Dear All,
I have watched this argument go on long enough, I would like to make a few points:
1. When did skiing/new schooling not include having some balls. I'm really tired of people saying that they'd rather see a big stylie 360 mute as opposed to some spinny flippy double thing. You might have convinced yourself that this is what you like but, deep down, everyone wants to see the craziest shit possible. And from experience, people at various comps exlpode when they see something nuts.
And...
I am in no way saying that I don't like the stylie stuff. I'm just saying that one must have a good mix of the style with the balls.
2. In relation to aerials...
What the Shrabs are doing are not aerials. There are no corks, no switch, no off axis in aerials. Aerials are also performed under the most controlled conditions possible, jump angle, landing slope angle, wind conditions etc. These guys are 'hucking' these tricks in the backcountry, onto ice and off shitty jumps. They also aren't doing the same quad-quad over and over. This is not aerials.
3. About the lack of style...
I am in no way saying that I feel that the double misty had very much style. I am gonna put it on record that some of the stuff they do does have style. I've seen sweet crossed up double fronts and backs. There is also no reason that they won't be able to toss a sweet tail grab in there this year. It's all about progression. A few years ago, I would be shocked and amazed to see a 900. JF Cusson won the x-games with the ugliest switch 7 I've ever seen. Look where we have gotten. Why stop here? If guys like the Shrab's are pushin the limits, people will come along and improve on what they're doing. Look at the D-spin Candide did 2-3 years ago that won the x-games, everyone can do a stylier d-spin now. I've overheard guys who've practised into water to be able to do double back to late 180 tail grab this season, do you not want them to do this because it might not have a lot of 'style' right off. I would probably pay money to see that shit.
4. I am aware that I got off the topic of the Shrab's and concentrated more on the 'style' factor. I also wanted to point out that in another one of this type of thread someone posted that 'newschooling' wasn't even skiing at all ( i actually read this), bull shit, why can't we stray from the stereotype of snowboarders on skis as we can, on average, go faster and bigger than snowboarders can. We are skiers and therefore we should be able to do tricks that rely on more air.
5. Do not let your emotions towards these guys sway your feelings about their skiing. I have never met them and they could be the biggest fucks I've ever met, but that doesn't mean in any way that they aren't sick skiers. Maybe they're assholes to all you guys because you constatly put them down and say that they have no skill.
I have been part of the twin-tip revolution from the beginning and consider myself to have the background to be making these observations. Thanks for reading my rant and your constructive criticism is fully welcomed.
