Should I do shrooms?

I was researching some stuff on Shrooms for a informational poster for school and read some of the stuff and Shrooms seem to be a fun drug to do with little consequences granted I take the right amount and I don't get the wrong shroom or it's rotten and have a someone sober to make sure I don't fall of a cliff or something. I have not done any other drug aside from some alcohol and cheap cigars. My main motive to do shrooms is I want to see funny shit, that's pretty much it. Some said I should smoke weed first but I'm not sure why I just don't really want to do it, I'd rather just do shrooms. Any thoughts? Also if it helps I'm 16 and weigh like 180

Also so congrats to me for this being my 1000th post

If you have any psychological issues other than depression, don't. A buddy and I were chillin and drinking some beers and toking bowls. This kid from AK that asked to tag along (scrub) got on our level. After an hour he said he felt dizzy, then flopped on the street having psychotic convulsions. Remember him saying "I'm falling into infinity", an ambulance ride and sedatives followed shortly after for him. Moral is, take baby steps, psychosis is some real shit.

(from just beer and weed)

You're pretty young. I mean that doesn't mean you can't do it but in my experience things are better when you wait. And "wanting to see funny shit" is not the right reason to do shrooms. Psychedelics are really introspective and can definitely have a lasting impact on your life, personality, and outlook. You really have to eat a lot of shrooms to get strong visuals. I mean if you just want to see shit, you could try to get some salvia. I really don't like it, but it wears off a lot faster than shroom and you'll see more taking less. It isn't really a trip like LSD or shrooms which you can function on, but people get strong 2d visuals, some hallucinations, out of body experiences etc.

Or just smoke weed.

I'd agree with above, I'd wait till I was a little older to do shrooms. You'll have more to appreciate in a couple years. The vibe is very important with shrooms, so when you have a good group of people together it's just perfect. Don't smoke weed if you don't want to, but still, I'd wait.

Do it. If you have a friend/s you feel completely comfortable with just send it.

Most important thing is just remember that no matter what happens it'll be over in a few hours and there's no need to panic

I can't put into words how awesome all of my mushroom experiences were.

Yes, you should, but maybe wait another year or two. And go in to it knowing it can last 6+ hours and will not end. You probably won't see anything funny but your imagination will run wild so have fun with it. (Hallucinations are hard to explain) What you might see is your inner self which is scary for some people. You'll dissect everything going on around you. Your vision but might become wavy. Just be around some good friends and have 8 hours open without your parents wondering where the fuck you are. You might want to try smoking weed first to get used to being out of your element because shrooms can be uncomfortable.

Just know you are not going to die.

I'd recommend smoking weed first or waiting a little while, but you could just do them.

Some advice though.. Don't go into the trip thinking about the bad things that could happen, let it be and enjoy the moment, the trip will be so much better. Also, if you're just starting out, I'd recommend about half- two thirds of an eight. Trips usually last around 6 hours and depending on the shrooms they can range in intensities. But have fun whatever you do, go look at stars and trees too, they're great

i'd say go for it as well. like mentioned previously (both in the comments and in your OP) make sure you're with a familiar group and in a comfortable setting. don't eat them at night/towards the end of the day; you want to experience the daylight hours as much as possible. also i highly suggest going out into a private bit of nature and enjoying them there vs. at someone house. you will definitely have a more "complete" experience in the proper environment.

the only thing that concerns me about your post is your main rational behind seeking out the mushroom is to "see funny shit".....if that's your main objective there are a boatload of other substances that would give you far better results. by no means am i suggesting you seek out anything more extreme than psilocybin, i just hope after you experience a trip for the first time you appreciate it for more than just the visuals.

also to touch on the idea of getting rotten/expired/bad mushrooms; you'll be fine. i'd guess whatever shrooms you end up tracking down will have been throughly field tested. plus a little extra mold never hurt anybody. ;) lastly i never suggest a person to start their first time with a full 1/8th. normally 2g's+a little extra if you're really digging the feeling a few hours later, but of course everyone is different.

happy tripping

Do some research on erowid.org and look around else where on the internet for trip reports. I suggest going out and spending the day in nature and feeling the {vibrations} of nature. Just be smart about it, don't take too much, but take enough that you will actually feel it. Erowid will tell you most of everything you will need to know. Have fun finding them, I've been searching for like two years and still have yet to get any.

