Sick of the Corporate Life, Wanna Do a Season... WHERE?

I've been working, 9-5 corporate job for several years now, basically since school, and I'm sick of it! So I figure, it's time to do a season before I get old and the arthritis kicks in. I know Whistler is the popular choice, but curious if anyone has any experience elsewhere in Canada or even Europe?

All I require is a bed, a lift pass, a shit-monkey job to pay for booze and a place to invest in that booze. Been thinking about Big White, or somewhere back East.

Thanks!

spend a year at jackson or utah and you will be changed i dont now any places out of country though. fernie is suppoesed to be sick

Summit county is wicked pricey, but some resorts like Keystone (and I think Copper) have employee housing - it'll be like college dorm living again! If you don't want to do dorm living then head to Utah. Unreal skiing, but way cheaper.

i hear you can get some kinda pass that gives you a season at breck, keystone, and a basin, then like 5or 10 days or something at beaver creek, and 5 or 10 days at vail for like 400-500 dollas

I'd love to work in the US, but I have little to know chance of getting work permits... and I'd cheat the system, but I don't really wanna have a bad encounter with US Immigration Officials.

I plan on doing that when im done my degree. Im going with fernie.

kick me - as long as you're not mexican, you could run into the immigration office in colorado and yell ''i'm a goddamn illegal alien'' and they wouldn't even blink. and summit county has BY FAR the best deal in the WORLD on passes - copper/winter park offers a buy-one get one free pass for students (all you have to do is forge a document which is cake) and your pass that would be $335 by yourself (still a killer deal) is now only half that for you and a friend. that's right $170 for a no-restriction all year pass to 2 great mountains totalling more than 3000 acres that now both have pretty damn good parks. and summit is expensive compared to the city, but it's nothing like aspen or an actual resort town. we got shit ass nothing for snow this season though so you might want to look elsewhere if that concerns you

Whistler has a lot of immigrant worker exchange programs.

yeah man I'm doing the same thing next year and I'm probably going to Utah. Whistler looks cool but they pretty mcuh won't hire americans in canada. So don't count on working much if that's where you are headed.

Colorado is a good place to live, although the mtns are expensive. Dillon and the other towns that are relatively close to the mtns arent that bad tho, especially when 5 world class resorts are within 15-45 minutes...

DON'T go to Summit. The place has no soul or character.

Look... A mountain RAM. Staring contest. Me and you. You don't even blink do you? You win. You always do. Goulet.

kicking horse, bc. i hear that there's copious amounts of great terrain, and tons of opportunities in the village. its apparently gonna become the next whistler...

I have been thinking about doing this as well, and have been looking into Summit County, is it worth it? Also, from what I've found out, Whistler will not help you get a work visa, but immigration laws allow you to obtain your own (without a sponsor) for 1 year, so americans could get a job in Whistler, but most likely, it'll only be for one year.

How much cheaper is it in Utah as compared to CO? And where in Utah is a good place to live? I stayed in Salt Lake City when I was there (bout 10 minutes from the entrances to Big and Little Cottonwood) but personally I wanna find somewhere that doesn't have so much of a city (although a liad back city) feel to it.

life is too short to have any regrets

Im gonna go ski bumming in winter park, CO, next season (going from australia to colorado, sweet), dont know how it rates as a ski bum town. A friend has a house there I get to stay in for free (I think), so thats why Im going there. Otherwise, I hear fernie is a great town, whistler rocks but its expensive.

In tractor pulls, a 'full pull' is the best you can get. Ahh, how sport mirrors life.

Fernie is only a short drive from the town I was born in, be nice to head home for a while, that's for sure. I have no Visa issues with Canada or the EU, Chamonix would be nice as well.... ergh! I hate decisions!
