Short poles

i have short poles and i have no problem with the trend but recently somebody asked me why my poles were so short... i told him it was for park and he asked how does it help park. i had no idea so im just curious if its just a trend or if theres a reason

I get longer poles hung up all over my shit...but in all honesty its for style and style only, I just tell people who dont know anything that I stole them from a little kid and laugh it off so its like a joke...but in more honesty the kid was a bitch

long poles look wierd on film,

if you ski aggressively, you bend your knees and ski at a lower center of gravity. thus shorter poles.

I don't use poles that much for turning.

so therefore.. Shorter poles = only for balance/style/do not get in the way.

1. It looks retarded when you're flailing around giant poles.2. They get in the way when spinning and stuff.3. You don't need "proper" size poles in the park cuz it's not that steep or anything.

People always say "how are you gonna push?"

After laughing for a short while, I respond by saying "I bend over, and push, just like you."

To me, poles help keep my balance in the air, a reason for having them at all. But, long poles get in the way on landings (jabbing yourself), and kinda suck haha.

i often reply, why do you have long poles?

and state that short poles are to help me develop extra arm strength. even though it doesn't people believe me all the time too.

I use short poles because longer poles get hung up on stuff and short poles make for better looking style. Not that it matters much.

yea i agree with everyone saying they get in the way, and if you go a little off balance and maybe flail a little on a box or whatev they hit together and you just look like a retard

short poles sure do single out park rats. very useless for anything else in my opinion. try pushing yourself along in powder when you have a pole 2 feet long, doesn`t exactly work

Exactly, i went off a big kicker and landed on my long pole witch riped off my basket so i skied around with out one all day. looked like an idot shorter poles are harder to land on.

i know a guy who landed on his pole and he had to get stitches on his ballsac, just a thought

short poles get in the way less. especially landing and riding switch... if you drop the tip down and it catches the snow, the handle immediately goes up for your ribs and it sucks to get hit by a hard object combined with your fist when you arent expecting anything to happen.

and if you are an aggressive skier you arent really using your poles initiating your turn. moguls seem easier to me with shorter poles because the pole planting doesnt jack my shoulder up so much.

i think its actually easier to push as well. just put your hand on the top of the grip instead of gripping the pole like normal. i feel like i can get a stronger push this way.

i always say, swing weight and things like that. when you spin its nice to have the poles in close to your body instead of 3ft long pointy sticks flailing around giving gaper style

i seen a brand new skiier who hadnt had the sense to cut down his poles yet land switch. have the tip of his long ass pole catch and punch himself in the face.

i dunno why but i cant do rails or jumps without poles, they seem to give me extra confidence or else balance or some shit. when im skiing without poles i kind of feel naked.

I usually just tell people that they're so that I don't stab myself when I fall and because regular length poles look retarded while spinning... Sad thing is today I ate shit going through some powder first run of the day and nailed myself in the ace anyways... My poles are 40inches long...

Shorter poles makes it easier to ride. It's as if you don't feel them, they're not annoying !Then for the style, a guy with "correct size poles" on a rail is fucking bad looking. And it breaks less often.. Well I bent my new ones within 3 days..

i started using short poles for competition mogul skiing - shorter poles stopped me dropping my upper body backwards

long poles fly out soo far when spinning and it looks retarded and somone can get their head choped off from that

yea, but i do it mostly because long poles look retarded, and suck to land on, and who the hell makes turns in the park (other then carving off the lip)? and they dont bend as esily

you are all retarded.
who ever said that short poles are better for actually skiing.... you should learn how to actually ski
short poles are for park, they are steezy and when landing switch they dont hit the ground and shoot out, when you are spinning they dont go everywhere, they dont get caught up in everything, you can see why ppl would want short poles.

long poles are for pole planting when you are actually skiing. when you are skating its better to use long poles... if you dont know why, kill yourself.

uh oh. REAL SKIING ON REAL MOUNTAINS WITH REAL SNOW? i use shorter than normal poles but I still use them to plant while turning. oh noez.

one day i want to cut a pair of shit poles so that they are only like 5 inches long. wear like a thuggie. murdered out goggles. and do hand signal after every jump.

haha that always happens to me because i have long poles. after getting a pole up my ass while landing switch yesterday im going to cut my poles ASAP

fuck it, might as well just use handles only. i was going to do that on gaper day. or cut the shaft out completely and just attach the tips to the handle.

Rode w my powder day poles the other day came off a box ALL fucked up the pole handle caught me in the throat. If theyd been short I could have saved myself the trouble

It is so much eaasier to be a stylish skier with short poles then is it with long poles. Don't have all that extra shaft sticking out when you are on rail, plus long poles always get caught up for me when I do jumps.

I use 'em for little feelers, and if I land to one side I can jab the pole in to make sure I don't crash, instead of using my hand.

I know a kid who had longer poles, tried a pole flip on a down box, fell, his pole stuck in the ground and his sternum went right into the grip, and he had to be heli-lifted off the Blackcomb glacier. That's why I use short poles.
