is this guy gonna get any credit for his good skiing? he came outta nowhere, and i have a feeling hes gonna stay at 'nowhere'. he needs some segments or atleast enter into some bigger competitions (only if hes any good at skiing other than pipe). if he is any good, he really needs some segments in videos. skiing needs a minority.

acually it does because no body really skies over there so they wont see what japan has to offer. i bet there are a ton of really good jibbers over there they just dont have the sponsors or cant afford to ski in the states so they dont get the recognition. i think its real good for the sport that japan is finally getting looked at for a sport different than say gymnastics or baseball.

skiing is huge in japan.

mike nick is like a god there.

they DO have sponsors and comps and terrain over there. stop being so self-absorbed in your country, they have a scene over there too, you egocentric bastards.

Brody

i wont drop out of high school for skiing, mom

yeah Mike Nick is HUUUUUGGGGGEE in Japan. Skiing is big over there, but its at its biggest here in North America

^no shit. we have more money, mountains, and interest. skiing is big in japan, but not like it is here

The japanese usually go crazy with their sports sometimes

but whats the difference between japan and europe? a lot of europeans come to NA to ski, and now what these few japanese are huge, they can certainly afford to ski here. im sure salomon (or whoever his sponsors are) can get him to ski here. im not saying that its better over here, but he can make it into a lot of mainstream videos im sure.

he definitely isnt as good as the other skier at world x, but coming from japan its pretty good

i sleep at the terrain park

you guys are so stupid shoya is so sickkk his fun at global x was the best run hhe was the best skier in that pipe on that day and thats wat counts that 540 tindy he did was sooooo stylie

and that alley oop flat spin was fukin huge

so stop raggin on the kid hes fukin sick

'I been pimpin since been pimpin since been pimpin.

yeah it was a good run, the reason you probably don't see him in movies is cause he hasnt hung around in the states or with any videographers that make movies we see

yea it seemed everyone was hitting the deck. nobody (except shoya) could put a full run together. thats primarily why shoya did better than the rest. (but u gotta admit that 'oop flat 5 was incredible.)

I have to agree with the last few comments. There is no way that guy deserved to win. He had a few straight airs. one massive flat, and an OK 720. I think Belan's run spanked him and honestly Tanner's was there too.

I think part of it as well was Team USA had already won the overall comp. so why have that team keep running up the points.

lol jon would have killed him if not for his little tummy problem, tanner could have, candide could have, etc etc.. i really don't think they all cared too much. i mean cr didn't go early to warm up, tanner was just sitin there thinkin he didnt have to try cause hes a cocky kid, and candide just decked first hit which was funny but unlucky.

shoya isnt as great as the ppl he was competing with, he just had more experience on terrible conditions. Shimo is more famous, he has segs in scandalous, and was beaten out of last years xqualies.

'when i first heard them, i was like 'oh my dad''-jesus

I think i'm going crazy...

what about candide. he decked hard, but got back up and still threw like 2 more flairs. he should have gotten a good score for getting back off his ass and still pulling some tricks. the alley oop flat 5 was sick, but everthing else was mediocre.

Remember you were born a human being

Not a part of their machine

its not like i could do it my self, but mediocre compared to what he was up against

Remember you were born a human being

some of you guys are such dorks 'so and so would have won if he landed...', who the hell cares, it was a comp and the point of this was, they didnt. shoyu had a sick run, no argument

The past month while I have been over here at hood I have seen about 5 different japanese people on skis, and it might have even been shoya but i dont know, they threw down though and went huge in the pipe, rev hip and everthing

Im in hood right now SUCKAZ

other foreign skiers have made big in many other countries, and shown its very possible. if he consistantly performed at the level he did at global X prob. could be huge. the japanese people are notorious for being very good at what they do, and put out excellent effort, but are VERY un-original, and tend to stick to a very soild regimented routine. if he could show he's progressive he might be accepted as a big skier, i mean, freeskiing is based on originality (sp?) and personality........and as far as i can see he's shown neither

don't throw stones if you live in a glass house;

and if you got a glass jaw you better watch your mouth

^just like their cars^ ...but about shoya, when i was in whistler last summer him and this other jap where landing on the backside of the high north quarter pipe. Shoya was hicking above the cat track and tucking ALL THE WAY into the quarter pipe, he didn't even dump any speed (if you've been to whistler and sen how far that is you are prrobably peeing your pants). then he would do a monstrous flat 3 safety about 30 feet in the air above the deck and stomp it like it was nothing. this kid has a lot of skills, and also A LOT of guts. kinda like jon mcmurray just with squinty eyes.

tanner was dqed for crying.

the china man certianly deserved to win.

amazing alleyoopflattyfive, yo.

jibrevolution, the guy you saw in Hood is not shoya. i think his name is sekizuka.

shoya has been big for the past several years. if he was just-came-out-of-nowhere-guy, he wouldn't have been ridding the same skis cr was riding at the global X while shimo was riding regular 1080. part of the reason you guys do not know shoya well is that he was doing more mogul than freeriding.

what the hell is wrong with just rideing pipe? pipe is sick.

i think in a few years skiing might go to specialties. look at snowboarding. ross powers and kier dilon specialise in vert. i wouldn't be suprised to see skiing go in that direction

yea man. whats wrong with specializing in one major aspect? like pipe is a big thing. I don't think that skiers take that shit seriously enough. yep.

skiing in japan gets a fair bit of reconition. it had a segment in 13 and the game. maybe its gone quite in the past few years but then the red bull comp in europe got a bit of show this time round as it had been by passed a for a few years.

in japan mike nick cant walk down the streets because hes like a national celebrtity...also Line sells more skiboards in Japan than all other twintip companys sell skis in the U.S....im not sure how true that is but this guy from Line told me at a demo one time
