Should I get a cat?

I'm living by myself for the first time and I'm thinking about getting a cat. However, I've never had a cat or really had any friends or family with cats. What are the pros and cons? Are they a lot of work? And what do I do with it when i move out? Also...kitten or grow-up cat?

I love my kittah. Cats are fairly low maintenance. Feed them in the morning and night and clean their shitbox whenever they pee or poo. Also expect them to vomit every now and then. They like to hide when they vomit and they seem to like to run to the carpet instead of the easy-to-clean tile kitchen. Get a younger cat like just under a year old trust me dude you'll be happy with it

i prefer dogs, but it depends on you really. both need work wen they're young, but once they're older i guess cats need less work. i like dogs cause i kinda think that they actually seem more like a pet, like something that exists and does things. some cats kinda just come and go wenever and u dont see them. unless its an indoor cat, then obv its diff. dogs actually bark if someones at the door, or whine wen they need to pee, or enjoy doing things with you (most of the time). cats kinda just do w/e. atleast imo. and for some reason cats dont like me as much so that might have somthin to do with it. i try to just pet them and be nice, but they're never nice back.

True that, If a cat is by itself, it'll be the most bi-polar little bitch ever. My little sis has a cat and it's now alone since my dog passed and that thing pisses me off so much sometimes, I mean sure they are soft and you can pet them but if you have a yard or something get a Dog, they are just a bit more labor intensive and are so much more awesome IMO then a cat.

In a few years when I have either a yard or a house that will legally let me have pets, I'm getting myself another dog for sure

Cliffnotes: Dog's are Man's best friend not cats.

cats do love you back, they are awesome, ive had both cats and dogs, at the same time, i love both, but i would rather start off with just a cat if its your first pet by yourself

I would love to have a dog but I'm a college student and just don't have the time. Cat seems perfect because they are somewhat solitary and easy maintenance. I figure I could get an automatic cat litter box and then it would be really easy to take care of. So a cat around 1 year old would be better than a kitten? How difficult are cats to litter train?

pretty much, dogs have owners and cats have butlers.

i have a cat and i love her. she doesn't have a litterbox. (if you can go this route, DO IT, it's so easy) and she does play with me.

cats are hillarious.

and kittens have a lot of energy- young cats are good.

get a kitten and get a longhaired cat. they are so much better and furry and they are amazing too pet. just give your cat attention and love and he'll love you back. oh yeah and get a male because females are bitches, males love belly rubs.

Dont get a pet in college. Everyone i know has in one way or another regretted it. Even if you enjoy it, it just isnt fair for the animal. You wont be around for it very much and training it will be hard. If you absolutely had to get one, the deadline was the beginning of summer. That way you have the entire summer to train it and make sure it works out. You could always get a fish.

Honestly if you live by yourself and you are in college, do you really want to walk your dog everyday and feed it everyday and pick up its shit everyday? No. Cats are sick. They are super low maintenance, they can feed themselves, clean themselves, they don't need a lot of attention if you are super busy, and they are super cuddly and are fun to play with. Dogs are cool too, but they are a lot of work.

cats are ill. my cat plays fetch with me and stuff like a dog does but its calm and doesn;t slobber all over like a dog. a cat is really easy to have and as long as your not a bitch to it, it won't be a bitch back.

I keed. Don't get a mini horse.

Get a kitten, and make sure it is fixed. If they don't get fixed, the males piss all over the place and the females get knocked up. If you love the kitten from day one it will love you just like a dog.

I can meow anywhere in my house and my Spaghetti will run to me an meow with me, its the greatest.

HAHAHAHA that just reminded me of before we got our cat fixed. When she saw a male cat in the window ooooh man you should have seen it. Fuckin horniest behavior I have ever seen

Go to the pound aka "Death Row" and find a kitten. Sure the Humane Society is fine, but I mean so many animals die at the pound because there are too many strays and because the people there think they are unfit to have homes. All the cats and dogs have either been found on the side of the road, dropped off at the top of my driveway or found at the pound. I found six kittens about 5 years ago in the woods and they are the best cats ever, and I don't even like cats.

if you get a cat def. get one from the pound. you save its life and its just as good or better than any other cat. i had a cat. it was an outside cat tho so it wasnt every cuddly. it loved to lay with other cats adn his name was buddy. then sadly one day it got killed by a fox and drug under my neighbors deck.

our dog from the pound was sick tho. personally id say get a dog becuase i think theyre more fun to play with. and plus you dont get dead things on your porch.

How do you find out if your wife loves you more than your dog?

