the issues with FIS governing pipe skiing isn't only about the judging. that's just the tip of the iceberg. FIS then controls the qualifying circuit and the sponsorship dollars for them. snowboarders in the olympics are restricted with what they can wear and where they can place their sponsors logos. also, as it is the country that chooses which athletes to send, it is the national teams sponsor logos which are shown. big losses to the riders. now how shitty would it be to ride on a FIS circuit you'd rather not be on knowing you're not going to get the dollars you know you deserve? judging is just one of many downsides to a FIS bureaucracy controlling what could potentially be the competitive side of new school skiing. i personally am all for skiing being in the olympics and i'd like to see slopestyle in there too (for the record one of these days i want to see a slopestyle course with an integrated halfpipe). if FIS runs the olympics, they will try to run the qualifiers. i'd like to see qualification event independent of FIS used (ie xgames, us open, wsi, etc) and FIS have a scaled system for qualifications based on these events. but that won't happen and it's all conjecture until further down the road anyways.
