Shoulder Dislocations

Hey everyone,

Sadly my season is probably over due to a shoulder dislocation. It’s such a common injury in skiing so I plan on making a series during my recovery on my IG / YouTube. I’ll highlight initial recovery and appropriate progressions along with prevention once recovered!

would this be something anyone is interested in?

i’m pretty sure both my shoulders are eternally fucked up from years of slamming on them

No dislocations, but I can tell my shoulders suck. Especially when doing a golf swing, it's extra noticable how they lack flexibility. Mainly my right one cus that's the side I crash to most

It's been recommended that I have surgery to stabilize my right shoulder. I've been through it multiple times, most recently this summer, which is also the first time I did any real PT on it and oh man did it help. Shoulder felt stronger than it had in years but I've lapsed on keeping up with the exercises, so this series would help motivate me to go hard on the shoulder strengthening again.

Popped my left shoulder 6 time playing Ultimate in college. Missed 2 years skiing then got surgery, then in my first season back, I did my other one. Shoulders suck. Just cut my arm off please

I dislocated my shoulder on Christmas eve. Just sat back on my skis coming off a cat track and my elbow hit a mogul. BAM my shoulder was out. I was still skiing down and realized... shit wasn't right. Sat down for a minute and tried to use my pole to pop it back in but realized pretty fast that it wasn't going back in, had to ski the rest of the bump run and make a sketchy traverse out to the road and skied all the way down with that thing down in my armpit. Had to go to the ER and have them very expensively pop it back. Took one day off skiing and it felt better. Been skiing regularly (everyday) since then and haven't popped it back out. I think i got lucky but we'll see.

Don’t take a chance of it becoming a chronic issue. Rehab, and rehab correctly

I"ve had multiple AC separations on both sides so I work my shoulders pretty hard in the gym. Probably why I got back so quick. Don't worry I go full Jerry Rice all summer with the weights and plyos. Won't be any of that until the skiing stops in May or June though. I'm super old I gotta get my days in cuz I'll be dead pretty soon.

Yes please. I dislocated both shoulders on separate occasions while skiing and now have reoccurring impingements which is probably from the initial injuries? Maybe not. Anyways, yes please.

Andrew Pollard landed on the podium in Andorra only a few weeks after a shoulder dislocation. Sounds like you need to do more PT.

Damn heal well man best wishes

btw-my shoulder I dmed u about a while back, it’s still screwed up probably worse, I can push front delt against seat of Jeep and lean in hard and fast and it’ll pop and feel better for a day but as soon as I sleep on it , it’s back to being in pain

After all the tricks and progress I made this season, an edge catch while reverting ended it

Shoulders are tough OP. I tore a whole lotta connective tissue in my shoulder ~4 years ago and it still feels funny... Listen to your physical therapist! Don't push it!

Can't agree more re the recurring impingements. Had a lot of subluxations in one shoulder and the other took a nasty close call where i felt it going. Now i seem to have nerve and tendon issues that come and go and never fully resolve and it seems like impingements.

It's poor comfort, but I find a small silver lining in that I analyze what I'm doing when I ski more thoroughly to prevent injuries these days, especially those shoulder poppers. I'm not just sending as recklessly as I used, and instead I'm making a plan B when choosing lines and thinking of ways to challenge myself that involve less risk of trauma.

OP: Asks if people would be interested in their series

Everyone in the thread: "But have you heard the tale of MY shoulder injury...?"

Well yeah. Describing the reason we're interested in his series.

Oh that’s been me for the last 5 seasons. I’ve been pretty lucky those 5 seasons without really any injury. This crash was on a revert to forward. A move we’ve all done thousands of times. Sometimes it’s just unlucky in our sport.

My worst injury came from standing in a lift line and just falling over, how’s that for luck ?