Stick them

both in the trunk of your car for a day, and see which one is still happy to see you when you let them out.

My old dog used to bring back tons of shit, like the head of a four-pointer, and half of a woodchuck. She would also get sprayed by a skunk, kill the skunk, then we would clean her up for like half of a day, then she would find the dead skunk and roll around in it and bring it back to the house.

I loved that dog.

get a cat and lots of cat nip because then ur cat will be really funny ... they are pretty low maintenance just make sure they dont get fat because then they get diabetic aka my cat and then they are a shitload of insulin and money so it sucks

yesss! we just recently got our second cat after our first died a couple years ago and this little fucker is nuts, he's hilarious, i guess it all depends on what personality your cat has, we got when he was 3 months and it took 2 days to train him to pee and poo in his box and he has never done his business elsewhere in the house. he plays fetch with stuffed mouses

Go for it mang, just get a potty trained one from the shelter. You save a cats life that way, and you dont end up with shit in your room and piss on your floor like Im dealing with right now because my puppy isn't potty trained yet.

Get a cat. They are very independent, and you can just leave them in the house for long periods of time. Dogs on the other hand need attention, and need oto be walked all the time.

cats rule.

'nuff said.

well maybe not nuff said, i wanna say that im also getting a cat soon since my apartment is gettin kinda boring with out one and i miss my cat from back home

Well I'm sure he's going to school and/or working. A cat would be a great first pet because they are low maintenance. Dogs are like girlfriends. There are different types of dogs with different types of personalities just like a girlfriends. They have specific needs. A cat will still love you, but they don't need attention 24/7.

depends on the cat. my cat is outside most of the time but when he gets in hes coming to me and all. and he is fucking cute. cant take take a picture cause hes outside right now lol but hes black with long fur. and his name is paco. hes a killer haha.

This is my cat Darth...the most badass cat ever. He died at the age of 16 about 4 years ago. BAMF till the end. Loved the c-nip.

two of my cats are quite boring and sleep all day and the other one (who by the way is the dopest cat ever) is an outdoor cat that i found with a broken paw outside. he healed up to the point where you wouldnt even notice, and he stays outside during the day then comes in at night. its kind of cool because he never uses the litter boxes and instead will go to the woods around my house, he's terrified of the road so i dont have to worry about him getting hit again, and he's baller as fuck. first off, i guess he thinks he owes me something for taking him in because he always kills stuff and makes it a point to give it to me, (thoughtful but i dont always like having dead chipmonks dropped on my lap) second, whenever im outside he follows me around wherever i go if im walking, and third, he uses so much energy during the day that he just crashes at night. he pretty much jumps up on me and just falls asleep in the crazyest positions and then once he's asleep you can pick him up and move him without him ever waking up. so i guess it really depends on the kind of cat you get, some are boring and others are awesome. just thought id let you know...

Ok, here's the only problem. I'm a senior in college this year and when I graduate in the spring I have no idea what I'll be doing. If I decide to live with my rents for a while I won't be able to take the cat because my mom has allergies.

However, I'm thinking of getting a kitten from my friend's barn, or the animal shelter. Is it realistic to plan on returning it to the barn (or shelter) when I move if I can't take it with me? Or since it would be a house cat for so long would it be really bad to just let it loose on the farm again?

Ideally I'd like to keep it if all works out, but I'm just trying to think ahead.

looks like my cat, hes all black with yellow eys, he fucked up mad small rodents. hes still alive and wel at the ripe age of 14.i wouldnt reccomoned getttin a cat if your in college you wont be able to take care of it enough. and it wont be loved as mucha s it should be.

dude cats are the shit! get a kitten, dont let it go outside, and fuck with it a bunch when its small...it sounds mean but your cat turns out awesome, the last cat i had was the coolest cat ever, then it died, and now we have one whos basically as cool

Shit yeah! That was the best cat ever. We grew up together, so he was my brotha from anotha motha! Since he died though, I've felt him rub up against my legs if I'm standing in the kitchen or something. I know it's him because he used to be pretty boney.

cats are awesome. i didn't really like them until we got one. She's such a beast brings back birds and mice. her names kitty. simple and fitting. Get a cat

100% Truth. Cats are the shit if you get one with a good personality... if you get a cat that is active and will come up to you and chill on your lap you are going to absolutely love it. Just make sure you don't get one that is fat and hides and sleeps or eats all day.. they are no fun. Go to a local shelter and look at all the cats and watch how they interact with eachother and yourself and pick the one you like. I would get a lil' kittah if I were you... they are so adorable when they are little fluff balls no homo
