Should Marijuana be legalized?

not if you do it in the right amount of doses, then you can acctually make you smarter, and it hightens your senses, like after i have smoke maybe 2 hoots, and go and do something... i have more energy. and what marijuana does to one person doesnt nessisarely mean that everyperson that does it will have the same effect
 
marijuana is the healing of the Nation!!! blaze the fyah forever how can you be against something that stimulates your thought process?? its so good for you in everyway. oh and Bill Clinton smoked weed he was the best president ever, and hes pretty sucesful and he had goals in life, look what he has done in terms of charity for AFrica, even after he was president.

I have goals in life too, i get good grades, im all set for going to college, ganja just helps you along when you need some meditation
 
no becasue i know kids who do drugs and if marijuana was legalized it wold have kids do more hardcore drugs.

as of right now marijuana is on the top list on the war on drugs(on par with cocain and herion) yet weed is not harmful or addicting. so while contless us taxpayers dollars are making it so little jimmy and his friends cant blaze, the government is having to hand out school vouchers for underprivlidged familys because urban citys private schoools are too crowed and dont have enough funding for more teachers, buildings, and books. GYM teachers are teaching math.

- Government could put a sin tax on it (having more money to put towards education, etc.)

like i said above a tax would be great, but it would be wierd to go into a convienece store and buy a 20 bag of heties just like your buying a pack of ciggaretts or a 6-back of miller.

like people have said proabition just leads to organized crime such as drug lords and the mafia. yet this time its not because of an addictive and harm full substance rather a plant that gets people high.

 
dude, i probably know 40 or more people that smoke weed everyday and would STILL score higher on the SAT then you and will make probably twice as much money as you someday. You dont smoke weed i assume so u probably dont have any close friends that blaze alot...making your judgment just complete shit.
 
I didn't read shit, but they should legalize it and pay of healthcare with the tax and reduce our taxes
 
actually i take that back. america has enough problems as it is. we dont need eveyone running around baked. but it doesnt matter what any of us think anywyas. the government would never legalize it.
 
Ive hear that the only reason its illegal is cuz of the tobacco companies. They fear compition and got it to be illegal.
 
Oh, so nicotine isnt at all harmless. Im pretty sure cigarettes are way more fucking harmful then weed. I think it all matters on how much you smoke if your worried about dying. Fuck it id rather die when im like 60 then have to suffer when im like 75 because of arthritis. But, it would be fun to have parkinsons.

Just because there are smart people that smoke weed is immaterial. They do not become smart by smoking weed. I can guarantee you that they would not score lower if they did not smoke. If anything, they would be higher. That is the most bogus point I have ever heard to say that there are intelligent people that smoke weed, so it can't possibly make you stupid.

You may think that I have never smoked. wrong, I have, so I do have basis for judgement and I do have experience and many friends that do it more regularly than I. And I can tell you from a first hand perspective that I have definately seen the intelect of smart individuals recede due to the persistent use of marijuana.

Legalization will never happen as it probably never should.

im sorry but most people that i know that do pot would never even think of doing anything heavier. and a few kids i know do mabye x and shrooms, but they did that stuff around the same time they started smoking weed, there also the dumbest people that i know. i know people that have been smoking weed for 40 years and they have no reason to get a heavier drug because they are still satisfied with the high they get from thc.
 
i could write a long thought out essay on this, which i would really like to do, but instead ill write an abstract of sorts:

Marijuana can be harmful if used incorrectly. With overuse, it can lead to addiction and, as with any smoke, cause permanent lung damage. However, the benefit (getting high) normally outweighs the cost (monetary and health). The government spends billions of dollars per year attempting to control the supply of illegal drugs, dollars which could be spent on education, healthcare, etc. Also, with the illegal nature of drugs and drug dealing there is associated violence due to money conflict. If I decide I don't want to pay for my weed, the dealer isn't gonna go to the police and say I stole from him, but will probably have me fucked up pretty bad. If it were legal, we could control its sale and distribution to avoid these violent conflicts. More effort could be spent on education to encourage responsible use, rather than simply telling kids not to do it. When kids don't know how to use it responsibly, they end up as the "stereotypical pothead" and smoke far too often. Marijuana is an excellent way to relieve stress, have fun, and is also useful for meditation and introspection. Again, responsiblility is the key. Just as we are to be responsible users, the Government is responsible for our health. By legalizing marijuana, they can eliminate the associated violent crimes and encourage more responsible use.

