Should I Switch to Telemarking?

Ive been thinking of switching to telemarking- really haven't been in the park much this year, really liking skiing trails and finding the best snow- so should i make the switch? - how much fun is tele? thanks

tele is funif u learn it properlly but skiing is better. u can still do park shit on tele also but i would recommend staying on skiis

hahahaha, i thought the title was "should i switch to telemarketing..."

anyway, yeah, give it a go, i hear its a lot of fun....if you like it, keep doing it, if not, well, as long as you rented gear you're not going to lose any money. Just don't go out and buy a whole set up without trying it..

this dude near me skis tele in park and what not. hes sick, and doesnt do that knee duck thing. i would personally want to try it sometime

if you want to then switch. I give props to anyone who does that.

Saw a guy at mt snow last year 270 on pret 270 out then backflip.

At the bottom I caught up with him only to realize he was on tele's. I nearly shat myself that he was able to do all that on them.

umm, go for it, but don't be one of those kids you see that has the "freeride bindings" that have so much tension that they can't even lift up their heel and make a proper tele-turn, if your going to do that just stick with alpine.

give a try, its actually a little easier on your knees than alpine (given your strong enough) but you dont have to switch, i do both, if its just gonna be a groomers and park day i bring my alpines, but if their is powder and trees to be had then ill tele.

its wicked sick if ur hiking stuff to get better skiing. definatly more of a woods, backcountry, all mountain sort of thing. go for it

it looks like fun to try but unles your really into it it seems like its a lot of work. I'd say go for it though because everything is worht a try. I wouldnt mind trying it for a day

if he doesnt do the "knee tuck" thing, then what is the point of teleing. the whole purpose of teleing is to tele, not just ski with teles on. anyways, its worth a try. ive done it before, it wasnt my thing, but i know a ton of people who love it. my school has a tele team, alot of them post on freeheelife, and i mean, i respect it and i ski with telers alot, its just nor for me

im gonna try it this year and if i like it ill def get a setup because id love to ski deep snow on teles

get a pair of twins and rip the pow. if i didnt live on the east i would harldy ever go in the park and i might telemark but the only thing my hill has is a park

definatley try a buddies first cuz its a huge change so it would stink you realize you hate it. But yeah, my dad does it, its so much different, free heel and all. But give it a go! be ready for some sore legs though

are you a homosexual? if so, and if you like doing squats all day long. Dude, I telemarked fo 2 years, and it sucked.

there was a kid doing rails and 3s on telemarks in my park it was pretty cool if you ask me. i think it would help ur normal skiing skills. give you more balance. maybe no switch all the way but do both?

do it if you want to traverse all over and get some gnarly ass lines, you will save so much time by having teles if you traverse alot. That seems to be a good benefit if you just want to hit alot of untouched pow

I switched over this year, and I love it. Park isn't that hard, and if you are halfway decent at riding switch on alpines you will be able to pick it up fairly quick on teles. The first few days you might get frustrated and feel like your not getting anywhere. Just keep at it, it took me about 5 days to get comfortable enough to hit a small rail, then a few more days to try switch stuff.

Whoever was talking about it above, there really isn't any need to drop a knee in the park when landing. If you like it then go for it, but its not neccessary. I don't really think he meant he doesn't drop a knee at all, thats just stupid. That's what tele is about.

i leared to tallywhack before i went downhill.... fix the heel fix the problem.. i got hit by a runaway tele ski and when his buddy came down to get it.. i handed him a screw i keep in my pocket and told him to fix his heel. i dunno its harder but ive never met a tallywhacker who is not having telle god complex. and anyway ill never drop a knee for a face shot

^telemarking is when u basicly dont have a back binding. Therefore you turn and tuck your knee to like ur ski and ur heal comes up. Kinda like x-country how they dont have the back but its kinda different I think.

someone help with that description it sucks pritty bad

ok i know what you meen ther are a few at my home hill who have skis like that yeah i knwo what you meen you could still hti jumps couldnt you iam not sur about a rail but maybe a jump

Telemarking is sweet, especially if you do a lot of backcountry. The only reason I haven't tried it is because I'm lazy and I spent too many years skiing moguls to really have fun on them.

I saw a tele park video once, it was some of the sickest shit I had seen, butters on teles are tight.

But that said, i wouldnt switch, but if you want to learn something new, go for it. I know a kid with the hippi stinx and they are sick lookin, lighter, but pretty much the same ski as the seth.

i really want to try tele-ing out too...it looks like itd be alot of fun. plus telemarkers are really hot, not all of course, but most younger ones are quite attractive.

No, anything you can do on alpine you can do on teles. The only exception would be nosepresses, but I wouldn't completely rule them out yet.

^ yeah you can i remember a sick part in a movie with a guy going all out on teles i want to say it was a warren miller but not posetive

^ o yeah um that was in warren millers journey. during the segment at brekenridge i want to say it was the ride and rails compitition. i no it was in journy tho, the tele was doing some mad rails

tele is sooooo fun. and you can still do most park stuff if your a confident skier. switch takes work but its so fun cause you can pop a ton cause your heels not atached. if you switch and then try to alpine again later it feels sooo bad cause the free heel is actually quite comfey and is alot more fun in the park than you would think. i tele on a pair of rossi scratch fs and it is sooooooooooo sick. i cant even explain it in words. thats why this post is so long. having said that, its not for everybody. but if it looks like fun to you try it. and if you make it past the initial frustration of relearning turns and switch, it becomes so much fun. i will never go back until i am old and blow out both my knees in a horrific crash
