SilverStar or Big White??

I just moved to Vernon and I need to know about the hills, Silverstar is supposed to be great, But BigWhite is spending millions to expand the park. I need a season pass! Which Hill?

 
yeah dual mountain but if you have to pick one definitely pick Big White. i duno if you'd wanna do that tho since you live in vernon.

they got a foot yesterday. yea the dual mtn is a good idea but i just got my bw pass mailed to me, i usually just ski there and not at silver

Shill's right better rippers at silver star but its only 80 bucks for the dual mountian upgrade and its like an hour and a half to biggy from vernon, defintally worth it to go to both.

I got a copy of the new Skier mag (it's not on shelves yet) and it has a good article on the Silver Star Freeride Team. In the past Big White hasn't offered or supported anything like that but from the sounds of the new expansion maybe they will start a club at BW too. TJ and Bibby are plastered all over the mag.

 
big white is an all around mtn. U have powder and steep, lots of groomers and moguls, and now a huge park. The village varies from budget units in 20+ year old buildings to brand new luxury suites.

if big white gets there whole expantion thingy done it will be super super sick. a new chair just for the park? im def gunna go check it out next season.

and a new chair just for the cliff too, no more skiing back to the bullet and taking the t-bar, used to take forever to get back up. now u can in a matter of minutes

the new runs at the Gem Lake make the mountain like 20% bigger too. just look at the new trail map.

 
yea for 6 runs they really expand, in a few years they are gonna put a new chair going up to this moonlight bowl on the west side. We were also supposed to get a 6 seater replacing the rocket but when bw bought silverstar they put it there because their lifting system wasnt as good. Hope to see more expansion in the next 5-10 years

haha rumar has it that big white isnt actually putting in a chair for their park. they planned on it and then realized that there was a three year waiting list for a new chairlift to be made. couldnt say u didnt see it coming though

 
yeah, i was up there a little while ago and i didnt see them putting up a chair there ( that was at the start of july tho) but if they dont put one in they should still have a t-bar or a rope tow.

 
naw they cant put any surface lift because then it would go through the features. They do have the cliff chair in i was up there awhile ago, they should have made it go up higher kinda sucks. the park lift shouldnt be too far away

Silverstar is so sick when it snows there... Putnam Creek is amazing. Big White is more of a family hill. Every year they say they are going to make a newer bigger park, and every year it sucks balls and actually gets worse!

silver star recently got voted one of the best family hills in NA, big white used to have that title, but i guess they are gearing more toward teens now because they have more teen programs

I was just at biggy today sept. 6 and yes there will be a lift for the park the concrete tower forms have been set so everything is a go.

^ its all new cost like 2.5 mill who knows if it will be as go as in the pic, but for that price it better be sweet.

Big White - Big selection of skiing (sub-alp, powder, park, gladed, etc) and a decent park. Large mountain with many chairlifts so less lineups.

Silver Star - Not quite as big as Big White and not as much selection of skiing. Wicked sick park though, everything's perfect everyday because our park crew works super hard for big features. Less chairlifts.

It all depends on what type of skiing you plan to do, I guess. When I'm not feeling park I head out to Big White.
 
Those two ski areas have to be my favorite Canadian ones to date. Big White had the BEST maintained park I have ever seen, with people actually standing near the jumps and re-working them after you hit it. I LOVE park crews like that!

I seriously wish I sometimes lived there, it would be so nice to ski there... ah, I guess I'll have to wait untill I get my ski cabin in Vernon in another ten years...
 
maybe not too old, I heard last march that at Silver, they frequently chop the landing areas to soften them up. Is that true?
 
yeah, no body come to big white... ever... its awful and terrible and people will throw things at you and slash your car tires.

and the fog... it's poisonous...
 
they both put tons of cash into their parks and they matience both really well. So the better question is how many days of school are you gona miss to go ski
