Should get a soft ski?

alright so i've grown up skiing race skis and just got into park this year. i've got a pair of PEs mounted far back for "new england pow"/all mountain, and need something more poppy to centermount for park. i was thinking about getting something soft (09 teneighties, so basically thrusters), but now i'm worrying i'll manhandle a soft ski like that, because i'm so used to stiffer ones i won't feel very confident on it. i'm also pretty big, at 6'3'' and 180 lbs. my other option is volkl walls, where i'll be more used to their flex and stability, but they might be really similar to my PEs and i'll have kinda an overlap. so basically, am i missing out by not having a playful ski?

also...if there are any ex-racers who switched over to softer skis, their opinions would be super helpful.

I am an ex racer. I stopped racing 2 years ago. So the first year I stopped racing I got the 2007 K2 PE.I used them for park and groomer but I found them too stiff for park, so last year I got the T-Hall and I love them. They are pretty soft so I can have a lot of fun in the park and doing butters. So if you want a really soft ski you could maby go with the T-hall but if you want it a bitt stiffer go with the AR6 because it is still soft so you can have a love of fun. My skis are mounted center.

I have raced for a season, and now ride some pretty soft skis (anthems) so here's my thoughts:

I like the soft skis, especially in the park because they're really fun and you don't have to work to hard to make them do what you want. In your case, since you already have a set of stiffer twins I would go for the softer set that way you cover more of the spectrum.

that's just my opinion

yeah dude you are already have an allmt twin, just go with some 178 anthems i'm sure you'll love them. i'm a little smaller than you but i weigh about the same and my anthems are great. surprisingly they don't feel that soft before you brake em in... super fun ski for sure.

yeah the anthems look good, but i'm pretty set on the teneighties if i get a softer ski. plus since i'm so tall, im goin for any extra length i can get and the salomons are a few cms longer haha. thanks for the help tho

I'm a racer and i love to hit jumps on my race skis even though i shouldn't be. I stick with stiff park skis cuz they are like my racers. i need a stiff ski too cuz i'm an aggresive skier and like ski all over the mountain occasionally

i raced all through school and have skied prophets ever since but this year im going to be doing the same kinda thing as you, gonna be looking into getting my 1st "soft" pair of skis im on a college budget so i might be picking up some last years p3s, its going to be quite a difference in stiffness but i think going softer will be more fun, especially for western new york mountains... or lack there of

get a soft ski for sure. soo much fun. Buttering all over the place. I raced before just like you but there is nothing like lizzies, bacons or ep pros

seriously u guys are fucking retards, he is 6'3 and 180 pounds. do not buy an anthem, do not buy a soft ski.

at the least you should be riding something that is 180, the smallest ski i would suggest for you is a 181 addict, its stiff but with your weight and race background it will be no big deal. look for skis that come in a size of at least 180-190 anything shorter is probably going to be to little. and your going to want a stiffer ski because of your weight and race background, soft skis will be a let down.

maybe an msp, im pretty sure it comes in a 185, im sorry but i cant really think of any other long park skis at the moment, but if you research and find some long ones, send me a pm and ill tell you what i think of the skis and if i think it would be good for you.

good luck

yeah don't worry i'm not gonna get anthems...or any lines for that matter. and i've looked everywhere for a under 90mm waste park ski that comes in like 185 or so (legit 185, not volkl 185) or so but they just don't exist. boone says they're making a park ski in a length like that next year (2010), but thats as close as i can find. oh and props to boone for that.

as of now i'm pretty set on the 181 10th anniversary teneighties. apparently they're gonna be a little stiffer than the thrusters and a little softer than the 08 dumonts, which sounds about right. i basically want a really poppy ski that'll be as soft as i can get without them being noodles under my fatass, cause i'm using them at a tiny hill thats all park. i'm afraid addicts or MSPs will be too similar to my stiff, dead, damp ass PEs. do you think the teneightes will be too soft though? i skied my friends 08 dumonts and REALLY like those, but they're sold out everywhere in 181 and the teneighties were the closest i could find.
