Shoulder Instability Surgey

Hey guys so I severely dislocated my shoulder about 3 months ago and decided tom ride this season out, flash forward to now and the same shoulder has severely dislocated 8 times since the first incident. Doctor said I have a SLAP tear and need surgery. My question is, has anyone gone through this surgery? seems like a pretty common injury and I was wondering what its like and how the recovery is? Thanks for the input, just hoping I'll be 100% by November

Got my labrum repaired last winter (I think it was a grade 3 tear so it was pretty serious) and I was in a sling for 3 months post op with an additional 3 months off the bike/skis/anything high risk. It sucked during that time period but I did PT everyday and my shoulder feels fucking amazing. Good luck.

i've done it to both shoulders.

don't rush your comeback. the worst is tearing it again, and then you are really screwed.

where do you live? i can hook you up with a phenomenal physical therapist if you live in Denver/Boulder or Breck.

Thanks man I appreciate it, I’m currently living in flagstaff Arizona but I’m moving to steamboat next semester so I’m tryna get it better before then, hopefully start PT this summer and probably have to carry into fall so any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Ok sweet ya, I just want it better so as long as it takes I’ll be dedicated, the sling thing sucks since it’s my dominate arm, gonna have to get used to be left arm haha

My physical therapist trains Red Bull Rampage athletes. He'll be perfect for getting you into sport-specific shape after you do basic physical therapy post-op. What's your Insta handle? I can put you in touch with him that way. He trains me remotely because I live in NYC now.

Currently at the doctor awaiting results to see if I have to have the surgery as well. Good luck brotha, I hear it’s not too bad and with good pt its good as new

Had 4 brackets put in my right shoulder to repair the labrum in the summer of 2018. First month is pretty brutal but after that it's more of an inconvenience. As long as you do the stretches and PT you shouldn't lose any strength or mobility, but it was about a year maybe a little more until I really felt 100%. It's a slow recovery but it's worth it and you're realistically good after about 7-8 months.
