who's going this year? they already are skiing for god's sake. i'm think i'll reserve 4 days in february.
 
i had a friend go down there last yr about that time and it was the best experience of his life.

im gonna try 2 make it down there this yr 2. have fun, u cant go wrong with silverton.
 
i still have a pass good for one day before the end of the year, so if anyone wants to go down before 12/31 let me know
 
for $30 you can rent all the gear required: beacon, probe, shovel and even a pack if you need one
 
yea, you call ahead and make a reservation, and i have a day pass for use for one day

i don't know why this is so difficult to understand.
 
Been there. I would definately reccomend it. If you don't mind the long drive it is definately worth it. The skiing is the shit and they always have tons of snow. Can get brutally cold though. I actually have 4 free passes, I could hook you up with for a ride?
 
Something to consider:

While the operation remains guided only for this winter, at some point in the spring (April, probably) you will not need a guide. When this happens expect Silverton to become Colorado's answer to La Grave, France.

You will still need a beacon, shovel, probe and should probably have taken the time to learn how to use them.

It is an amazing place and I can't wait until the guides are merely an option. I had a great time there but the guides weren't moving as fast as we wished. . .Coulda done a whole lot more laps.

Silverton Mountain is just the beginning. If you don't mind hiking there are so many amazing bowls in the surrounding areas that you would shit yourself. But deffinitly come to Silverton its the shit.

I've heard that sentiment a few times before. We're going down this year, but we're trying to get a good sized group so we can just have us and a guide. Hopefully we can get a bunch of people that can keep up.
 
have u ever skied red mtn pass down there? (i hope i didnt fuck up that name and just make a complete jackass out of myself, but...) how is it and whats the best way to access that shit?
 
february 13th whuuuuttttt. went last season and it was about the best fucking day i've ever had on the mountain. skies puked for three days before and the whole day we were there.

if you want to hit up about the best tree run imaginable tell your guide to take you to bowling alley.
 
I wanna go so bad, have plans to go sometime this season. In answer to the Red MT. Pass, this is supposed to be possibly the best backcountry you can hit in the U.S. according to some people. It is also the most avalanche prone system of mountains in the lower 48.
 
would it be possible to build a big ass jump at silverton? cause it seems like id be perfect for that. or will they no let you?
 
^if you want to completely waste your $120+ then go ahead and build a jump. your guide will pretty much let you do whatever you want as long as it's cool with the group and as long as the guide likes you (i.e. if you whine and bitch the whole time he/she's not gonna show you the stashes).

there's plenty of areas in colorado to go build a fatty bc booter. but if you want to pay silverton $120 just to build a jump be my guest. more untouched freshies for me and my group.

but it's the sickest runs you'll ever take. wasting your time building a jump would just be.....a waste.
 
i thought this year you dont need a guide, and its gonna be cheaper? mabye im wrong, but yeah 120 bucks is alot to waste on building a jump all day. if it was like 50 id be cool.
 
^they're thinking about going to the no-guide system this season, but it won't be til march or april if they do. i don't mind the guides at all. they know the mountain inside and out, and can take you to exactly what you want to ski.
