Silverstar Resort, BC = HATERFEST

So I just got back from Silverstar Resort in BC with my friend mitch (k2skipunk) and holy shit. Is anyone nice there? The snow sucked but the weather was nice, and the snow wasn't really a problem since the park was good (by Baker standards at least), but whenever we would talk to people they would either 1. Talk shit to us, 2. Get scared when we offer high-fives, or 3. Ignore us.

For those of you who ski there, what's the deal? We probably asked 50 skiers who had a NS style if they had a NS account, and there were NO active Newschoolers. A few inactive ones, and one guy with a NS sticker though he was inactive as well.

Where's the on-hill love NS? And where is NS at this mountain!?

i was just there as well, from the 17-21 of feb skiing, me and my friends were mostly shooting video on the last big jump, and were all from calgary and edmonton, but i found the vibe and poeple there really cool. we met a few local rippers the first day and had a great time skiing there, everyine was super cool and the park and the park crew were really good, im surprised that u found it to be bad, i had a great time skiing there and everyone was super cool

i believe you forgot to mention that there was one nice person..... me. well i didn't really talk to you, but i went up the chair with your buddy. but yeah, i don't even hardly ski with anyone cuz im to afraid to talk to the freestylers. they are extremely imitating. but i definatly agree that the people there need to cheer up. not many nice people.. oh, sick suit by the way

park crew was good? they are dick heads. today one guy carved up the mound of snow for a box (not doing any damage whatsoever or getting in the way of anyone) and the crew yelled at him. my personal experience with them is NOT good.

Used to go there when I was a kid, it was a cool resort, especially the backside... I used to bust mute grabs off everything, like the side trails and all on cat-tracks.... fun stuff.

Do you have any idea how fucking annoying it is when someone skies or rides over something you're building?

I ski silver star but im not sure if i had a convo with u... i have brown pants amd a bright orange jacket with bright orange anons and some nordica skis

I ski there, and yeah, sometimes I get some bad vibes in the park, but most of the time it's all good.

I agree that some people need to lighten up, and stop being so cliquish (dunno if thats a word or not)

I was there today, and everyone is usually super nice. Most of the really good freeskiers are on the airsite most of the time, and every time i've been in the park everyone's been super nice.

March 10-17 I'm there. I'm from Ontario and I'm a decent park skiier but if someone wants to show me around and show me some stuff in the park I'd be down.

naahh silverstar is sick, when i was there everyone was so pumped and yeah it was sick.

march 30th - april 4th i'm gonna be up at big white for spring break with about 3 other friends so hopefully people are pretty chill. I've had friends go up there and say that everyone is really relaxed so hopefully this is just a fluke but that sucks man

I skied on Friday and Saturday, in my all red Lethal Descent suit. Maybe you saw me, but there were a few nice people we met in the park, but then there were twice as many people who when asked if they were Newschoolers went, "Maybe. So what!?" like it was a bad thing to be one.

Yeah i saw u on friday the only day i skied.... but i was just filmin on the knoll of the second table mostly and hikin it aswell.

It was a whole new experience to me and Brian (mtbakerteacher). Usually at baker, I hand out high 5's like candy on Halloween. When ever I went to give any high 5's up at silver star, people looked afraid, like i was going to hit them. I was really suprised by the lack of happiness. Not only because at baker 90% of the people, including staff, are super nice. Even lifties on a sick pow day, and especially samcaylor in his cute lil uniform. Mind you most of the people in the park were chill, not all though, but overall there was a really bad vibe. For example, at Pooh and Beans, (a candy store) some guy in last years oakley 1-peice walked in, i saw him on the mountain and saw that he was throwin down. So I simply asked him, "Newschoolers?", he was pissed that someone was just talking to him, and he said "WWWWHHHHAAATTTT?", so I politely asked again, "Do you have a newschoolers account", again, shitty attitude, "What the fuck?" So I apoligized for the misunderstanding, and he said "Rarararararara, blah, bitch." I was shocked, again to see that someone could be so pissed off just from asking a simple, harmless question. Again, I was taken by the suprise of pure anger, and hate.

On another note, if any of you come to Baker, we'll make sure to show you a good time, and not talk and act like we have a chairlift shoved up our assholes.

PS. armstrongskier was one of the very few chill people up there. And armstrong skier, i was the guy in the orange survival suit.

Less hate more love Silver Star.

I SKI SILVERSTAR AND I HAVE NS

but i wasnt there this weekend and my ski is broken

however ya theres a few haters up there and sum people just think there hot shit and to good 4 others

Damn Brian/Mitch sorry to hear that... Vibes are really hard to come by these days. You guys shoulda been here this weekend, this crew of kids our age came here from Stevens or something, they were all assholes. So we essentially drove them out of here with a few snowballs and what not.

those guys were riding at big white last week too. they were pretty chill from my perspective. did you talk to them? but yeah, if you didn't they could have definitely put off that negative vibe.

Well I didn't talk to them, but they laughed when my friend didn't quite make his 270 on...