Half of the U.S. prison population is incarcerated on drug-related charges.

Upon repealing prohibition, the crime rate (excluding alcohol violations) decreased significantly

The demand for drugs will never decrease no matter how high the price is, so supply controls (border guarding, busting dealers, etc.) will never cause a decrease in usage.

Amendment 44 is currently on the Colorado ballot in November. This amendment will make it legal for anyone over the age of 21 to posess less than an ounce of marijuana. In legislations polls, they are pretty certain that this will pass. There are millions of voters over 18 in Colorado that burn, and millions of others that don't and will still vote for it. There is way to much taxpayer money wasted on our judicial system to bust such petty offenses. It will still be illegal to sell, grow, or smoke in public. Everyone does it anyway, why not let our taxes go to more usefull things like education. I will be voting yes on Amendment 44.
 
so if this passes, how do the smokers get their weed? are they gonna liek set up establishments like in Amsterdam? im just curious to see hwo thats gonna work out. Also, if you buy ur weed in colorado and smoke it in nevade for instance, thats illegal right?
 
i'd like to see it decriminalized so you can posses small quantities for personal use (say, up to a half ounce?), but have them keep certain restrictions on it so people stay sensible. No driving/smoking, no possession under 21 (i'd prefer 18), etc.
 
damn i dont see why people think marijuana is so bad. alcohol and ciggs are so much worse. I smoke and booze all the time and I have an A in every class so far. It does not effect your motivation unless you suck at life and just sit around and blaze 24/7
 
People keep talking about how IF weed was legalized then people wuold just be toking up all over the streets. Well alcohol hasn't been legal for forever, and do you see people drinking all over the streets now?

And secondly, all the dueschebags who keep saying weed is so bad for you, it makes you feel like you are invincible: You have NEVER SMOKED WEED, so don't pretend like you know what you are talking about.
 
No it will still be illegal to sell it, just not to posess less than an ounce. There are definitely some vague issues surrounding the ammendment.
 
Stupid comment.

Weed is a PLANT and is illegal in it's PLANT form. Nothing is altered chemically, it's here as God or whoever intended it to be.

Opium is prepared from the poppy and has to be ALTERED. People used to chew on it for a coffee like buzz. Only after chemically altering it do you get morhpine/condine/etc...as far as I know you can legally grow a poppy.

 
if the government honestly wants to minimize the pot problems today they should leagalize it. if they leagalize it then they can regulate it. Right now it is the same fine to sell pot to a minor as it is to an adult. By doing this it would make pot harder to obtain by younger people where the majority of pot use lies. judy look around in schools anyone will tell you that it is easyer to get almost any illegal drug than it is to get alchol or tabacco products.
 
Yeah I totally agree that making it legal would totally destroy the quality.

I think it should stay illegal though, because if it were legal there wouldnt really be any social aspect left to it. When I smoke with my friends half of it is finding somewhere to do it, or at least before I got a license. Everyone says it should be legalized immediately but it would just be the next step towards legalizing other drugs, because then pot will just be "another drug" and people might forget about it and start doing acid habitually or something.
 
yea this guy makes sense, because opium does have to be altered. think of it, you can eat weed and get high, but when was the last time someone ate poppy seeds and was buzzing?
 
it really is irrelevant if you have to chemically alter the opium to gain any dangerous effects. I was making the point that the guy who said legalize it because it simply is a plant, is a poor argument because the base of heroin is a plant. salvia, shrooms, are all forms of plants and you can get high off those also. some are legal, others barely in some places. im not saying weed shouldnt be legalized, im torn between the positive and negative effects.
