state your opinion kids, because it's up to US, weather we want it IN or NOT... i'd say it's a go...

State reasons.... FOR OR AGAINST...

The only thing that I watch in the winter olympics is hockey (Go canada!) and this summer i never watched anything at all. I'm not one of the olympics junkies.

I hear though, that the olympics already have too many sports already and they'll be cutting some out probably instead of adding new ones. So I don't think H/P would get into them.

I would be neat if it DID get in but i would care a huge amount.

i dont know, i hate all the rules the fis has, kinda just contrdicts what skiing is about, but i wont say no if they do have it, one way to get out sprt out there.

dont even bring in the FIS into this again, its not excuse. Yes, its ture that skiing lost a lot of its popularity because of the FIS, nad it did split snowboarding in 2 factions-but skiing is allready in 2 factions. They are a beauracracy, but its one that we can always back out on if we dont feel comfortable, before we couldnt because racers opted to stay.

Diamonds... She'll pretty much have to

If it is in the olympics my plan is to move to Nigeria and get citizenship, I would probably be the best skier, then I would go in the olympics. it would be fantastic.

Definitely. Not sure how they would regulate the judging though, I'd doubt they would use pros to judge because a) its quite non-FIS protocol, and b) pros will most likely be out filming. Although, sponsors will want there athletes to compete and get more exposure so I'm not sure. Still, let it be in. I'm sure the event would go off without a hitch, but the judging might be something complained about.

that would be rad if it was, but its not really an olympic type sport ya know. it would be the same as putting snowboarding half pipe in the olympics, and that would suck. it would be nice for skiing to get that kind of attention but it should be saved for X games.

shants; theyre not quite shorts, but not quite pants

all the good riders would fail the drug test, so itd be shitty..,..

Wow. I was just looking at the Olympics web site, and from 1900-1920, Tug-of-war was an Olympic event!

or it would be just like the judging for half pipe snowboard. I remember a few years back this japanese guy took a run through the pipe and all the judges gave him a 7.5 ish run, except the japanese judge who gave him a perfect 10

I for one do not want to see it in the olympics...maybe its just me being selfish, or maybe its more of a preservation issue...but freeskiing isn't about drug tests, judges, and the whole olympic tradition...freeskiing is about you and the mountain, or the rail, or the pipe....not some super-human athlete infested game.

once again....drug tests

Jeepers Creepers, where'd you get the neat sneakers?!?!

hehehe giggle giggle giggle

i think it it should be in the olympics for sure...just get FIS to fuck off.

figure out some really good way of judging without FIS and you will have a great event...2010 fo sho

can't happen ryan. apparently because the olympics are already so big, in order for a new sport to be ratified by the IOC, it has to be brought in under the governship of a pre-existing sports body sanctioned by the IOC. too bad most of us were looking the other way during the ISF vs FIS thing because that was a major turning point. the for riders by riders ISF pretty much fizzled and died after the IOC gave governership to the FIS for some bs i won't get into now (it's a long ugly story, but maybe i'll pick up on it another day). nevertheless, that pretty much set the ground work for 'new school' skiing to ALSO be controlled by FIS rather than it's own agency. i think pipe skiing is supposed to be an exhibition sport at the 2006 italy olympics and probably full sport by 2010 in whistler. but i'll wager money that unfortunately FIS will control it.

^i scrolled down just for that?!? FUCK

yeah james, it is too bad that the IOC has to have the FIS govern it so religously...If they can just sit down with the riders and be OPEN MINDED about how judging should be, rather than being so stiff necked about it then everyone would be happy...

the issues with FIS governing pipe skiing isn't only about the judging. that's just the tip of the iceberg. FIS then controls the qualifying circuit and the sponsorship dollars for them. snowboarders in the olympics are restricted with what they can wear and where they can place their sponsors logos. also, as it is the country that chooses which athletes to send, it is the national teams sponsor logos which are shown. big losses to the riders. now how shitty would it be to ride on a FIS circuit you'd rather not be on knowing you're not going to get the dollars you know you deserve? judging is just one of many downsides to a FIS bureaucracy controlling what could potentially be the competitive side of new school skiing. i personally am all for skiing being in the olympics and i'd like to see slopestyle in there too (for the record one of these days i want to see a slopestyle course with an integrated halfpipe). if FIS runs the olympics, they will try to run the qualifiers. i'd like to see qualification event independent of FIS used (ie xgames, us open, wsi, etc) and FIS have a scaled system for qualifications based on these events. but that won't happen and it's all conjecture until further down the road anyways.
