Coming from a female who competes in local grassroots rail jams, I can confidently say I don’t think I deserve the same cash purse as men when there are 30 men competing and just 3-8 girls competing. It’s not really about equal pay at the local level. It’s about how many show up to compete. And there aren’t enough showing up in the playing field to deserve the same amount as guys. Hell, i don’t even have to compete in qualifiers in about every rail jam I’ve competed in. Girls automatically advance to finals and some of the best guy skiers I know don’t even make it to finals! At the local grassroots level, I am okay with the cash purse not equaling men. I barely have to try at most rail jams and I usually get at least 3rd place. I don’t deserve $3,000 for barely trying. Just my $0.02. I’m all for women’s rights but Sierra is just doing this to gain clout and that’s mad annoying.

Im sure most of the haters didnt do a competition yet.

You cant just rule out talking about how men throw bigger tricks and attract more viewership because of it. People like watching more amazing things. A 900 is less impressive than a triple cork.

14024307:SteveStepp said:Two things here:
I didnt want to talk specifically about the gap in skill as a indicator of potential pay gap because, as 'entertainers', individual skiers draw in viewership/revenue/sales in different ways, and Sierra (even myself, or Andy parry) is a good example of it. Regardless of the gap in skill, which we know exists, sales in the industry arent specifically predicated on skill. This was the Floyd Maywether example. It also coincides with my belief that women work just as hard as men in terms of training and learning new tricks, so its not a good gauge of "who deserves more" since males/females work equally hard.
I agree that people like to watch more amazing things, and it very well might be a factor, but the larger factor at play is the participation rates among females. But even still, we cant say for sure that women as a whole will become more interested in watching skiing if they field of female skiers suddenly started throwing down super hard.
Personally i think using skill as a reason why women get paid less isnt the full story.
14024155:DominatorJacques said:Wow. That's a brave statement. My hope is that more females will show up to contest that pay equal.
It is sad when few enter and get the automatic prize money, yet to make the prize money equal seems to be the thing to do.
It's going to take time for real change to happen. The equal prize money is the first step to create the change.
Males vs males. Females vs females, yet equal prize money.
Brand endorsements are another story.
I respect you for voicing yourself here. Best to you.
14024323:TOAST. said:About 5 years ago we had a local rail jam and i think 1st place male got $1000 and first place female got $500. Not one women skier entered so that prize money went untouched. Can't say we didnt advertise it well since we had a good amount of female snowboarders from a bunch of different mountains and they were very entertaining to watch. If we had the prize money at $1000 for females I dont think there would have been an increase of female participants.

14024549:Titus69 said:I'd honestly say that's real cause she is kinda known for hucking big cliffs, the angle just makes this look weird I think, however it looks like shes going fucking huge for the amount of angle the slope has. Respect for the send, but nothing else.
14024552:john18061806 said:yep, I'm just a little cuck that will never send anything that big. I don't doubt that either of the photos are real anymore. I wasn't really following skiing in the days that she was routinely going large so I'm just ignorant to that fact. Respect for the send. As for her gram: a skier shouldn't be marketing their body, they should market their skiing. Same thing goes for Gus these days. I guess whatever it takes to bankroll the ski trips though.
14024545:john18061806 said:Oh shit!!! I didn't know she has actually hucked cliffs that large. Huge respect there. My bad for being a douche. Thank you for enlightening me. The photo I embedded definitely looks legit, but the linked one looks fishy. But damn she was so gnarly back in the day.
Such a shame that she's resorting to bikini pics over sending more massive drops like that, but hell if I was that hot I'd do the same. It's easier on your body.

14024631:eheath said:I mean, I can't access any user information, google analytics has very detailed breakdowns of any stat we want to see, but we don't see the data.
14024633:Cade2 said:Oh I see, so like you couldn’t see the ages of specific users, just as a whole
14024619:dan38 said:Here's my problem with this argument because personally, I think the skill gap is the largest reason why they don't get paid equally. Here and with a lot of your fans Steve, we appreciate the nuances and technicality of tricks (like Kelly Sildaru doing switch 900's in both directions to win). That's really impressive. Unfortunately, the majority of viewers have no idea what a "pretz" or "unnatural" trick is. And sponsors aren't marketing to us, the "informed" park skiers, they're marketing to the largest fan base possible. This is done by finding the athletes the throw the flashiest tricks (Think someone like Jesper) rather than a woman, who is still doing difficult tricks but aren't as mindboggling to the average person.

14024674:eheath said:That's not how it works, it doesn't distinguish users by their hardware, google monitors activity basically, it can see what sites you go to and use tons of other pieces of private data to determine at least your age range. This is all techy google shit that I'm not entirely educated about, but every website has access to these stats and everyone uses these stats to sell ads.

I can understand the competition reason of the guy who said only a few girls will compet but a lot of men but your reason isnt incomprehensable.
