Exactly. I ride with shorter poles. Why? I'm really tall, and having short poles helps me stay a lot closer to the ground, improving my balance, and control.
What's the point of really short poles? They don't help your skiing, they hinder grabs, and they just seem cumbersome in the air. If you're not gonna use poles for your technique, why not just go no-poles?
When i ski with poles (sometimes) i use my salomon's tht are cut down short enought that my arms are almost fully extended because for basically two reasons: 1 to assist with moving around in the flats, and 2 when in the lift line where i ski its not completely flat and sometimes i find myself slidding backwards or forwards and can't stop myself cause the lines are so packed in and i dont have room to spread my skiis to stop myself
good god man, you nailed it! i'm 6'2'' and use short poles, never really had a good explanation, i just like em more. but that's exactally it... keeps you closer to the ground...
they actually help with grabs and in the air cause u dont have to worry about two poles 1/2 as tall as u flying throught the air, so they give you better balance and you can do hand drags easier
i like really light poles and they are usually sort of shorter. you dont even feel them but it still helps your balance a bit. plus you can still pole some if you have to and not just skate.
i rock it either way, it helps grabs too, and sunday river is lapable, the powder minimal so who cares. plus i suck anyways so anything that helps grabs i'll take
my poles are rediculously short.. i can barely push wit them... i love ahving them that short. if you are going to concern your self with my poles business, dont even bother.
i think its all good, i mean im getting some for next year just for the park because u dont really need poles in the park that much, and i wont bend or brake them if i fall on them, its a win win situation! looks steezy to
