I was at Granite this past weekend, and it was really crowded because it was winter break. Anyway I was hiking a rail in the park and the amount of gapers was astonishing. They weren't just little kids there were also a lot of adults. They would side jump everything except the box at the end of the park, whose landing became so pitted it threatened to delam my skis. Anyway, one time I hit the rail this kid comes through at like Mach 4 and side jumps the lip while I was ON the rail. F me sideways. I was wondering how you guys stay safe in the park under conditions like these, and prevent your throat from being cut by rental skis.

I hate when people do that.. Nothing worse than trying to hit a rail and getting cut off by someone decked out in rental gear trying to launch off to the side.

Granite Peak is the gaper capital of the Midwest. The location of the hill is just perfect for the floods of people to come in from Chicago.

I was hitting the jump on "sky high" all night on Wednesday... At least 50% of the time there was some kid in the landing holding everybody back. There were also 4 major injuries from people jumping off the knuckle and landing in the flats.

Also got heckled for "cutting" the lift-line when I cruised through the single line.

Come ski here on Sunday. High of 4°F... The jerries will be in the chalet all day eating the terrible food.

Coffee Mill put a bucket inbetween the jump and the landing last year so no one could roll over the lip or knuckle it lol. They also chopped up the landing next to the rails off of the lip in a few places so people couldn't go off the lip. I miss that

I also love hanging out next to the stairset at my home park for lunch. You can't see the stairs from above and gapers wreck themselfes all the time.

I remember riding gore some days and there were more side jumpers than people shredding. Some of the features had a berm both ways off the corner and it was tough to even get to the rail. Oh yeah, and obviously the features didn't get raked either.

Side jumpers suck though. There are bigger things to launch off outside of the park but they're too dumb to find them.

My mountain only blew enough snow to build a park so now every gaper and their protective dads are going fucking warp speed through the park. Its come to the point where I have had to push a few kids coming at me in self-defense.

Yeah the gapers are always out during breaks and long weekends, why just a week ago I was told by a gaper mom that she would "fuck me up" and her husband said "Listen to her, she's skied in Colorado."

I have come to respect the strictness of the park staff at my mountain. The only way to access the park is through a poma that most of them can't even ride up.

To be fair, they do pay for everything good at Granite (great lifts, etc); they are the reason a season pass costs under $500 while a day pass with rentals costs $110

I have a video somewhere of my friend that snowboards yelling "Get The Fuck Outta The Way" at a gaper and then doing a board slide 2 over them.

Gaper A was sitting on the rail filming gaper B jump off the side, and after that was done they sat in the landing of the rail (Rail was like a 15'). This whole time there's about 15 of us waiting to drop in plain sight.

I get that everyone starts somewhere but some of this gaper shit is unreal.

Keystone solved this problem a few years ago, they blocked off the main entrance to the park leaving the Gapes to only one option which is now known as the Gaper Park.

They have like a dfd rail, a flat box, down donkey in one section like a 10 foot jump at another spot, and a down rail, a flat down, a flat tube and a hip in another spot. However when I went on Sunday and it poured rain both springboard and lmp were open so when we actually get snow tomorrow they might put a few features up, they did have more features at the base of springboard for a comp that will be open soon to everyone I think. Oh and they have another park from a snowboard comp that's pretty sweet I forget what was there but it looked cool. As far as the conditions go they will hopefully be good this weekend with the new snow we get, as of now I'm saying straight ice cause of the down pour we got on Sunday.

Was just there today, we actually got a little bit of snow throughout the day. Park was groomed pretty well though. Wasn't too bad, but yeah there was still definitely some icy ass spots

I'm glad there's so much hype for this. We've hit a bit of a delay as temperatures are below 0 and no gapers are out. It's supposed to warm up later this week so hopefully I can get some shots. Also, Granite's park is about to get gnarlier...I think this is bad for the gapers, good for the edit

My favorite gaper encounter was standing on a roller and a gaper comes up from behind hits the back of my knees, somehow he was on my tails enough that we both go sliding down the roller I turned him into a moving chair sitting on him and pointing it down the roller for 15ft or so with him still under me then once he tumbled off I just cruised away middle finger up like a boss haha.

In all seriousness though we have so many families and racers that do this on hood. I personally take 2 minutes out of my day and explain to them the rules of the park and let them know side jumping ruins the work park crew does, makes it harder for us to use them for what they're intended for, dangerous to be flying around. If you tell them in the sense of "I'm the nice park rat that isn't gonna cuss you out listen to me" they 8/10 thank you grab the kids and bounce or ask where the baby parks are at. That's 5 people less that wont snake anyone in the park now that they're educated on it. If everyone took this approach then there would be far less gapers in the park.

i always see the little 10 year olds on the freestyle team just screaming at the gapers to get off the knuckle at loon. they make me so proud.
