I dnt know why you would want short pole for powpow. Seems like it would make traversing and planting a pain in the ass.

short poles for skiing powder is counterproductive. it totally ruins your form and it makes getting around a complete pain in the ass. you'd be much better off just not using poles at all.

thats like lowering your truck and going rock crawling, completely fucks up the whole point. why get pow poles if you are going to be bending over to pole plant and end up going over the bars cuz your tips sink, makes no sense

you will be more likely just go backseat and just have awful form. think about it, shorter poles mean you are going to be planting right next to you or beside you, not in front of you.

I rock shorter poles for pow. I mean, they arent chicken sticks like my park pole but they aren't traditional length. They come up to right around my belly button and they are perfect. They don't get in the way much when jumping and they are still long enough to ski properly.

thats only if you ski with your hands at your sides tho. if you ski with proper form.... or shall i say a more race inspired and carver form you have to have your hands up and in front so that you can pressure the tips of your skis. even tho you arent pressuring your tips in pow you still want your hands in front for pow for better stance, i mean look at seth, and hugo they always have there hands up and in front they are never down at their sides.

youre a fucking tool.

and you are still wrong. the pole is shorter, the motion your arm makes to move the pole toward the ground is longer...its planting by your waist not in front of you

wow way to be 7 and resort to calling me a tool. i wasnt trying to say you were an idiot its just that when you pole plant back there you get backseat and that is really bad. anyway, ill just leave it at that cuz i dont want to start a war. but next time try not to just blow up and yell. anyway, short poles are never meant to have correct form anyway so im not sure why we are debating anyway lol. sorry if i sounded like a dick in my last post but whatever

1. My poles are up to my belly like yours. Short but not huge.

2. When you race you are supposed to keep your hands up and plant with a flick of your wrists but those guys look like robots. I always move my arms and plant in front and kind of pull back and end near my waist.

How about we all just ski?

Ok, this is NS. Wur not supposed to really care that much if we pole plant perfectly or not, or if we look like faggots in pink skin suits on gay skis.

short (but not overly short) poles might actually help you big mtn, because they will force you to reach downhill more to plant and not sit all backseat with shitty form

no poles in pow is better...in my opinion.
but those are the size of my park poles idk why youd have those for pow kinda dumb
yeeea issaquah!! rep WA!!

exactly this kid knows what he is talking about. the point of pole planting especially on steep pitches is to get your hips and body down hill so you are not on your tails wheelie'ing around. seriously if you have every tried it you will find you can ski so much faster over more gnarly terrain if you stay foreward.

i mean i never pole plant on regular runs, its just when i get into steep shit where if you dont stay over your skis you are gonna get spanked.

trust me i used to ski like a park rat forever and then did racing for 4 years in college and trust me staying forward and pole planting on steep shit is the way to go, you will never turn back.

It's quite simple.

Rock both poles.

I use short poles that I found in my garage, I use them for everyday skiing.

Long(Normal) Poles for pow days.

well he has a point that proper form has your hands in front, it gets your weight forward, not just racing stance but anything, if you ski with your hands flopping down at your sides chances are you're gonna get backseat and ski like a retard. if you do it right, bringing your hands forward will bring your hips forward and you want to ski with your hips far forward, no matter how steezy you're trying to look, backseat skiing just looks terrible
but yes, short poles make you lean back more because you're planting around your boot instead of closer to the tip of your ski. poles are about keeping your form in check and pivoting around them, at least that's what they were originally meant for

no, it wont. maybe if you ride stupidly short poles, but slightly shorter will just make you reach down the hill more. im 6'3 and i use 44" poles. they are perfect, short enough they dont get in the way, catch when your going switch, etc, but long enough you can still use them as poles. if your hunching over because of your poles, you had form problems already. and if your riding poles short enough that you REALLY have to hunch over, well chances are your a park rat who cant ski anything else anyways

just get the poles you like best,

i use poles about as high as my belly button so when cosidering what most people prefer, a bit to short, but i like em, i also do racing and i just feel ok with my short poles+ in powow i prefer doing treeruns so short turns and not so fast and you really sink away halfway through your turns, thus planting shorter poles becomes easyer because otherwise id have to lift my hands above my head to get those poles up front....

Now forget what i said and just try out different poles and choose the ones you like best!

hahaha oh dear
i skin at 140cm's and ski down at 125...i'm 5'11...that's how i always thought poles were supposed to workit annoys me to see kids with no/short poles try to ski powder, it's pretty much just a waste of snow

hahahahaha havnt laughed that hard in a while.

and to the thread...is that a joke?? why would u waist such a dope pole... no poles in pow is hard enough...let alone using poles that cannot 1. traverse with or 2. pole plant with.
good luck with that.

those are definitely within proper length, they are barely short.

I'm talking about kids who are 5'10 with 25" poles who say that their poles are perfect for skiing pow and steep stuff and whatnot. They are either backseat or hunched over.

umm 44" poles for a person who's 6'3 is definitely too short but w/e, let him ski what he wants
this thread is retarded

I had to ski powder on my invaders and short poles (I thought there was no new snow) and the only way I could keep my tips from diving was to ski backseat. I'm sure it looked aweful but I don't think I wasted the snow.

From personal experience I find waist height is just about perfect. Not too long as to be clumsy, but still long enough that if you're not sucking at skiing then you should be able to pole plant everything. Remember, poles are for planting. If you're not planting then drop your fucking poles because there is not reason for you to have them.

Besides, why would you want ridiculously short poles that don't let you pole plant? When you get good at skiing turning is actually fun when done well.