We didn't actually drive them out or anything, they just left on their own.

They weren't terrible though...

I was there january 12-13 I think, with the ski club, and I had a blast. :) (on the other hand I'm from seymour, so.. enough said.)

I didn't do much in the park... but I saw a lot of skiers in there

..I dunno

I could understand that, however, I have been to many other mountains, and have never received the amount of bad vibes we felt up at Silver Star. Even up on whistler this year, I have asked people if they are a newschoolers, usually with an answer of "O ya dude, hows it goin', whats your account name...", or just simply "no." At silver star, if we asked someone, they got mad, as if we asked them a question like "Do you still wear diapers, and pee in your bed?" I could see some one gettin' zesty at that. It was mostly people over reacting, and turning a simple, harmless, generally friendly question in to their own little zest-fest, as if it was an excuse to get pissed off. Even simple high-5's as I said before, were turned down and frowned upon by the whole lift line.

I asked a ticket checker to trade me, a high-5, for a scan. No smiles, just let me scan it kid, but when they started to recognize us more, high 5's were given, but I had to work to get them.

I guess what I'm saying is that it was a big change, from Baker to Silver Star, from love to hate.

When I ski, I am happy, about as good in a mood as I can get, there is nothing better to me, so when someone hates, it really counts and pisses me off.

Thats strange, I was there and it was really cool... But I was also there during the Canadian Junior Freestyle Championships, so there weren't too many people in the actualy park, they were all training for halfpipe or moguls or something...... I'm really surprised by that though... It seems that the smaller and worse the resort is the nicer the people are hahaha. I have to ski at Panorama all year and it pushes the boundaries of shitty for the midwest, as I'm sure anyone who has skied there can agree. No-one there talks shit or ignores you, and its basically one of the worst resorts for good skiers in BC.

hmmmm.. I know and have met a half dozen or so from there. that seems wierd. then again its probably really really even wierder when I ask if someone if they are on NS hahahahaha Baker sounds like a lot of fun. Got to put that on the "list"

The first rule of newschoolers is, you do not talk about newschoolers..

The second rule of newschoolers is. you do not talk about newschoolers.

yeah i find the same there...i love silver star aside from what some people think of me, but whenever i go there i get nothin but angry stare downs and negative vibes from everyone. i hardly ever see someone stoked and haveing fun, everyones just super serious and dont seem like there out there to have fun. i no longer enjoy going to silver star because of the attitude of most of the riders there...

Thank you for seeing the same attitiude, lol. With the comment about not talking about newschoolers... why not? Then you might possibly have someone else to ski with, the more the merrier.

And papasteeze, let us know when or if you come out.

what a weird question, "are you on newschoolers?" i cant say i wouldreact the way you seem to think everyone reacts with a "YES SIREE I SURE AM COACH!"

great contribution to the thread...... NOT. people shouldnt be assholes in general and when people are assholes while skiing its even worse. this is supposed to be fun and it bothers me when i read threads like this about people at silver star...

I always happily reply yes. It's not that weird, and it would be endearing to know that whereever I go I can find someone who skis the same stuff I ski.

the image you can get from being a super i-don't-giva-a-fuck-thug is way too important to a bunch of dumbassess these days

NS party!!!!!!!

I think people acted funny because you were some stranger going tup to some random person asking them if they were on a skiing website. I love newschoolers but you do not ask people if they are on it. Maybe if you get to know them and want to keep in touch, but as it was said above me, Rule #1 is you do not talk about ns. Why? Because it's creepy as fuck, especially if you have never met the person before.

"Are you on NS?"

"Yea I'm [so and so]"

"Oh ya, you don't know me but I've seen you post!"

It's stalkerish. And to top it off it's like that dirty little porn habit you have but shouldn't talk about. I know you've watched videos of girls having all sorts of fun with vegetables. So have I. But I am not going to go up to some random guy on the street and ask if he saw that video where that girl shoved that zucinni in her bum. You just don't talk about.

Besides, you are there face to face with a person, who gives a rats ass if they are on the interweb. Try some real social skills.

Woah woah woah! This isn't just reference to NS we are talking about. This is hate regardless. Even snowboarders or older people were mean. We went out of our way to be friendly and 95% of our responses were negative. Also, only a few of the people who acted nice back were actually Canadian. Most were from the states or Australia.

oh, well thats cause canadians are fucking assholes. the media lies.

It's an interior mountain. I would expect the old people to be stuck up.

On another note, hemlockjibber, I asked you that same question when you came into Mad Dogs to get your skis mounted, and when I asked, you weren't sketched a little bit, it seemed that way, and I got in shit for talking to you + Max too much because I took a long time to break down some boxes while I was talking to you. You were nice, and thank you for that.

Who Cares? When I Ski i ski to have fun with the ppl im with not to make friends with random kids that are skiing, if someone starts tlaking to me of course ill be nice and talk back maybe do some runs but im not going out of my way to throw up high 5s with random dudes in tha park those are for my firends
