Should I get a lens hood?

I was wondering if spending the $25 for a lens hood is worth it. It would be for a canon 28-90mm lens. I think it would help more keeping the water spots from snow off the lens then light out it isn't a very deep hood.I also wouldn't mind hearing about any other accessories that are useful that improve images.

++++Karma for any Help. Thanks

Which lens hood are you looking at? One of the 'deeper' ones might help a bit but one of the shallower ones wouldn't really do much but would let more light in.

Shallow: http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/CA4355/

Wouldn't of thought it would make that much difference but at $25 it might be worth giving it a go and then reporting back if it does in fact help.

At the end of the day it is a bit of a toss up you can either clean the lens more often whilst keeping the light admitted high or clean less with less light admitted (in theory).

Having not tried it I can't say for sure it would help.

Thanks i was thinking the shallow one i wanted a deeper one but couldnt find one that fit the lens. I looked at the links you sent me would the deeper one fit my lens? I know the 2nd shallow one is the recommended one for it.

they have rubber hoods as well. I got one at a camera shop otherwise i'd give you a link. its pretty sweet in that it folds up so it can be a shallow or deep hood.

I'm not sure if it would fit your lens - best to send them (wherever you buy it from) an email to check beforehand. If it is of a similar size to the shallow one it should fit but I can't be sure.

A lens hood is a great investment considering the number of shots it will save for you. I'd do it for sure!

Thanks for all the advice I sent a few e-mails checking sizes but im going to get one Its not much money

+Karma for all who helped

it helps with certain light situations, many you will come across skiing on a sunny day... but you should think about saving that money for a better lens

I would always suggest a lens hood or a filter, ethier or...i have always used lens hood, but you should use one or the other to protect your lens. I have heard so many story of them saving lens from smashing...deffinetly worth the investment
