SIA Show moved to Denver in Jan. 2010

lodging is going to be a nightmare... Vegas worked so well for lodging as everything was located in the same zone.

Won't quite be the same as Vegas, but at the same time I am excited it's now closer to home. And yes ^ I have no idea how they plan to accomodate everyone - should be interesting.

yeah, its gonna be a little tighter than Vegas, but Denver did do a pretty good job with the DNC, even though it was impossible to find lodging for that.

There's positive and negatives to the move to denver.

The large negative being that Vegas forced everyone to stay relatively close to the trade show, making meetings, parties, etc more accessible to everyone. I'd be willing to bet that most people commute to Denver from Boulder and you see a lot more parties spread out, which sucks because its really fun when everyone is partying together.

A positive is that you'll see way more underaged athletes at the show. Vegas is never fun for anyone under 21.

more plus, less minus.
lodging? are you really concerned about this?
if the DNC was a 10 in terms of overall size, this would be like a 2 or 3.
everything is fine. nothing is fucked.

I think denver is too logical of a location. it takes away a ton of the mystique and energy from what is a relatively simple and dull event (when you really think about it). Hard to imagine that a trade show would gain a reputation beyond just sales and some rendezvous action if it were not for Vegas as the city of choice. It just becomes too straightforward. Since so many people live there (denver/greater colorado area), skiing so close, I imagine it'll be a shitshow for the negative

Not to mention the cheap as lodging, gambling, drinking, and debouchery that happens with vegas too. I may not be a fan so much of the city, but at least it was fun.

Then again, it's a fucking trade show.

worst idea by far. i think they will move it back to vegas for 2011 after they realize half the fun of going to SIA was that its in vegas...
Glen Plake saide it the best...on the back of his jacket last year he had a quote that was tapped to the backside of his top...'fuck denver im going to vegas!'

easier to enter the party! but seriously where the fuck is the party??

Denver has the friendliest hobos ive ever met! and the easiest chicks but NO night life!

would rather party at the sunnyvale recreation center!

There was something too convenient about that stumble/tram ride from the tradeshow to Excalibur... I'm going to miss Vegas. Debauchery at it's finest. Nothing like a bunch of ski bums crashing clubs and bars, and watching doormen lose it trying to enforce dress code at parties, I have a feeling my liver will be thanking me with the move to Denver from Vegas.

Vegas had substantially cheaper hotel rooms, no real need for transportation, and The City of Las Vegas subsidizes flights into McCarren Airport, so airfare is actually super cheap into LV. It will be more convienient for a lot of brands, since quite a few are located near Denver, but for everyone else who has to fly, or isn't within driving distance it'll cost more. But, there is the bonus of on-snow testing. Can't judge it til it happens. I have a feeling it'll be messy regardless.

woah boy it's gonna be tough, SIA is at least twice the size of the Democratic National Convention.....

Agreed. There's nothing cheaper than buying canned beer at a gas station in Nevada. Vegas was built for these kind of things and Denver.... well not so much. Denver is still sweet thought.
If I had to propose a better location, it would be Reno (Vegas on a budget). 1.) Reno is much closer to legit skiing than Denver is.2.) Reno's airport is 5-10 minutes from downtown Reno.3.) Reno does not cost anywhere near what Denver and Las Vegas cost for anything that I can think of. It It really is a city on a budget.4.) like Vegas, the hotels are in very close proximity allowing for maximization of party time (don't forget a short drive to ski when hungover).5.) It would surprise most, but there are a lot of very attractive young females in Reno. I can't explain why either.

Reno currently has a foot on the ground, plus this:http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClic...3984375&site=rev&smap=1&marine=0&unit=0&lg=en

Enjoyed the article. It's too bad you missed the Nugget Diner, because awful awful is a great burger. I agree that Reno can be a scary place, however, it's an awesome place as well.

Good article, and Lenzner is right, had you made it to the burger place inside the old Nugget, you would have probably been happy with your trip at that point no matter what happened. That place is legendary.
It's a shame you found the streets scary, Reno is not a scary place. Most locals, and college students especially, regularly walk around outside and even back home during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. It's certainly not as visually appealing as Vegas, but I would be much more scared to go down the wrong alley in vegas than in Reno. I give this opinion having been to Vegas a lot and living in Reno for six years. Vegas is really sweet to party in, but that's only if you have lots of money to burn.
I sound like a Reno sales man, but I think most people will find that once they have spent some time there, it's really hard to beat all the things it has to offer below the second-class looking downtown casinos, sitting at the foothills the Sierras and Lake Tahoe. I even have friends who have since moved, like myself, and now miss it tremendously.
Perhaps it's better SIA remains in popular cities like Las Vegas and Denver. What makes Reno unique is all the things it has to offer in addition to having legit skiing very close, yet the town itself still flies under the radar in the ski community as a sort of secret gem. Perhaps it's mystic and lack of recognition are what make it so much fun for skiing and partying because it hasn't yet be overrun with a "scene" or hordes of people.