Consequences are low in most cases unless you have some underlying psychological issue you don't know about. I know a kid who suffered from minor anxiety but otherwise was fine and after doing shrooms he had to be institutionalized for a bit and developed epilepsy since it dislodged some deep seeded issues. That's the only thing keeping me from doing them. If I didn't know him I probably would've tried them by now but it's always in the back of my mind

Make sure you're in a good mood and have a really good mind set. Have a friend who is sober around you and ensure they know what to do if you start freaking out. Have an open mind. Psychedelic drugs can seriously fuck you over. But start with weed, and work your way up.

one day youre doing shrooms, the next youre a murdering psychopath. Its a slippery slope my friend

While that's a risk of doing any drug that forces serious introspection on the user, I think there are also potential benefits as well. While your connection had a negative experience, I think some people can actually address their issues with the help of drugs like psilocybin. I heard about some study that was done where they gave depressed people psilocybin (see links below). I can't remember if the people were old or not, but they found that it yielded impressive improvement on the users. It seems plausible, because I would assume that being forced to introspect in a euphoric state can make more friendly a lot of the bottled up stuff that was previously too scary/bad/negative to consider.

Again, I think OP needs to age and mature a little bit a) because the young brain is vulnerable to chemical stuff, and b) because with maturity he will make more of the experience, rather than just "seeing funny shit." Yeah, doing drugs is fun and will come with lots of laughs, but the real takeaways can be much deeper than that. Why miss out on the good stuff?

I'm 24, did shrooms a few weeks ago for the first time and loved it.

Just make sure you are with a good crew.

I did it with 2 roommatesI live with, 2 girls who smoke plenty of weed but weren't not prepared for shrooms, if you resist the effects of any drug it aint gonna be fun

Just embrace the awesomeness and you will have a great time.

also do it with tea

According to John Hopkins University psilocybin mushrooms promote neurogenesis. I would say go for it just start off with a low dose.

Remember, it can bring to the surface many of your insecurities and subconscious thoughts.

Psylocin you'll either love it or hate it.

Weird that mushrooms are illegal but Alcohol and Tobacco aren’t.

Happened to me as well for only a moment but I struggled out of it. Can be daunting but usually the tough trips are the most introspective. You just have to accept them.

Never mind, you’re doing it for all the wrong reasons. I would wait.

You really should not just do it just to see "funny shit" so listen to this guy. You should go into the trip with the right mindset.

It's flat out moronic to do drugs for no other reason than to just do them.

Actually I am, and in response to those saying I'm doing it for the wrong reasons, I had no idea about the life changing, and inner self part I just knew of the visual things, could someone really explain that part I kinda understand but like will my views on life really change?

To be honest, only a high dose of mushrooms will earn you some cloudy visuals. Nothing like the sharp, colorful visuals of LSD as I’ve been told. What shrooms does differently than almost all other drugs is that they dismantle your ego, and let your conscious mind observe your insecurities and subconscious/locked away thoughts. That isn’t to say you won’t have a great time, but shrooms tend to do this with great intensity. If you feel your starting to have a bad trip, usually accompanied by a feeling of negative energy look inward at the conscience (Meditate), and this makes you lose any fear and paranoia and be driven instead by this almighty, unstoppable euphoria (mental and physical).

It’s all what you take out of it. Shrooms won’t permanently change you, unless you have some underlying psychotic disease, instead they will show you your true inner self. The intense introspection usually occurs at the peak of the trip, and the pondering and analyzing comes during the comedown. Shrooms are a tool and have been used for thousands of years so treat them as a tool to better yourself and have fun.

The cynicism isn’tt able to touch this because its something that goes beyond this, dog eat dog ego thing. Conscience is part of this otherworldly thing that can't be comprehended with the egos logic. Ego lose can be terrifying but don’t fight it. That’s my advice. Let everything flow and if things do go bad meditate.

look up "joe rogan mushrooms" on youtube. you will have access to a different perspective its your choice whether you want to use it or not. i know people whose lives have been completely altered (for the better) because of psychedelics, and people whose lives remain unaffected. I would wait like 2-3 years before going down that rabbit hole, but I would definitely recommend that you go there.

But if you are having a bad trip wouldn't meditating and looking inward make it worse?

Also, what is Ego loss like?

