Should Canadians in Ontario be allowed to say they're from "The east coast"?

North coast of the Great Lakes is the only claimable coast for Ontario.

source: my rudimentary knowledge of geography

I think of 3 main areas, west, midwest, and East. Id consider ontario to be east coast. I get they aren't actually the touching the coast but its close enough.

should Canadians from Ontario be allowed to be the biggest dicks when they are resort employees "out west"? Quite the contrast compared to hungover, chill Aussies.

There are resorts in Ontario farther east than my resort in NY and NY is considered east so yeah I'd say go with east.

"East coast," while it can be interpreted as a specific geographic location, in skiing I think it just describes the hills more than anything. "Skiing a small east coast hill" says more about the hill, vibes, conditions, culture, etc than where it actually is in my opinion.

I don't know. I don't really think it matters what you call it. It's the eastern side of North America so who gives a fuck

The answer is no. I have lived in Ontario and Nova Scotia. People in Ontario do not consider themselves from the East Coast...or even East. They are considered "upper canadians". The east coast title is reserved for people in the four Atlantic provinces.

Yes or no

Hmmm, I wouldnt really consider Ontario the "east coast".

I mean it is like the canadian equivalent of the american east coast condition wise. Not much snow, lots of parks ect. Since BC is like the canadian "west coast" and is drowning in snow.

Not sure why you put quotations around "west coast". BC is quite literally located on the west coast.

As for Ontario. I've always looked at it as the "inland sea".

Meh... Its east of center. Though if we were in a geography course, calling Ontario "East Coast" would be silly... I've come to realize that East Coast in skiing means you live east of anywhere that has legit mountains.

Ontario perfectly represents the "East coast" sort of skiing.. Ice 9/10 days ... and slush 1/10 days

Don't forget the 0.02% of the total days of the season where you get legit above the ankle pow on top of that ice.

There have been 0 days in the past 2 seasons where there has been anything even close to pow. Fuck Ontario

I had 3 hours of fat flakes at MSLM last week. Snowed about 25 cms in 4 hours.. i would say that it was a proper "pow" day for us 'East' coast boys

I mean I was being slightly sarcastic with my definition of "Pow".

Above the ankle on top of ice is really just "Dust on Crust" which is about the closest you get to Pow in Ontario.

Of course

It satisfies the 3 main criteria.

- Is it part of North America?

- Is it east of the Rockies?

- Is it icy as all shit?

Maybe in Toronto where the military gets called in for 10 cm. We got 40-50 cm of blower last year. Better pow day then most placed out west can say they've had (nicer snow then pretty much anywhere on the coastal ranges). Just sucks the terrain it fell on wasn't the best..

Yes its the same thing as Buffalo or Rochester.

And trust me people from Buffalo or Rochester will lose their fucking shit if you refer to them as midwesterners.

Honestly WNY hills (Bristol being the exception) are closer to Midwest sized hills than the hills in VT, NH and ME.

Living in Ontario I would have to say yes, we accurately depict East Coast skiing.

Elevation may not be as high but the wind, ice, and slush are all present.

So true, Canadians are fucking assholes

Not totally true. But the ones who come from out east to work in the west are usually the biggest dicks for some reason.

ppl from the east coast of canada are whack, especially ppl from ontario and quebec

this is weird bcuz ppl from places on the east coast such as maine, nh, and vt and are all super friendly

Probably cause most of the ones you've met are from Toronto. Also the ski jock types. Also Québécois who look down on anyone who isn't French quebecer, although that attitude seems to disappear when they leave Quebec.

People from the east of Canada (maritimes) are without a doubt the nicest people in Canada and probably in north America. The general population in Ontario and Quebec are no less nice than BC and Alberta.

Ontario is so east coast that the puddles outside my house right now are deeper than the base at my local ski hill /thread

Your probably right.

I've never experienced the Québecois thing though since I'm fluent in french...

Preacher it, Brother!

The only others I have met that have cone close are those from Minnesota with their "Minnesota nice" slogan.

This

Also Ontario is defiantly not part of the east coast of canada geographically but we have very east coast like ski conditions (icy, not much elevation or snow)

Alberta is west coast ? They have some of the sickest terrain in the rockies man....

Since when does terrain quality equal geographical location haha. Rockies are dope, but they are considered interior BC. They are atleast 8-10 hour drive from the coastal mountain range.

Colorado is called the west and it is 17 hours from the coast!

West is not the same as west coast. I live in Calgary. Definitely western Canada, but definitely not west coast.

Yes, but I as well as most people on this site would say they are "west coast".... seeing how this thread is on how ontario is considered "east coast" when we are easily 5+ hours from the Atlantic ocean..

Just areas man, if you wanna get specific i do agree that the rockies even have areas... just a matter of perspective at a more macro level

Very true. I've always been confused as to why they are even called the west...they are quite literally the middle of the US....it would just get too confusing calling them the midwest I guess
