has a 92mm waist and the 187 has a 97mm waist. I'm 6' 200lbs and as an everyday all mountain ripper the 180s were solid last year, of course I like bigger skis than that for at least half my days out here in tahoe but for you they would be a great one ski.
If you want Kingswoods I am setting up a group buy so I can get you a sweet deal, at least $100 off. www.kingswoodskis.com
K2 Apache Chief maybe???? Never ridden them so I can't really comment on the flex pattern. But they are fat, non twins that would be pretty sick all mtn. I bet. Oh yeah, Smuggies rocks
Cool...didn't know that. I'm trying to get my dad to pick up a pair of those. He had B4s last year and has ridden my Pistols and he really liked the SP. He doesn't really need a twin but loves the fatties. I bet he would love the Chief.
how do the chronic blends compare with the prophet 90s? baring in mind i do ski a lot of park depending on what mountain im at but prefer fat skis for all types of skiing anyway
they're softer than the 90's. I hated them because I skied them right after the 90's (which I LOVE) so I was a bit disappointed when I hopped on the blends and they were softer. Blends would be a great ski for all mtn and park skiing though; assuming you like mid-soft skis. Don't worry, they're not nearly as soft as the invaders.
ditto, loved the 90's and was like meh to the blends. If I had skied them the other way around it would have been better though because I wouldn't have felt like I was missing the performance so much when I switched to the non metal ski. Same skis, 90 has metal matrix, blend has carbon matrix.
