Should steroids be allowed in baseball?

I'm doing my senior paper on the topic that steroids shouldn't be allowed in baseball. I just seeing if there were any good counter arguments on why they should be so i can make sure i can cover them in the paper

Make sure you somehow defend the point that steroids create more offensive power and excitement. They create more home runs and fans are drawn to the game by that offensive excitement and explosiveness. Look at how popular MLB got in '98 when Sosa and McGwire were duking it out for the single season record.

The moral crusader part of me says no, But then again if you think about it, you wouldn't have the level of playing that we have today. Its not a baseball movie but its about ben johnson. Watch the 9.79 30 for 30. Theres a good quote from it. They basically said if you weren't doping, You weren't gonna win shit. And that seems to be the case today in most professional sports. Not just baseball.

Why not? They should be allowed in all sports.

Everyones doing them, so its like, our roided up guy beat your roided up guy.

Do you not think that cocaine helped '70s and '80s players? They were probably so wired they could see the stiches on the ball, all amped up in the 9th inning.

Totally all stolen from Bill Burr.

hell yes they should be allowed. With the amount of money players earn, I expect to see super athletes performing super human feats. I want to see 140 mph fast balls...home runs bombed out at over 600...bases being stolen like they're solid gold sitting on the corner in teh gheto....I want to be left speechless all the time.

State the fan base that A-Rod grew from his skill even though he was using steroids. Also Bring up the whole problem in the Dominican Republic in which players try to overcome poverty and use steroids at a young age, drop out of school, and hen only a few make it pro. And then they sell and bring steroids to the MLB

Yes I think that steroids should be used in all sports as long as the person wants to use them. Genetics already make the it an uneven field some people are genetically superior than others. Steroids makes you the best player you can be, and if you don't care about the side effects later in life then go for it. If everyone took them baseball would be so much better to watch.

ehhh youre kinda forgetting the fact that genetics are not something you can choose. If you leave the option open for people to take steroids, it forces a players hand to take steroids when otherwise they would not have. In a completely steroid free field they may have had the best natural competitive advantage. Now they are being outperformed by people who make the choice to destroy their body, effectively forcing them to take steroids to get back to the top spot.

you could make an argument in your paper for a steroid league as a separate entity from a steroid free league

no because it's cheating..... but since when the fuck do americans care about morality in competition?

ok serious answer time. steroids have no place in baseball. as great as it would be to see faster pitches, longer home runs, faster runners, steroids should not be allowed in any sports. sports draw allure from natural physical wonders that excel at whatever sport they play, making them even more amazing than some juiced up caveman who can hit a 600 foot homerun. If we want baseball to turn into a roid race and have every player juiced we would lose what sports are all about. The best of the best should be determined not by the steroids taken or the HGH, but by the true and natural ability of the player compared to the rest

Steroids made baseball an AMAZING game to watch. Arguably one of the most entertaining times for baseball during the most recent steroid era when barry, sammy, etc, mark mcguire were hitting BOMBS everyone loved it. Everyone was doing steroids, and only a handful of people got caught. Many people think that the majority of NFL and MLB athletes have been on a cycle atleast once before.

Im not for open steroid use across all levels, it would be terrible for high schoolers and college ballers trying to get better in terms of body development. But at the pro level, as long as its kept relatively quiet im fine with people using if if they choose. Baseball is arguably a dying sport and needs some serious revival. Going to the games is fun but watching on TV is so dam boring. The average age of the most recent world series viewer was around mid 50's. Kids arent interested in plyaing ball anymore. We need roids to get us back into the game

Yes. Sports are just entertainment and steroids make the game more entertaining. When you break it down athletes are nothing more than entertainers.

i was in chicago over the summer and went to the white sox vs. yankees game; the first game A-Rod played after getting suspended for steroid use... i have never heard such loud "boooo"ing in my entire lifetime. "A-Roid," they were calling him lololol

I think it's best that it remains illegal. Once the door for it opens, where does it end? What kinds of steroids science will have 20 years from now? Imagine what professional sports would be like in the future. They'd be completely different sports then they are today. Sports are already progressing faster every year and legalizing PEDs would only accelerate it even more. They already have a huge impact on professional sports and I think that's more than enough.

Also, the difference between pro and college/minor leagues would be tremendous. It would again be like two different sports. It'd also create more of an incentive for college/minor league and even high school players to dope. I can see justifying hurting your body to play better at a professional level, but for the others where it only slightly increases their chances of playing professionally someday, that's a whole nother story.

Well, if they were allowed it wouldn't be cheating... That's the point of the thread.
