Shortening my poles

anyone know how to easily get the grips on/off my poles? i've heard something about dipping them in hot water, but i cant really remember the specifics. help will be much appreciated.

boil a pot of water. stick pole grips in. wait like a minute. take them out, and pull off the grips. they should come off easy. if not, put them back in the water. but with a hacksaw or tube cutter. then put the grips back in the water, wait again, and then bang them back on. done in like 15 min

It shouldnt heart the straps, I didnt use boiling hot water when i cut mine just hot water from the sink and let it sit.

sorry to jack this thread but i wanna do this too but i have the scott poles with the leather straps. theyre pretty worn, will they get fucked up if i put em in boiling water?

nope. i have the same ones and they are just fine. i've cut mine twice so far, and no ill effects. and glad to help you man^^^^^

Sorry to threadjack but I had a question and it doesnt warrant a new thread..Have you guys ever tried taking off grips that are leather? I have these rossy scratch poles with a leather handle and I dont know what to do about shortening them.

i just put a foot into the loop of my hand strap and just pulled with both hands as hard as i could and it came off haha

probly not the best way to do it tho...

quick question!
how do i reatach them? i used wd-40 with my bike grips and that worked alright.
or do i just put them back on and let em sit?

Make sure the grip is nice and warm, put it on the pole, push it on as much as you can with just your hands. Then turn the pole upside down and bang the top of the grip in the ground. The heat makes the grip bigger, so as it cools, it gets nice and tight around your pole (hah)

thanks dude! + k
i tried just dry putting one on while it was warm. then once it was on i realized it was too tall compared to teh other. i couldnt pull it off haha i had to resoak in h20.

also for those wondering. dont boil the water just run you hot tap water for 2 minutes then soak the grips it really just has to be warm water for them to get loose.

I didn't read the rest of the thread, but I just jammed the grips into a door and pulled after i put the poles under hot water. Worked like a charm

Mine didn't melt or even get soft, but to be safe it'd probably be good to have it hot but not bubbling

34 is tooo short

at your height i would do 38

and if you think its too big cut it a little more

dont chop the whole thing and make them too short

i use 34" and im 5'5 and its perfect

haha fuck i def chopped like 6 inches off of mine, they were 52 i think now they are short as fuck but i think theyll be mad good for park

My first time i forgot that the poles go INSIDE the handles, so the poles ended up coming to mid thigh on me hahah
