some people say it helps prevent cracking edges on rails but for me that's never been a problem the problem i have is catching edges with sharp edges on rails, and if you have a pvc set up you will be hitting you definitly want to because otherwise you'll catch like crazy. But it's not really necessary and if you don't do alot of rails i wouldn't recomend. Another thing is you can also dull them just under foot for rails.
