just saying, the reason people called the states a melting pot isn't because they retained strong cultural attitudes. it was actually the exact opposite, all the different and unique cultures just blended together into one, homogenous american culture. people changed it in the last few decades to try to make it mean multiculturalism, but even now, if you think about it, when you throw a bunch of things into a melting pot, they don't exactly retain their form, it all just becomes one big mess.
