Sierra Quitiquit is freaks out over a meme

She seems to think that people who get less viewers, have less competitors, should get the same amount of money as people who have a way larger amount of competition. If she wants equality, then women should compete alongside men for the same prize. She also thinks the meme is advocating for violence against women!!? Sierra is off the goop fr doe. For a social media influencer, she doesn't seem to grasp what a meme is. Maybe there is a more sinister reason for her posting this? (To boost her followers)

we could always try something.. build two identical courses on opposite ends of the mountain, hold the women's and men's comps at the same exact time and see how many people attend one versus the other.

Or have women compete in the men's field then if they want a equal pay scenario. (this leads to an interesting topic on transgender athletes as well)

Like let's break this down. The meme (posted on @memecork and credited to Steve Stepp) depicts a woman being thrown out of a moving car for suggesting equal pay in their competitive field. So here's how Quitiquit is spot on and you're...not:

Equal pay: On a centuries-deep level, men in western civilization have had privileged access to athletics. You're going to say it's because men are naturally better athletes, whatever. You're wrong. Do a little bit of in-depth research on sexual dimorphism and human history. The emergence of men as a biologically stronger sex is 100% rooted in the rise of cultural patriarchalism. There are literally thousands of cultures and populations who have favored women's athletics, and seen women as the dominant competitors in a variety of physical domains. In this culture, at this time, men have a proclivity toward selective hereditary traits that have made them, temporarily, stronger on average. That would 1000000% change if we stopped subjugating women to domestic roles, discouraging them from athletics, and asserting that extreme sports are a men's field. You want women and men to go head to head? First give them the same chance that men have. Create competitive ski organizations that are all women (bc we all know how many teams are boys clubs). Promote women's events on the same level as men. Advertise events with women to women (they are 51% of the world population, I promise that there is a market for women's skiing). Most of all, create the same opportunities for women athletes. Nobody is going to throw triple corks in competition for half the payout, plain and simple. Change the culture, and you will level the playing field. People didn't think women could be engineers or doctors 50 years ago either, but obviously, they were wrong.

Violence against women: The woman literally got thrown out of a car for calling out systemic oppression you pop tart.

off the top of my head?

on a large scale - fwt + qualifiers.

smaller scale - rails to riches i suppose

know anything about the world cup or olympics prize money? i do not... (also really not interested in aggressive arguing because i will not be able to change anyone's mind over the internet!)

Yeah I'm not sure about FWT or not, no money is given away for the Olympics but I'm pretty sure world cups are equal.

I'm not trying to call you out, just discussing, I'm very curious to hear what everyone thinks about Sierra's post.

I want to add something constructive to this thread though. It's my opinion that the women's field in the FWT should be just as large as the men's. They take 3 men from the Americas region in the FWQ but only take one female to compete in the FWT. It's super tough to earn that top spot, especially if you don't have sponsor money helping you travel to all the FWQ events.

I don't get how this is viewed as inequality.

Less women show up. I get maybe you're saying just on the pro side and then I get it. I mean, people put money where they get a return. I would think things are more equal now because women are riding at a higher level.

Hell like 12 years ago there was a woman riding Xgames slope that skipped the rails. And there are far less women showing up to events then men generally. In contests where the prize pool is paid by entry women should absolutely get less imo. The same has happened with snowboarding and skiing at times.

Even if none of that is a problem. If there are 100 men competing, and 12 women, it's unfair imo to give them the same prize money because they aren't competing against as many people.

I don't think women should get snubbed but I feel like people try and throw equality at anything and everything, and sometimes, it's kind of bullshit.

Its a scientific fact that men produce more testosterone than women, SOME women MAY produce more testosterone than SOME men due to having more masculine or feminine traits. Testosterone levels are the number one contributing factor to muscle growth, which is a major factor in athletic ability. In western society there isnt anything stopping women from training in the same facilities men do, and there are all girls teams at every hill ive been a part of. Pay does not discourage women from progessing, because if a woman wanted to be the best she would push herself in that field. Its basic fucking science, look at the ufc, purses for mens and womens events are the same, they dont fight each other because men are stronger.

Rails to riches the mens sells out forever in advance, womens you could probably get in right before the event. Idk the specific numbers but a lot of these events have 3+ times more guys competing.

But yeah, the men have a higher prize pool to oppress women. That seems logical.

Lolol, just clicked

Rants about equality in the ski industry and feminism and a good chunk of her pictures are your typical "follow me because I'm pretty".