No, because mindfulness meditation helps to cease the overanalyzing of thoughts. When you meditate you look inward but you do not judge. You let every thought flow through you, observing it without judgment. Judgement is the ego, and philosophically the ego is evil/suffering.

That or preoccupy yourself with stuff to do. It will distract you from the introspective side of the trip but you won’t take away as much from it and still insecurities will arise. You gotta face them sometime, so do it without judgement.

I have had slight ego loss when I meditated for months. It’s terrifying but revitalizing. It gives you a whole new perspective on life. Most people become more openminded and less cynical.

Does anyone have experience with a bad trip? I have always been fascinated by these but never talk to anyone that has experienced them first hand.

I have had a terrible trip. It was literally the worst time of my life and I have had plenty of other shitty things happen in my life. It took me years to get over the psychological damage. I went through nearly everything in my head and completely broke it down to the point of completely crushing everything that I enjoy. Also, once you have a bad trip it is never the same again.

I have had extensive experience with shrooms during and after high school and at this point in my life (I'm 27 now) I would never do them again.

Taking shrooms to "see funny shit" is the worst reason possible. If that's your idea of psychedelics, then prepare to be disappointed.

So much of the pop culture surrounding psychedelics is bullshit. Mushrooms don't make you see purple dinosaurs. Even from an ungodly stupid high dose (which I would never ever recommend) the most I saw was neon fractals whenever I closed my eyes. Usually textures have a "breathing" effect, and differences in light are chromatically exaggerated (shadows become intense blue, light bulbs become bright gold). Aside from that, most of the impairment comes from the way your body processes stimuli (I couldn't tell if my shirt was wet or dry). You become extremely sensitive emotionally, which usually means you laugh uncontrollably at the most mundane things (like my cat's face for 2 hours). The downside is that this can trigger anxiety in some people (through what I call "stimuli claustrophobia"), which gives you a bad trip (this is essentially a panic attack while high on psychedelics).

In higher doses, they can be extremely beneficial for introspection, but only if you're willing to face your demons and have every fiber of your being deconstructed. Sometimes this is the absolute most terrifying experience of your life (shaking, vomiting, crying), and other times its the most beautiful experience of your life (watching the aurora borealis alone while laying in the snow at 4:00 am).

It is not in society's best interests to legalize drugs that make people question the status quo. Caffeine to get you to work in the morning, and alcohol to numb and pacify you enough to not ask questions. Without alcohol people won't work the machines and the spreadsheets.

That sucks man. Psychedelics can go either way with people, that’s why people need to really question and research. Were you just overanalyzing everything? I used to be like that and it too crushed everything that I enjoyed until I took mushrooms.

It also depends on your definition of a bad trip. I’ve had bad moments that seemed to be very beneficial for me at least.

Damn! This thread is an example of the responses from NS that make me happy :)

But to OP, this is my advice. Reiterating what has been said before, be in a COMFORTABLE place, with your good friends.

Make sure you have an entire day to trip, any sort of responsibilities/obligations you suddenly remember will freak you the fuck out. Don't let that be the case.

Vibes are EVERYTHING with mushrooms. Pretty much the deal with all psychedelics, but more so with shrooms. If you are gonna do it, try not to be nervous, be stoked. If you go into your trip with the mindset that its gonna be fucking awesome, you're gonna have the best day ever. If you're feeling nervous at all beforehand, or you think you're gonna freak out, wait for another day.

Remember at all times that it's only a drug. If you feel like you're losing it, take a deep breath, remind yourself that you're in a safe place with people you trust, and you'll be okay.

You will experience deeper emotions that you're used to, and thats okay. Just roll with it, if you break out in laughter until you cry, awesome. If you and all your friends look at each other and break down in tears, thats okay too.

Note: Don't get on top of a high rise apartment and throw massive vegetables into the parking lot. Talking to police tripping shrooms sucks.

this. if you want to see funny shit just smoke a lot of weed. it'll make you laugh, and then fall asleep lol psychedelics are an unexplainable level

Do NOT take shrooms if you're doing it just for a quick giggle. Psys can be a huge mind fuck and given the fact that you have no experience with weed or a similar drug I'd steer clear for now.

Don't ask a ski community, go on shroomery.org erowid.org or 420chan.org/psy/

They'll put you in the right direction, plus plenty of info so you can decide for yourself.