Onwards and Upwards,

Are women really that discouraged from sports now? In high school, our girls teams were as hyped up as any guys team. In college, there's that rule where a school must have as many female sports as male sports. In skiing, everyone loves a girl who can ski well, I've never seen or heard anyone say something like "she can't/shouldn't do that because she's a girl." I agree that this meme went a little over the top with throwing a girl out of a car, but it's just a meme (by zane kushman, so what do you expect?). It's not actually promoting violence toward anyone

This literally makes no sense. Men biologically have always been stronger than women due to our higher levels of testosterone. Even the military has different PT requirements for Women than Men. Boys have a greater tendency to doing dangerous activities than girls which has manifested itself into extreme sports. Not to say there are women that dont like to push themselves skiing etc but if you look at the greater population there is a clear trend. Even in nature males typically conduct dangerous activities, even being brightly colored, to impress females. Companies know this and want to sell products so they dont waste advertising dollars and promotion on female athletes with a smaller following. I mean, how many pink names are here in NS vs blue names?

At the end of the day, Men are biologically different than Women. That is why Men favor things like extreme sports and women favor things like interior design etc. The meme is stupid for sure but it reflects a push back from society against the media portrayal of women that they are biologically the same as men in strength, stamina etc while at the same time women would get crushed against men if they were allowed to compete in the same field.

I thought this was a forum, a place where people talk to each other. Not a place where you instantly shut down anyone who disagrees with you.

That said, if you had argued your point instead of saying "You're not allowed to talk to me" maybe the conversation would have brought up other things.

You mentioned events like rails to riches. Your original post was about equal pay in competitions.

I mentioned that events like R2R draw way more guys. I've worked contests where every girl that showed up got a prize. Several in the smaller park events.

I think that's sad for the reason that we need to engage more with people. There's a huge push for that these days. Women specific events and programs to make people feel more comfortable, get them out there. Also women's riding is fucking awesome these days. I've talked about that a bunch on the forums the last few years. I'm more excited to watch some of the women's comps than men's. But you would know that if you talked to me instead of throwing up bizarre barriers.

Don't worry though. I won't reply to you again, because theirs no point, but the internet like everything else is a place to learn things, and challenge your opinions. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you're right, but shutting down and throwing up walls saying "I already said it’s not possible to change people’s mind on the internet " is absolutely ridiculous.

If you can't debate in an open forum, in a simple discussion, good luck in the real world. Maybe your in college in that bubble world at the moment, but there's a whole world out there filled with differing viewpoints. At some point you're going to have to deal with that or you're gonna have a tough time out there.

I've coached girls, I've run smaller comps, but I'm misinformed with a lack of information because I'm a dude? To me, that comment is coming off as kind of rude.

Peace

'Nickles on the dollar for the same job and same reach'

female sports suck to watch. They only suck to watch because males go so much harder.

Can't create and artificial demand for a shitty supply. Doesn't work that way.

I guarantee I'm gonna regret posting in this thread, so go nuts kids

Classic left wing perspective for people to expect everyone to listen to them and their opinion and the second someone opposes it they stop listening, we see the same thing in public debates on sociology, and psychology. Its pathetic and needs to be addressed especially in media. People talk about oppression and dont realise they themselve are oppressing people by ignoring and shutting down their views before allowing a separate perspective to be shown.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen somebody say "please don't respond to me" outside of somebody quoting them in every thread and saying something stupid. Even that is pretty rare.

Idk, I get being emotionally charged about an issue, but it's the internet. And honestly this discussion has been insanely tame. I don't get how you can put something out there, and then get angry that somebody replies. It's an internet forum.

Don't try and make this about political leanings. For every "left people do this" or "right people do that", I can find a million examples of the exact opposite.

Same, I unfollowed her bc she doesn't actually post any ski content, just lifestyle photos. She's like the queen bee of the "insta-skier girl" generation. If anyone could point me in the direction of her actual content (not just making some nice pow marketing turns) let me know. Don't mean to trash fellow skiers but damn if you're going to complain this much at least have some gnarly content to back it up with..

Exactly this. That is why women skiers like Ingrid Backstrom and Sarah Burke are awesome. Instead of bitching, they just went out there and threw down and that alone inspired a ton of girls to get into skiing.

And what does the name theabortionator have anything to do with hating women? Abortions are pretty equal opportunity. Also womens rights. I could see plenty of moral objections to the name, but I'm not seeing how it's sexist.

Nope. Innovation is definitely not motivated by money. Sometimes they correlate but I don't think any of the original free-skiers or even snowboarders decided to stop cuz "we aren't getting paid enough". Nobody gets paid in this sport for fucks sake.

It's a joke you fucking walnut. Care to explain how it is systemic oppression. Last time I checked there is no one stopping women from doing any of the things men do. At least in the U.S. plenty of people are in shitty position of all races and genders. Culture is shitty. But if you blame everything on culture and society you are part of the problem. You're out of touch.
